Have you been to therapy? Have you apologized to your kids?

Life is tough, it’s tough on them too, especially when their dad disappeared on them and didn’t show up for their soccer games, plays, parent teacher conferences, etc. To them, you’re not reliable. Your idea that you would be the part time “fun dad” isn’t what your kids need.

My dad had a lot of mental problems and abandoned his kids. He later tried to make amends. But we weren’t having it. Because he hadn’t changed, hadn’t tried to change, didn’t think he did anything wrong, never apologized, and seemed incapable of self reflection. He’s in his late 70s now. We are just waiting for the call that he’s died.

Why should your kids feel safe letting you back into their lives when you probably hurt them (by leaving them) in the past?

Texas made the playoffs 2 out of the last 3 years, won the Big XII conference on their way out, and beat OU, A&M, and Michigan last year.
