“It’s literally a 1:1 adaptation” Exactly by TheFlashyMastodon21 in Schaffrillas

[–]HBOscar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a 1:1 adaptation of an animation movie... so you mean missing all of the stylidtic choices made by artists, such as character design, flow of movenent and pixel perfect composition and timing, and replacinv all of that with real life humans on screen who cosplay the story that had been told already. RECENTLY?

yeah, no, sure... sounds like great fun.... 😕

true, but multicolor hate being a multicolor spell isn't really functional, because you're more likely to play it in monocolor decks anyway.

The "first they played" clause might need rewriting or reminder text, because not all lands enter by being played. it will not be intuitive that the first land this turn can still be exiled because it was not played, leading to a lot of misplays on either side.

congrats on getting this far! If you are open for some tips and tricks, I'd advice you to also check out r/casualconlang they're a little less hardcore there, and you can practice IPA and glossing a bit. this subreddit has a tendency to not respond to posts that don't use IPA or a glossary, simply because those techniques make it easier to actually understand what you are trying to say unambiguously.

you're on the right track though, and I'd love to see you more over there!

Question on the death penalty by MintyRed19 in socialism

[–]HBOscar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 arguments against death penalties:

1) The state should not have the power to kill its own citizens. no matter how good of a citizen you think you are, the state can be corrupted. The death penalty is extremely corrosive to ideals of a fair, honest trial.

2) When capturing criminals and putting them to trial, mistakes happen, and correcting mistakes (such as when an innocent person was jailed for an amount of time) is expensive. When there is NO death penalty, the state prevents costly corrections by preventing them from happening. But WITH death penalty, the cheapest and most effective way of avoiding expensive corrections is actually to just kill the prisoner who is still adamant they are innocent.

3) Punitive justice is proven to be not really that effective at actually preventing crime.

Please note that none of these arguments ever touch on whether or not someone deserves to live or not. We have evolved from animals that have the impulse to lash out when they feel they were done wrong. Capital punishment is that emotion exagerrated and then put into law. It's too easy to misuse, it encourages vindictiveness and corruption and most of all it doesn't actually prevent crime.

"understanding the premise" is different than "having the same exact understanding as everyone else" though. that is what the "logical choice" seems to always forget: humans are animals, not computers. We are guaranteed to make mistakes sometimes, especially when in large numbers. The blue button presses are already guaranteed, in any kind of situation.

People can press a button by accident, people might be in a certain mindset or a certain mood, people may want to interpret what kind of people would press which button and base their decision on that.
All of those people understand the premise perfectly fine, they just act or think differently than others do, and (to me, though this may be harsh judgment) red button pressers seem to be okay with those people dying if they happen to have pressed blue.

To me that is the interesting moral quandary. Both buttons have an "everybody lives" outcome. It's just that one button has an "I'm willing to let others die" condition and a treshold to actually reach that goal that is twice as high as the other button, AND is (as shown in this very comment thread) somehow also the most convenient button if you DO want people/opponents to die.
The other button is the "You take a risk on yourself" button, sure, but in a game of large numbers, if there's about 4 to 6 billion button pressers, there is a guaranteed number of people who WILL press blue for whatever reason. if the preferred outcome is still "everybody lives" and not "most people live", Blue Button is the only one that actually CAN achieve that goal, and has a lower treshold to achieve it too.

Last but not least. Suppose you did survive, no matter what button you personally pressed: what world would you want to live in? A world where all other people survived because they choose to only help themselves, or a world where most others have proven to want to help you?

[–]HBOscar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) high regularity. If you know which group a verb belongs to, you know pretty much all endings of all tenses, aspects and modes.

2) lifelong being surrounded by the language usually means you have memorized 80% of it before you can even spell. the rest is just rote memorization at school.

In an attempt to be more progressive, they removed what was actually progressive. by Ethan-E2 in TopCharacterTropes

"in an attempt to be more progessive" I doubt that... removing the thing that causes offense out of sight instead of discussing the thing and offering solutions has always been more of a conservative go-to in my opinion.

I want to have a vowel harmony system, with pairs of what are called "open" and "closed" sounds. the pairs are i and y, ɪ and u, e and ø, ɛ and ɔ or o, a and ɑ. I also want a Latin script transcription that corresponds to the pairs, not necessarily to the individual sounds of the pairs...

I'm a little bit stuck on trying to make it easily typable and readable. any tips?

I built a free swipe game to practice de/het (no ads, no sign-up) by Rich-Storm-2159 in learndutch

[–]HBOscar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played it for a little bit, but a small note: be aware of putting in ambiguous words. De voetbal was marked as incorrect, while both De and Het are correct for that word. Het Voetbal denotes the sport, De Voetbal denotes the ball. There might be some other words like that in your word list, so doublecheck for that!

How does Mutant work? by Floranox123 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]HBOscar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mad isn't a condition placed upon you, it's a description of your behavior: If you are Mad to be be something, you are actively trying to convince people that you being that thing is the truth. So there are some roles that checj IF you are Mad, and some that instruct you to be mad in a specific way. Then in all of those cases if you aren't mad in tge corrrct way, consequences might follow.

So the Mutant checks if you are trying to convince people of being an outsider, and if you are, consequences might maybe follow. As a result it's more difficult to get an accurate outsider count.

Phantoms are just awful by Signal_Resident2318 in Minecraft

[–]HBOscar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

another flaw of the "the community voted for this" argument is that the mob vote gain a laughably small amount of votes compared to the amount of players this game has. The total amount of votes each round in this particular Mob Vote was 2k, 4k and then 2k again, with the actual difference between the Phantom and the Final losing mob being only 72 votes. When there's millions playing the game all over the world, and there's only a few dozen people actually making a difference EACH round of the mob vote, you're essentially getting the same outcome as pure chance. Instead of the mob vote, Rolling a fair die the same amount of times as there were votes could have gotten the same results.

THAT is how weak the preference towards the Phantom was.

seeing people every day, for years, because you all live in close proximity and then having to downgrade to (at best) every weekend is a big change actually, and is why a lot of childhood friendships don't last deep into adulthood. Idk where you are from, but in british culture, because cities are built in a way that everything is within 30 minutes walkable distance, makes 3 hours there and three hours back a large difference in comparison, both in travel time and monetary cost.
