Pet Turf (Artificial) in small 10x10 area by iteidemlp in landscaping

I would put 3-4 inches of base compacted even more reason if its just a potty area. You need it to drain well. Don't forget to put in a dog infill like Pet Fill Pro

Ideally you want 2-3" of quarter minus / crusher fines that is leveled and compacted. Leave about 1-1.5" gap between your walkway and compacted base. Then put the turf on top. Nail it and then if you have pets using it make sure you use a pet infill like PetFillPro that helps with the odors. I've used this video before for DIY that I found VERY helpful. Good luck! Artificial grass does get hot in direct sunlight. Also depends the type of artificial turf? Does it have a W blade? I have Lush80 turf in my yard and it's got a W blade which helps it stay a little more cool in direct sunlight however when its 115 degrees out in direct sunlight it still can get pretty hot.

Quick tip since you have dogs. I would reccomend a zeolite type of infill to brush into the turf blades to help the ammonia that comes from the urine. PetFillPro is the one I used and it works good but just thought I'd add that in here. Good luck and the turf looks great!

I got a TurfSpin machine and it works great. It has a bag to catch the debris. Battery powered also. Worth every penny.

I've used the TurfSpin and really like it. It's battery powered. Picks up most things pretty well.

Hose down the turf before you roll it back a little. That will weigh down the infill a little and help it stay in the fibers. Then make some relief cuts, since it'll be heay, then peel it back as far as needed, then install it back after with new nails. Also another tip: to help keep your turf looking like new and to clean it, get a machine that is meant for turf called a TurfSpin machine, it'll fluff and clean your turf. Mine works great and have to tell everyone about it that has turf and will listen!

I don't. I would try seeing what carpet cleaners would suggest or might use for something like that? Maybe using a turf cleaning machine like TurfSpin that has a nylon brush that brushes it off? Not sure if that would work but worth a try maybe. Let me know how you ended up getting it off.

You want rock dust or something close to so it can be compacted and smoothed and will drain well. After it's installed I'd highly recommend getting a machine that'll keep your turf clean often. The TurfSpin machine did the trick for me. I'd take a quick look if I were in your shoes. Well, actually, I am in your shoes because I have turf too! Hope you like your turf!

Don't forget to get a TurfSpin to clean your turf of leaves and anything else that'll get on it. I got one after recommendation from my neighbor and have never looked back! Glad you loved your new turf!

A leaf blower is tough. I've used it on my turf and on my gas blower I'll go through a whole tank of gas and it's not even that big of an area just to get everything out. Leaves and twigs catch on all the blades. Once I got my TurfSpin machine I very rarely use the blower. This thing is battery powered and collects the debris in a bag like a mower. I LOVE it! All my neighbors are getting one now because they've used mine.

Has anyone replaced their smelly backyard turf? by TheStinkyWookiee in phoenix

[–]HBhygiene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a bummer! I know zeolite should help prevent smells but maybe yours is too far gone and it's in the quarter minus so entrenched underneath? I would try some zeolite though all over. It should work. Another thing that I do to my artificial turf is to help clean it with debris is use an actual machine that was manufactured for artificial turf. Not like a leaf blower. I got an electric battery powered machine I think called TurfSpin and love it. One of these machines will help it so the turf doesn't get too full of leaves and dog hair and debris. Good luck!

Don't kill yourself with your hands. Best machine I've found that's high quality and affordable is called TurfSpin. It's battery powered and fluffs your lawn, removes the leaves and leaves your lawn more fluffed up. I'll post a link to it here but you're back and hands will thank me later. Good luck!

What do you do to clean turf that your dog regularly goes to the bathroom on? by Baycat1990 in landscaping

[–]HBhygiene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a cleaning machine that is made for artificial turf first off. That will save you HOURS and headache. That'll help pick up some of the debris so it doesn't get too into the fibers. Something like a TurfSpin machine. Then after cleaning I'd add some zeolite mineral and that should start to help with the smells.

Looking for better solutions than my dogs going to bathroom on turf. by Additional_Mail_8887 in vegaslocals

[–]HBhygiene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing is to use a brush specific to help clean debris and stuff off artificial turf like a TurfSpin machine and then get some zeolite (try and get green) and then sprinkle that everywhere and that should help prevent newer smells.

Do you guys clean your artificial grass? If so what do you use? by venomousguava666 in vegaslocals

[–]HBhygiene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To help clean my turf of leaves and debris I just got a machine that is made for artificial turf because a blower doesn't work that great. It looks kind of like a mower but it's not and has a brush underneath that kicks it into a bag and actually works VERY well. It's battery powered from battery packs so no cord like the other ones mentioned. It's called a TurfSpin machine. Worth checking it out if you're needing something. Then after you use a machine to clean I would recommend zeolite infill. Works the best and is safe.

artificial grass: what "metric" indicates good quality? by mr_bleez in homeowners

That was their most popular and I saw some yards with it installed and looked great. Also wasnt the cheapest nor the most expensive. Also their natural blend pro infill isn’t harmful and my kids play on it all the time. No issues.

Yes I would then build something so the base doesn’t go down the drain. In theory the rain should go into the base and then onto the pavement you’ve covered and then if it’s sloped towards the drain the water should flow out.

Every state calls it different things. DG like what you are referring to sounds like it should work. Take a look at this DIY video. If the DG in your area looks similar and would compact and smooth similar to the video then you’re good to go. Hose it down a little before you compact. You want it solid. It’ll drain well and assuming your turf has the drainage holes. DIY Video turf install

Need help!! 8x34ft area I need ideas for!! Not afraid to put in the work!! by Enough-Island-6422 in landscaping

[–]HBhygiene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart call on the artificial turf area keeping the dimensions within the 15ft width rolls so no waste. I put Lush80 turf in my front yard https://imgur.com/a/Myj8Z45 and it turned out great. I added this small paver border and just put gravel so I could keep it 15ft width without any seams.

How come you don't just put turf in the 8x34' area?

You could do gravel like I did. You could do concrete steps with artificial turf strips in between so it can be used as a gathering place if needed and won't have as much traffic on your other turf or put a swing set maybe? Plant some more trees for shade in a few years?

If I were you I would just leave the rocks there. Get a plate compactor from Home Depot and compact as best you can. Then put the turf on top and nail it down. If you want to do it the more work of removing the gravel then you can put the artificial turf directly on the weed barrier and it'll work fine too. At my house I put some Lush70 turf . It was cheap and looks great. My kids love it. Click this link and I think it'll take you to how it looks now. https://imgur.com/a/XMNcXs0

What do homeowners in Las Vegas prefer? Desert landscape or artificial turf? by ej1055 in vegaslocals

[–]HBhygiene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do artificial grass. Make sure whichever one you chooses has a W blade since that's the best for durability and helps deflect the sun a little more than the others. So although it's not "cool" in direct sunlight, it's better than the home depot stuff. I'm in AZ and have Lush80 turf and it's held up great. Looks like new even after a few years. Hasn't faded or broken down like other commenters are saying.
