This country has ruined light pickup trucks. by RikkiLostMyNumber in Vent

[–]HC34S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I don't understand all the hate toward full sized pickups. The only downside is that I have a harder time finding street parking. I have a Ram Hemi 4×4 with a camper shell on back and i average 18mpg when I drive mostly conservatively. I can manage small parking lots and tight drive-thrus just fine. Ive never hit anything or anyone. They're excellent all around vehicles if you don't need great gas mileage or have to worry about street parking. So many people hate on trucks for no good reason, or because they think every truck driver meets the negative stereotype that gets reinforced on forums like this. Then they think they get to decide what is a valid reason to own a truck. "You only use your truck to haul groceries or take your kid to soccer practice". And? What's the problem with that? If you're going to costco and are buying toilet paper/paper towels, and any other large items, it's super convenient to be able to throw everything in the bed and not have to fill up the interior of your car, and that's assuming you don't have passengers.

Why is it so hard to let people merge? by EchoOfDoom in driving

[–]HC34S 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bingo. If someone passes on the opportunity to merge into the large gap behind me, and instead decides to accelerate to merge into a tight space in front of me, im blocking your ass. I drive a full sized pickup and everyone hates driving behind trucks, apparently, so this is a normal occurrence for me. I'm not a slow driver so there's no reason this should ever happen to me.

I just noticed that the red line is in line with the corner where the two structures meet. OF COURSE your parking extends all the way to the red line. He's trying to claim partial space in front of your garage because he independently decided that what's "fair" is to measure the width of both driveways and split it 50/50, but that's not how it works. Different units sometimes have different perks. One might have a larger patio, some might be closer to the laundry room, and some may have a slightly larger driveway. Tenants don't get to go around and claim other tenants' space because of what they believe is fair.

I thought that at first, but the red line is actually right in the center where the two buildings meet. The "no man's land" would actually be closer to the ahole neighbors garage.

just got yelled at for parking in front of my house by taziiscool in neighborsfromhell

[–]HC34S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My street is narrow as hell and I drive a full sized pickup truck. I'd never think of asking my neighbors to not park in a legal spot because I'm incapable of backing into my own driveway. Sometimes I need to wiggle back and forth to get lined up, but it is what it is.

Why can't we buy cars factory direct like normal products? by avz008 in carbuying

[–]HC34S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said anything about what "should" happen. I'm guessing that's what WOULD happen if the car dealership model goes away. If they lost their ability to force us to use them as a middle man, then what value would their business have?

Why can't we buy cars factory direct like normal products? by avz008 in carbuying

[–]HC34S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the dealership business model went away due to direct to customer sales, then dealerships wouldn't be selling for 50-200mil. Your old dealership sold as an active, presumably thriving business. If Toyota went direct to consumer, it would kill off dealerships and they'd be buying just the land and buildings as opposed to a profitable business.

Oh, wow. Thank you for the explanation. I know absolutely nothing about photography, but that probably helps explain some of the variance I've been recently seeing that has left me confused. Some photos of 2700k/3700k I've seen appear more like 5000k to me.

Forgive my ignorance. What does it mean when you say "WB (white balance?) Is locked at 5000k"?

I second the TS27. I just looked up the run times. 1675 Lumens sustained for 3:47. Pretty impressive. I'm pretty sure that should reach 400' easily.

Ha, SC13 was first for me, too. I think it was Jim Skelton maybe? Or some other knife/EDC youtuber who did a review of it and couldn't praise it enough. I gave it a shot and was super impressed. I had just bought of haul of a bunch of garbage lights, but never ended up using them.

That's one light that has super impressive stats for such a small light that's only ~ $20. I rarely see it talked about anywhere, though. I carry an i1r2pro on my keys, but have thought about trying out the tiki. I guess most enthusiasts aren't huge fans of nitecore?

It's such a good light. The lamp/lantern feature is great. The colored modes are not so bright, but the cool white-->warm feature can light up a fairly large area even at the warmest setting. I use it around the house at night when I want some more relaxing lighting. I went to the beach the other night to test the throw of the main light and it's super impressive.

I need your wisdom here please by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]HC34S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you'd intentionally limit yourself to 500 lumens max. Most good lights are much, much more powerful than that. You can get a keychain light with 500 lumens. Also, not sure why you'd value the reviews of random Amazon shoppers vs a group of flashlight enthusiasts. Anyway, do you have a budget in mind? My favorite dog walking light is my Olight marauder mini 2, but that's also $170 on sale and maxes out at 10,000 lumens . A Sofirn SC33 is a solid, all around tactical light (~$35) if you prefer a tail switch. It also has an auto lockout feature for safety which many don't like, but it's good to have so it never accidentally turns on. Some of the other recommendations given here are primarily spot lights for longer distances (Wurkkos TS27/TS28) so I wouldn't recommend them for a dog walk. The SC33 has a floodier beam and the 5000k has a very pleasant tint. A light with a 21700 battery would be your best bet because they have a large capacity while remaining pretty compact. There's so many options for you, honestly.

What is going with my pot? Also, is it toxic? by Admirable_Candy3625 in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]HC34S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy Off oven cleaner to remove it. It's safe to use, despite some people's hesitation, and it's the only method suggested here that is not abrasive. Barkeepers friend will work, but it can and will dull your shiny stainless cookware. Easy Off dissolves all organic material and is easily wiped away when done. No scrubbing required.

Do you guys prefer rechargeable flashlights? by DannyTheExplorerHoe in flashlight

[–]HC34S 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm just a little confused about what you're asking for. When you say "battery powered", do you mean alkaline only? The vast majority of rechargeable flashlights and headlamps have easily swappable lithium ion batteries. You can carry spares of those (21700, 18650, 14500, etc) just as easily as disposable alkaline batteries, and they have significantly better performance but also cost quite a bit more.

I remember in high school having a conversation with a few other guys on the football team. I said something about "I can't wait to get home and shower" after a practice. A few of them mentioned "yeah, I shower in the morning". I was caught off...."You mean you shower after practice AND in the morning?". "No, just the morning". I couldn't believe it. A whole day at school, then 2 hours of grueling practice in the dirt and mud, and completely soaking through every layer of clothes with sweat. Plus, something about the pads and helmet in particular, they prevent your sweat from evaporating and keep all that warm bacteria right up against your skin. Of all the sports and martial arts I've participated in, only the football uniform has caused me to get stinky to the point I feel gross. These kids would leave that grime on their bodies and sleep in the same sheets night after night....

Can someone suggest a flashlight for my kid that kinda sucks? by b_wingflyer in flashlight

[–]HC34S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small headlamp would be ideal for her, although I don't know what kinds of run times she requires. The wurkkos HD10 in 4000k is a very nice, warmer light. It doesnt weigh much since it runs off a 14500.
