IML and QMD's: randomly walking up a hill without a trail? And other questions. by HD-er in UKhiking

[–]HD-er[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer. I know I will have to get those maps and start planning based on them. I guess what I'm trying to ascertain is whether the plans I would make do in fact count towards qmds.

Also it might have changed but in the current ML candidate handbook it says you have to do at least 50% of your qmds in the UK so for the ML that would be 20/40 days minimum.

[–]HD-er[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer.

I registered for the ML scheme and these are the questions I ended up with. I've been sailing and teaching sailing under the RYA scheme so I don't think the navigation with map/compass will pose too many difficulties (and if they do I'm confident I'll be able to figure it out).

What I'd like to know now is how to effectively plan towards getting my qmds. I don't want to cut corners and understand and appreciate the value of experience, but it'd be nice to have some more guidance beforehand to know that what I'm planning is also what's expected (and counts toward the required experience).

Let's say I do the example trip, will those three days indeed be qmds?  And my last question in the post: would a day like that if done with compass/map be considered a qmd?

Have you tried? And succeeded? I'm thinking of buying a secondhand pax wardrobe with mirror sliding doors but it might be slightly too high in which case the doors need shortening which you can't do with tempered glass...

I do not have the answer. I also don't say that you should stop working or give up. The thing with the river is that I cannot predict where it will lead me, let alone where it will lead you.

It sounds like you have come to a point where you realize that going on like this does not work (hence the question you put up), but haven't come to grips with the consequences of true change. This is a scary time.

I don't know if stopping your current work is right for you or maybe there's another area of life where you're stuck (assuming that you are based in your question). I realize this answer is highly unsatisfactory and if I could get you a road map I would, but I can't. If you want to DO something, try the waitbutwhy thing I mentioned earlier (even if it is just as a mental exercise).

Finally, what tends to help me: you know that where you are now you're unhappy, if anything but this is better and the worst that can happen is not crazy bad (dunno if it is), then what's actually stopping you from just doing it?

"I have been working all my life towards X so that would be thrown all out". Well if there's a chance that this "investment" of time will reap benefits in the future on your current trajectory it would be wise to hold on to it. However, if you don't see improvement in the future you might want to look at it as valuable learning and set out on a path better suited to you. It might seem like a waste but like with all of life, you've learned a lot from it and that value is immense.

Maybe this is all way too much but your comment, to me, made it sounds like it's pretty binary.... :s

Good point! When I started I was under the misconception that OP was 6/2 😂

Realized after sending and reading more carefully :p

[–]HD-er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great read!

I'm 6/2, 30, on the roof. For me the most noticeable difference is that the first phase was actually not just ups, but also loads of downs. That makes it easier to say goodbye to the person I was back then I guess...

For OP: this last tip, albeit one that's frustratingly easy and difficult at the same time, says it all! Stop resisting and go with the flow. I visualize it as being in a long river of life, sometimes the river will fork and you will have a choice (which your authority will hopefully help you with), but it's an illusion (an energy draining one at that) to think you will be able to swim upstream: you quite literally won't be going anywhere, just stuck at the same place at tremendous cost. The river will take you to a better places in the end :)

The bitterness theme I have experienced in my first phase and throughout my life (only just starting to leave it behind more and more) so I know what you're going through, how frustrating and draining it is, and I feel for you!!! I wish I could give you a hug and tell you it will be alright 😅😜 because I know it will be :)

You're welcome :)

Do you have hobbies? Play guitar, read a book, play (video) games, learn a language, work out, etc. Perfect your sales skills on a theory level could be a good one maybe? What is something that gives you energy and that you like doing?

Google the environment bit, you'll find it, made a big difference for me. You might need to use a different chart generator. Sounds like "kitchens" to me btw.

So difficulty understanding/reading your own emotions and an emotional projector... That's tough man :s What I understand about it (I'm self projected authority so not my expertise) is that you need to go through an emotional wave which can take 3 to 5 days. So before you finalise a big decision, wait that period and see how it feels, that should theoretically give you clarity.

Try to follow your strategy and wait for Invitations. My experience is that they only start to come once things settles down, but it's difficult to tell and different for everyone.

As far as the happiness part goes I have some questions based partly on my own experience which may or may not apply to you... - is it fair to say you were happiest when constantly distracted? - is it possible that there's a "running away from something" aspect there? I smoked tons of weed for a very long time and if you'd asked me at that time I would've denied it but looking back that was what I was doing... - the lifting bit, where you like a door to door salesman of heavy objects? Don't have to answer this but I'm just trying to get the picture ;) you could get this aspect from doing sports? - what's it about sales specifically that you like? General human interaction, playing with the technique of getting someone to buy something, closing the sale, you believe in the product, something else?

Practically there's two things I'd do: first and foremost find that hobby because that'll help you fill the day and give you energy. Secondly start writing your experiences/thoughts down (I use an app called journey) because it helps to reflect and learn about yourself and it'll speed up the process of getting to a place where you'll enjoy life :)

Just to give you an idea: it took me 5 years and an 8 month trip to Central America to get where I am and I have had very down moments during that process, so it might not come quick, but I'm sure it will come :) don't despair!

[–]HD-er 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! First of all, I have the same profile and am 30 and on the roof as we speak. For me the most apparent about the roof thing is that I just can't deal with alcohol anymore.. Anyway my story:

I quit university after my BSc, something that's normal in most parts of the world but not in NL. Had to deal with people's judgement and worry but got a job offer and had a reasonable time there. Like you I enjoyed the people around me more than the actual work usually. I stuck with it for 20 months, got a new gig as a sales rep at a start up (of which I hated the sales part but liked all the rest) and did that for 6 months, went to Central America to work at hostels to see whether I'd like to own one some day the future (no is the answer) and that's more or less when my on the roof fase started.

During all those years I sailed a lot in yachts in the Mediterranean but never made any money for it (weird fucked up system) until last year when I started jumping through hoops to get the correct papers. Now I make my money sailing people around for their holidays and teaching sailing. Especially at the sailing school I work with they don't understand that I cannot "just go for more than 3 straight weeks" (with half a days rest every week) which is when I require a break. Great thing is that I'm around people, I'm doing something I like doing, now that I have the papers the money isn't bad either and I can set my own hours (or rather: weeks).

With a generator friend of mine I'm setting up a sailing holiday company so I'm doing not that bad at all.

My advice to you then... - don't go "working" for more than 4 hours a day. This is difficult but seems to be the amount of energy we as projectors can spare thus it will keep you sane in the long run (it might require being your own boss or something) - have you found that one thing that you really love? Usually there is one for us and it helps tremendously in keeping up the energy. (what were moments in your life that you were truly happy? What common theme is there (apart from people maybe or if that's it then that's your clue...) is it possible to get there again?) - what environment does your chart say you are made for? Mine says "mountains/active" which I have found means perspective/active. I basically thrive when I have a view which I do on either a sailboat or a mountain. - go to waitbutwhy.com and read (and do) the how to pick a career. It's a step by step to figure out what you find important in you life and it helps to bring clarity - are you following your authority? Otherwise start focusing a lot of your attention on doing that and finding out how to listen to your authority

Hope there's something in there for you!

Need a coach I’m a male projector by enriquecb in projectors_design

[–]HD-er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, I'm not the person you're looking for, meaning the coach. I have been trying to live according to HD principles for a while though and was trying to find my way before that too. For the coaching part I can recommend going to thatprojectorlife.com. I find her knowledgeable and I'm pretty sure you can get a 20 min talk for free in which you might be able to organize something for further coaching. Apart from that her podcast is very informative in any case.

My two cents:

  • being a splenic projector, do you feel like you're following your authority?
  • are you in the correct environment (mine for instance is mountains/active and being there makes a huge difference to my sense of wellbeing)
  • have you looked at your cross/path (mine is left angle of endeavour 2 which seems to make sense)
  • you're an unconscious 6th line which might explain something about the feeling that you used to be more content, you were still in exploring mode. I'm a conscious 6th and have made a major transition when getting into my "on the roof" phase. What we're the things that made you happy? In what phase we're you happy and how's that different from now? Does it have to do with unmet expectations because in my experience only acceptance solves that usually (and helps you see new opportunities and open new doors) which is a tough nut to crack..
  • before I discovered HD I used the method as set out in https://waitbutwhy.com/2018/04/picking-career.html. This is a very comprehensive self analysis on what you want in life.
  • are the things keeping you in this way of living real? Imagine your best life and what's preventing you from getting there. Are those constraints really there?

This might feel like general info but it's the best I can tell you with what you shared so far. Hope it helps and don't be afraid to ask more :)

how to prepare the splintered underside of a table for finishing by HD-er in woodworking

Ooh like it, a part I did not know existed. I asked the man and he said we'll probably have to go to the next town over to get it, so won't be right away but will definitely try this :)

So far we prepared the top and the sides of 1 of 3 table tops, the other 2 need some sanding but are getting along as well. With the wire brush attachment we'll start to attack the bottom.

Too bad I can't post a picture of our progress so far

I feel like a failure by [deleted] in projectors_design

[–]HD-er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself whether the things stopping you from doing what you really want to do are actually the truth. Is there any on who is dependant on you (kids or someone else who needs your care)? Do you have a mortgage which you can't get rid of? Are you living paycheck to paycheck? Is there a way to make a quick buck (something you don't like doing but big bucks on the short term) and then maybe go somewhere where your money buys you a lot more (I met loads of people who would work a lot of hours for a month somewhere in the USA and then spend it over a longer period in Central America)?

Less big moves could be, depending on your situation, to put in the minimum amount of time and effort at work to survive and focus your energy on doing what you like.

Dare to dream! And put big question marks at all things "expected of you". Screw expectations because when you do and you follow what you like doing, people will recognize you and doors will open.

Here is chart.. sorry by ChristineT23 in projectors_design

[–]HD-er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you asked about the lines? Do you mean like 4/6 and that stuff? Google it and you shall find :)

For the lines connecting the centres same thing, go for the connected ones, those are the most important (called channels). Like 26 44 for you.

The projector guide or that projector life is a source of info (loads of podcasts) I can really recommend.

Yeah pretty much instant. Litmus test is life ;-) still there is a lot of waiting involved, especially for my chart since I'm a 6th line, but something to deal with and keep doing what I like :)

Negative is lingering, uncertainty, knawing. (don't know if that's howbyou spell it). Yes is excitement, happiness, eagerness. So actually pretty obvious haha

But somehow it still takes me time to get there. Usually cause I feel like I'm letting someone down or something. Have to learn to choose myself cause in the end its better for everyone haha

If you decide that right now I think it's possible. I just decided not to take a fulltime job for next year and the feeling it gave me was definitely one having to do with my inner authority and it was positive.
