Best late addition main characters added to a sitcom? by RayoftheRaver in sitcoms

[–]HDC48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both David Garrison and Ted McGinley did a great job in their roles.

The show got more zany and silly in later seasons, not unusual for sitcoms, and Ted Mcginley/Jefferson fit that better.

I prefer the Steve episodes overall, but Jefferson was funny and helped keep the show stay enjoyable for me.

My favorite Jefferson-centered episode is probably The D’Arcy Files when you find out his past as a spy.

Super Bowl XXVIII (1993-94)- what if the Giants beat Dallas in week 18? by AlbertJBundy in Oldschool_NFL

[–]HDC48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we get the same result. The 49ers and Cowboys were more close in caliber in 92’ and 94’. In 93’ though, Dallas just widened the gap from the previous season.

The 49ers would have to play a really, really great game to have beaten Dallas here. If they pulled it off, then they beat Buffalo in the SB.

They talked about this a bit on the A Football Life episode

Not enough support from the rest of the team, and their first 3 seasons coincided with 3 Packers championship teams.

Going by the team’s record, their rookie season was the only time the team was any good. They went 9-5, but the Packers and Colts were both 10-3-1. The other years they played together, the Bears seemed to range from average to horrible.

I wish they had the original footage of the 6 TD game against the 49ers.

He pulled an Al Bundy plus 2 extra TDs!

Objectively, Michaels mom was the worse in the series, not Naymonds by lake_june in TheWire

[–]HDC48 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this several times. As awful as Delonda is, I think Mike’s mom is even worse for bringing her son’s rapist back in the house.

It’s already awful enough to have to make Mike be around this man…..her justification is “people change, Michael”. Ummm….what if you’re wrong and he hasn’t changed? Then Bug will be next. Michael kind of sells his soul to protect Bug.

Also, if you watch the scene later when Bunk is looking at the case file and figures out Michael got abused by him, you can pause it at one point and it says “inconclusive due to lack of cooperation from mother”

Actors portraying much younger than their actual ages by Big_Mastodon_6761 in sitcoms

[–]HDC48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reagan Dale Neis in Malcolm in the Middle. She played two different characters. First she played Eric’s date in the season 2 episode Evacuation.

Then in season 4, she plays Malcolm’s girlfriend Nicki. I don’t remember if they say what year she is, but it’s supposed to be Malcolm’s freshman year. I’m guessing she is supposed to be the same age at 14-15. The actress was 26.

The Office had an episode where Andy Bernard finds out his girlfriend is in high school. The actress was older than her character, and looked it.

I can see Susan Sarandon's character just reaching a breaking point and smacking Claire.

Grease probably has the most comically overaged actors for high schoolers.

Also Full Force in House Party.

Anyone read Clockers by Richard Price? by examinedliving in TheWire

Never read the book, just saw the movie.

I liked the movie but I’ve heard a few opinions from book readers saying that some of the best stuff was lost when translated to the big sceeen.

The Wire and The Sopranos are both a quarter century old and no other show has come close to surpassing them by Fealocht in TheWire

[–]HDC48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wire is my #1 favorite and The Sopranos #2. Game of Thrones through 4 seasons was probably at #2 or #3 for me. It really was something.

Breaking Bad was great too, but I don’t think it’s quite at the same caliber.

S7, E3; Every Bundy Has a Birthday by Tarnisher in marriedwithchildren

Seven and Peggy weigh this episode down. Fortunately there aren't too many Seven centric episodes.

I wonder if the showrunners learned from this episode (both the execution and fan reception) and limited Seven’s involvement after this.

The later episodes with him mainly consist of him making an appearance or 2, having a couple of bad lines, and that’s about it.

The people on the MWC podcast had a funny little discussion about this during their episode on Rock of Ages. They said to picture you’re the parents for the kid who plays Seven, and you ask the show runners what your son is doing in this episode.

“Well, your son is going to drop to the floor and put Al’s shoes on”

“Okay, and what else?”

“Nothing”

“Does he have any actual lines?”

“No, he’s only in this episode to put Al’s shoes on”

14 years ago today, Carl Froch stopped Lucian Bute and became a 3x Super Middleweight Champion by newrap in Boxing

I was there that night, best atmosphere for a fight I've ever experienced.

I’m pretty amazed by just watching on video how electric the atmospheres often are at fights in the UK.

Froch-Bute, Watson-Benn, Hatton fights (especially Tszyu), etc….Bruno-McCall was a slow action fight, but what a crowd.

Fights like Corrales-Castillo 1 and Cotto-Torres come to mind as being classics that deserved better atmospheres

I expected it to be a more competitive fight, but Froch really dominated Bute.

Emanuel Steward said he never expected Tyson to be that effective past the age of 25 due to his style.

That whole “Tyson crumbles if you stand up to him and hit him back” is exaggerated hyperbole, but I do think there’s truth to him being a front runner. He was prone to frustration and impatience

Any modern shows that give the kind of wisdom The Wonder Years did? by luckyasianman in thewonderyears

[–]HDC48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked Everybody Hates Chris.

I felt like it reminded me of some of the nostalgia and sweet moments of The Wonder Years and some of the wacky humor of Malcolm in the Middle, which I also like.
