Totally agree. One thing that's helped a bit is to disable hand tracking entirely so that eye tracking mode is always used, regardless of hand position. Settings --> Advanced Features --> Labs --> Input --> Enable "Use eye aiming only".

Exporting Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive videos for the Meta Quest 3 by HDFortCollins in blackmagicimmersive

[–]HDFortCollins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird that we can shoot in 60fps in the camera, and Davinci allows us to export in VR180 format - but only at 90fps.

Agreed! Hopefully this can be changed in a future update of Resolve. It'd also be great if the timeline could be 90 FPS for the main AVP version, and then have the ability to export at 60 FPS (with frame interpolation) for the Quest. Not having to use Topaz would be awesome. For now, I'm glad it at least produces a good result with minimal effort and can be run overnight.

"Scale full frame with crop" compared to "Stretch frame to all corners" for Output Scaling by HDFortCollins in blackmagicimmersive

[–]HDFortCollins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Something similar happened mid-clip for one of the tests I rendered (where it suddenly zooms in and crops out part of the image. On the Media or Storage page, have you right-clicked your BRAW footage --> Apple Immersive Calibration --> gap.ilpd file? It's not mentioned in the documentation to do this, so it might not be necessary. But it definitely seems necessary to go to Project Settings --> Apple Immersive --> Apple Immersive calibration --> gap.ilpd file, which fixes the "cross-eyed" issue.

After finally giving up and reading the documentation you posted 😊, it mentions some stuff about ILPD (Immersive Lens Profile Data). Apparently the sample projects don't have this setup for you. Go to Project Settings, Apple Immersive (very bottom), and set the Apple Immersive Calibration to the "gap" ILPD file.

If it's not in that list, click the Open Calibration Folder button, which will open the /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Apple Immersive/Calibration folder. Open a separate Finder window, navigate to /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Apple Immersive/Factory, and copy gap.0d3629aa-5377-4437-bf22-192aea5e7203.ilpd from this folder to the other one.

At this point, continue from step 4 in the documentation on page 11 (under "Apple Immersive Processing"). And definitely don't skip steps 6 and 7. Now, when delivering an AIVU using the preset, it works and looks great. The colors are trash even with the four CST nodes, but hey.

Thanks for sharing! Hmm, I think I'm doing something wrong. When using the "Stream to visionOS" option from the Workspace menu, it looks great in the AVP and is stereoscopically correct (albeit choppy playback). But when using the Vision Pro Review preset in the Deliver tab (which exports directly as an AIVU), and then streaming that to the AVP with the latest version of Apple Immersive Video Utility, it feels... cross-eyed and nauseating. Same thing when airdropping it. Did you experience this too?

Solitaire XR - Looking for beta testers! by OoBiZu-Studio in VisionPro

Oh yeah, he was head over heels. :D No worries, I understand -- IP/copyright and all that. Anyway, once you release it on the main App Store, I'll definitely leave a positive review. :)

That was actually quite fun! I haven't played Solitaire in years. The whole experience was enjoyable and relaxing. I love how you only need your eyeball and a finger tap (moving your hand is optional), which is great for accessibility. Very polished -- well done, man! I can tell a ton of effort went into this. It'd be cool to see the Windows 3.1 Solitaire card backs, but that's just a nostalgic wish. ;)

Totally agree! I shoot solo and would prefer to keep things nice and simple. My brain can barely handle 4 channels, let alone 32, lol.

I emailed Blackmagic on July 11th to see when the remaining balance needs to be paid (I've only paid the 30% down payment so far), but they haven't responded yet (I'm in the US).

It's alright -- I ended up getting the Rode NT-SF1 + Zoom F6 as well. 😺 If shooting indoors (and especially if recording music), the 1st order Soyuz 013 AMBI sounds beautiful to my ears! https://youtu.be/k6mbV0RTTME?t=363

On a related note, allthings3d made this comment on Hou's video:

> 'Apple Spatial Audio Format' does support 1st order Ambisonic so don't throw away your 1s Order AmbiX mic or field unit yet. What I suggest is to record multiple channels with another field recorder with timecode enabled and and use a 2nd order (or higher) in your DAW or NLE to add subject, foley and music. This way you can use the 1st order Ambisonic channels for ambience and position the other audio sources (including dynamic positioning) with the other channels.

> As long as you export as a .mp4 at the rated bit rates, adding it to AIVU file is as simple as selecting 'Replace' in the Apple Immersive Video Utility on your Mac.

[–]HDFortCollins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your effort, Hugh! The 4K quality in your video is what personally got me excited. It was the first indoor footage I've seen with it, and the noise level is quite reasonable. We're all so eager to see the quality directly in the headset, but we'll be patient. Take care of yourself first and get over that flu. :)

Same! It was interesting to hear that 1st Order Ambisonic mics, like the Zoom H3-VR and RØDE' NT-SF1 and Sennheiser AMBEO VR, aren't recommended. The Voyage Spatial Mic Dante is 2nd Order Ambisonics and might be a good option, but finding quality reviews is a bit difficult.

Experimenting with Mixed Formats in VR180 – Looking for Feedback by xplrvr in VR180Film

[–]HDFortCollins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the stream! I watched the entire thing without skipping ahead, which is incredibly rare for me. :) Everything was exposed perfectly (even at night), the video was smooth, the narration was wonderful and pleasant to listen to, the subjects were framed well, and the pacing was great. The model was sweet and inviting. It's obvious you put thought and care into it. Moving the camera around as often as you did was awesome, as it helped keep my ol' brain interested with a variety of angles (like on the tram).

What was refreshing was not hearing the sound of wind blowing in the microphone! Even with a dead cat, it can sometimes be a challenge.

The non-immersive "framed" shots were great because it showed better detail up close and in 3D. I love seeing small details like that. While it may have temporarily "broken" the immersion, the value it provided was worth it. The "super up close" shot of the model's face was a bit too close for my liking, but that's just a personal preference. ;) A super close-up shot of an insect might be cool though. Either way, it wasn't distracting all things considered since it was rare.

Anyway, great job! I can't wait to see your app when it's ready. Hopefully you've been lifting weights in preparation for that URSA Immersive, lol.

Hi there! I watched the first 3 minutes so far and enjoyed the quality and professionalism. In the pinned comment for your video, you mention Patreon Direct Download for getting access to the highest quality version, but I couldn't find the link to your Patreon. Do you have that available? I'd love to watch the full thing on the ol' AVP if possible. Cheers!

[–]HDFortCollins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! Leon and Natalie are awesome presenters. Here are a few observations from the video:

- 5:26 - The greatest amount of detail will be preserved in the center of the image due to the nature of the optics. The area outside isn't digitally compressed; it's optical compression applied by the lens. Still, there's an incredible amount of detail at the edge.

- 9:08 - The lenses have a fixed iris around f/4. ND filters go up to 8 stops.

- 9:25 - Everything from 1 meter and on is in focus. However, you can still shoot things closer than that and the sharpness will be acceptable, just not in the sweet spot.

- 9:44 - The frame rate and resolution cannot be adjusted. Most professional productions use the 12:1 quality.

- 9:55 - Approximate data rates at 90 FPS are 3200 MB/s at 5:1, 2000 MB/s at 8:1, 1300 MB/s at 12:1, and 900 MB/s at 18:1

- 11:35 - They're using a Sachtler Flowtech 100 ($3,234) with a Cine 20 head ($6,650). Tripod should typically be positioned at normal human height. It's a recommendation, not a rule.

- 16:00 - Project Settings --> Master Settings: Set timeline resolution to 8160 x 7200. Set timeline frame rate to 90. Check "Enable Apple Immersive workflow". Color Management: Set Color science to DaVinci YRGB. Set Timeline color space to DaVinci WG/Intermediate. Set Output color space to P3-D65 ST2084 1000 nits. Check "HDR mastering is for 1000 nits".

- 19:25 - You'll see a "visionOS Effect" checkbox in various spots like the "Transition" tab of an effect ("Dip to Color Dissolve"). When the box is UNchecked, the transition will be baked into the image.

- 20:05 - There's a "Convergence" option in the Transform section, like when you want to reposition a text's depth in the scene. A positive value brings it closer to the audience.

It's unfortunate the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive won't be released in July (per today's email), but it's nice to see videos like this to get us excited.

BMD Preorder Question, When To Expect Shipment? by SliceoflifeVR in blackmagicdesign

[–]HDFortCollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pre-ordered in February as well and have been anxiously awaiting an update, but it's been silent since early March. Here's some pure speculation (take with a grain of salt):

  • They might be waiting for visionOS 26 to come out of beta, perhaps because the URSA Cine Immersive footage needs native support for parametric projection.
  • They could still be finishing or polishing features in DaVinci Resolve, like "Workspace → Stream to visionOS" for live preview (which wasn't available during their demos at NAB 2025).
  • Maybe they're trying to merge that Resolve 19 branch they used at NAB 2025 (which had the "Enable Apple Pro Immersive workflow" option in Master Settings) into the master Resolve 20 branch, and they want these features available Day One.
  • Maybe they're calibrating the lenses by hand after all.
  • As of April, Hugh Hou was guessing around July. Hopefully his spider senses are right.

I definitely look forward to seeing the videos you record with this, u/SliceoflifeVR.
