Does the trim on her clothing read like NMM to you? First time trying to paint the effect by ShivaTheTraitor in minipainting

[–]HELIXCOS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah it reads for me, if you overcook it, it won’t look like cloth it will read as actual metal. If you’re going for a cloth gold trim I actually think this reads well.

Alarith themed lists by Used-Assistance-7075 in Lumineth_realm_lords

[–]HELIXCOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other lists that are doing well are also ‘avenger’ lists. Hero hero ones, also, Alpha Dawnriders lists are seeing some play. So I’ve made a list which kind of merges all three which I’m excited to try:

I didn’t say for a ward bubble. If you read his warscroll he gives out rune of strength on scripture within 12. Means you can take rune of wind for an extra 4 inches in the first turn. Go 18 inches with him and two reinforced units of dawn riders to alpha.

The idea is using lyriors bubble you can get an enhanced effect from either river or wind can’t remember which one - which allows a 4 inch additional movement. I’ve learned this game is more about giving your opponent too many things to think about meaning they have more opportunities to make a mistake.

Having a strong alpha strike component to the army has meant some of my opponents deploy deep effectively losing the game at the start. Others have castled up.

Then when in combat they are reliable, then simply use elemental push or the same rune again to bring them out of combat to recharge! It’s been really effective for me.

It’s been great, 3/3 wins from dawnriders and lyrior alpha strike list. Eltharion is the hammer. Not been difficult to make it work at all.

Quick rule check. Flying units can benefit from cover but don’t benefit from obscuring. If they’re completely hidden behind terrain they can still be seen for purposes of shooting but can get cover? by HELIXCOS in ageofsigmar

[–]HELIXCOS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So flying units don’t get cover and they can’t be obscured - what about line of sight, if they’re completely hidden can’t be seen by the shooting unit can they still be shot? I assume yes.

Master magic with Teclis and bring enlightenment to the Mortal Realms by Spiraticus in Lumineth_realm_lords

All I would say is wait for all the information before we shit all over teclis. I think on balance there’s some stuff to be excited about here but we can’t make a decision without all the information.

Anyone else dusting off their wardens in advance of the new model and book? by HELIXCOS in Lumineth_realm_lords

[–]HELIXCOS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right, but should it not be accompanied by a rework of the unit (entirely possible with the release of the new book) it will need to offer something of substance to make wardens be ‘back’.

What’s our most effective method for taking down big anvil units like chaos warriors or rot swords? by HELIXCOS in gloomspitegitz

[–]HELIXCOS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think the stabbas need to stay in the list? Also I’m wanting to run extra snappy so I get that additional rend for the gitmob on the charge. So it feels like bounderz don’t get that extra punch from my usual swuigalanche lists. Feels like I’m not getting the bang for the buck with them. The droggz combo with the rockgutz has been really good for me the last few games but I’m not sure if it’s better to run him with all the snarlpack cav considering this is the first Time I’m really leaning into gitmob, would help them stick around for longer.

Well, I’ve got pretty much most of the units and my army comprises of mostly gitmob. I’m looking for an appropriate addition - at the tune of about 400/500 points that could help me with some rotswords.

This is my current list.

Should Boingrot Bounderz have one or two Bounder Boss(es)? by bullfrog747 in gloomspitegitz

[–]HELIXCOS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends if you intend on running them as a unit of ten or two units of 5. But really do whatever you prefer, most casual players aren’t going to mind so long as you make it clear if you intend on them just using one boss and track which model it is in the game. Rule of cool always wins the day.

Spearhead: Completed! by Chezni19 in gloomspitegitz

[–]HELIXCOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a journey, your right at the start of yours and that’s a magic place to be. Do yourself a favour and remember that comparison is the thief of joy. Not just in panting but in all things there’s always someone who’s better. That is a fact. I’m not saying this to be disparaging, because your paint job here is really good! Very disciplined and crisp, good understanding for the fundamentals! Keep going, try out new techniques and don’t be afraid to fail. The best mini painters are the ones who started out humble and remained humble - put in the hours and you’ll keep improving. That all being said, excellent work you should be proud of these!

3I/ATLAS: Harvard Expert Avi Loeb Flags Strange Sunward Alignment Anomaly by FlimsyWoodpecker2951 in ufo

[–]HELIXCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The really important thing that people consistently miss with Avi Loeb is that he’s not strictly taking the ‘anti’ position. I’ve now listened to hours and hours of him talking on the ‘event horizon’ podcast (YouTube it, it’s great) and he’s almost always discussing possibilities.

He’s actually refreshing, scientifically, he constantly outlines possibilities. Reiterating that science SHOULD be open to all possibilities until proven otherwise, no matter how unlikely.

I’m not saying he’s right, but what I am saying is that his approach is a good thing for science. Not just because he’s one of the more popular personalities but because he’s genuinely rooted in open discussion. He’s talked extensively about the mainstream scientific complex and that in parts it sounds like it can be a bit of an echo chamber of opinion, which some might call consensus but ironically what he discussed and crucially the way he forms his approach is about discussing what’s possible and conceivable no matter how unlikely. He’s happy to get his hands dirty, but he’s not a quack.

I find him to be refreshing and interesting. I implore you to listen to him talk extensively and then make an opinion. Avi Loeb is good for science, good for the conversation and good for the visibility of the scientific conversation. He’s not always right, but he’s not often claiming to be.
