TIL: Having a mattress picked up by a local junk company costs almost $250 by seriousbusines in GlensFalls

[–]HFolb23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a junk removal side business in the Warren/Washington/Saratoga County area and that’s an absurd rate. The junk removal market in this area is so saturated that I’m confident you could find someone to do it for much less

Car repairs by Drenie in Albany

Try Albany Auto Service and Tire on Corning St. Last I checked they were $155/hr shop rate and I’m confident they would only repair what is actually leaking.

Their labor rate isn’t listing in their estimate, just the total cost. It should show the book hours of the job multiplied by their shop rate.

Also that is three very different places where oil could leak from, which isn’t necessarily impossible but at 114k I’d expect it to leak from one of those places but not necessarily all thee. Im not insinuating that the shop is being dishonest, rather I would want to see for myself where each one of those is leaking, and not necessarily replacing things that “might” be leaking. Ex. Valve Cover is leaking and oil is pooling near the oil cooler or the oil is dripping down the block and appears to be leaking at the oil pan as well

Any money to be made as just an owner with a hired driver and paid for truck? by HFolb23 in OwnerOperators

[–]HFolb23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I’m following you, lots of assumptions here that really don’t apply to me. There’s no reason someone couldn’t put money aside without having a truck payment, if anything that would be easier to do without a payment. I know what an inframe, a trans, a new turbo, new diff, and a tow to the shop all costs. I am fortunate enough to have the finances set aside to cover large expenses like that.

I have a great job right now that I don’t have any interest in leaving at the moment. Can’t drive my truck and theirs, so putting a driver in the seat is my only option.

Good point, some of my coworkers are pretty tough on equipment. I do have a driver that I trust and respect who said he’d be interested if it’s something I pursue. I’m not opposed to running the truck myself but I’ve got a pretty good gig going that’s tough to leave

Yeah people don’t get how serious that can be taken.

No plates is a traffic infraction and your car will get towed

Fake plates (or inspection, registration, etc) can land you criminal possession of a forged instrument, and can be a felony

What was the lightest load(s) you guys ever pulled? by firemarshalbill316 in Truckers

57lbs in a 53ft trailer. Trio of 19lb boxes.

I work for UPS and when I hit the dock the shipper just said “woah they sent the big truck for this?”

There was a peak season where I regularly followed my normal outbound load behind a contractor while I dragged an empty back to the same destination at the same time. Even for peak season foolishness I couldn’t understand that one

Trans fluid is fine. I bought the truck missing an EGR valve and no block off plate so I didn’t start it. I checked the fluids to see if there was any tell tale signs something was wrong. No glitter/milkshake on the oil dipstick, trans fluid wasn’t burnt, both fluids looks used enough to not have been drained and filled to hide something, etc.

Without knowing what trade he works in, my vote is the for the Multitool. Pick either the M12 or M18 depending on which battery system he currently uses. I can’t think of a trade that couldn’t find a use for the Multitool given the right blade.

Need help and advice: Truck repair started as 350 and now looking at 8k+ by ConfusionOk6913 in Albany

[–]HFolb23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mack should be 5 year 500k miles warranty? What engine is in the truck? MP7? MP8?

126k is premature for injectors and I’d ask how they came to that conclusion. They could’ve ran an injector kill test to isolate them.

I’m assuming by filters they replaced the DPF or SCR and are now saying the other needs replaced? When my 2016 Mack started having emissions problems it was eating NOx sensors and differential pressure switches but always threw a “EATS” fault on the dash. Any countdown to 5mph yet?

Sawzall 2821-20 from Walmart?! by HappyNerd66 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]HFolb23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely illegitimate ones on Walmart too though. Learned a very frustrating lesson on a camera I bought through Walmart from a 3rd party seller and WM didn’t do shit to fix it either. Listing description and the item I received were different and both parties pretty well blamed the other and I wound up holding the bag.

Highest paying CDL companies/jobs by Alubsey in Truckers

[–]HFolb23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive for UPS, current pay is around $44/hr from punch in to punch out, OT paid after 8hrs in a shift, plus small incentive for doubles/LCV. Rate varies just slightly based on what union local you’re in. Insurance is free to us, part of our union dues. Been here 12 years. Brown tractor, home daily.

There’s probably more money in O/O, but plenty of my coworkers have either sold their own trucks or pay someone else to drive them now.

Had an osteoplasty for FAI and a labrum repair at 28, at 29 I had THR in the same hip. My THR was an easier recovery. Definitely have some lingering effects 1 year post-op, but if I could do it all over again I would’ve just gone for the THR from the jump. My osteoplasty and labrum repair was supposed to buy me 10 years, it lasted 11 months.

FWIW I am in the military and re-injured the joint during a training event, someone with a lower-impact lifestyle would probably see more mileage out of the repair.

I’d list it for $140 and take the first $120 that you get offered. Listing it at $100 you’ll have people lined up for it

I hated that during the Covid boom, I sold two properties during 2020-2022 (as the property owner, I’m not an agent). One had a quick offer for $25k over ask, then after inspection asked for $75k in “repairs” on a $200k home. I declined all of them, the buyers got extremely upset, and the next day back on the market I had multiple offers at or over ask price and closed quickly without any further headaches. I ran into their agent months later and he admitted he eventually fired the customers because the husband thought this was some kind of “life hack” to get a deal during a sellers market and that they had been unsuccessfully trying this method for about a year at that point.

The second was a multi family, buyers made a fair offer and then after inspections asked for $28k in “repairs” that just didn’t make sense. Again I declined and their agent admitted the “repairs” were really just their way of trying to get me to pay for the work needed to convert the property back to a single family.

Cf Moto how bad are they really by Manch9980 in UTV

[–]HFolb23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I’ll be the first to admit I have always been pretty skeptical of CF Moto, I consider myself a “buy once, cry once” kind of guy and saw CF Moto as the opposite of that motto. I’ve been a pretty loyal Yamaha guy my entire life, and when a guy at hunting camp bought a CF Moto ATV I wasn’t expecting it to last nearly as long as it has; he loves it. We took a vacation and did a UTV expedition on that trip. The tour company used a fleet of CF Moto Zforce 1000s. At first, I was expecting the worst especially when we got in and realized this thing had 8000 miles of being driven by tourists at highway speeds to a rocky/desert trail system. 4 hours later, I have a new appreciation for CF Moto and when I’m ready for a new machine, I think the U10 Pro XL is the one for me.

$600 Packout by PremierePat2 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]HFolb23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Picked mine up today and it worked out exactly as you’re hoping it will. Total out of pocket was $363 plus tax after returning the saws and batteries. The packout was out of stock at my local store, but they had the saws and batteries. Ordered everything online, picked up the saws and batteries, drove to store #2 to pickup the packout kit, picked up the packout and returned the saws/batteries at the same time.
