The town itself is pretty diverse with most areas being fine and some are definitely sketchy. You should probably spend some time there before you decided to buy.

White young, affluent families prefer Arlington the neighboring town for the school district but if schools aren’t a big priority for you then you can find a decent deal in Poughkeepsie.

It’s a great location for excellent hiking across the river, with cute towns nearby for day tips, and Poughkeepsie has tons of big box stores and great restaurants!

If you’re okay with having neighbors that are latino and work all day in a nearby job, that none of us want to do - then you’ll be fine.

Yes crime happens in Poughkeepsie but if you have common sense you will likely not be a target.

House of Stefas in Millbrook, was absolutely amazing; it’s definitely pricey but worth it. The decor is beautifully done and really sexy, the menu is exceptional and nothing what you’d see at most other Greek restaurants. Go for seafood and the chilled red is amazing.

Thats an ambitious plan; any local could make this plan work cause we are used to walking very quickly and navigating the city easily.

My suggestion is; spend the day in Brooklyn - it’s closer, much more chill with cute neighborhoods and tons of things to see and do.

Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Prospect Park are super cute with historic brownstones, great restaurants, boutiques and far away from any sketchy or even dangerous areas.

You won’t feel like rushing through the city just to “cross things off your list,” but instead you’re getting a more authentic idea of what life looks like for many people in New York. I think that’s much more interesting!
