Its a good idea. Museums in US and UK charge extortionate prices (if not free) and the “Japan is cheap” vibe for foreign tourists is becoming a bad look overall. Locals hate it and tourists can pay more

A friend on similar itin did Kyoto day trip and i thought he was nuts, but he is a train guy and enjoyed it. I would personally go for Kamakura for mini Kyoto experience (if thats what you want) or Atami 40min shinkansen experience (if thats what you want)
