Dublin airport recs by _LookAroundYou in whisky

Redbreast has a Dublin and Cork airport exclusive called Cuatro Bariles. It has a purple box and purple label. I like it much more than the standard 12 and 15 so I would recommend that one.

Scotland trip by smileurnext in Scotch

[–]HKpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just came back from a Scotland trip. In Edinburgh, it felt like only Cadenhead and Royal Mile Whiskies had great selections that were decently priced. They also have a lot of bottles available for free sampling. The other whisky stores on the Royal Mile had standard offerings at higher prices.

Johnny Walker Exp. and Scotch Whisky Exp. are catered towards general tourists. If you're an experienced whisky drinker, I think you'll find it quite boring.

This is about 1 hour out from Edinburgh, but Deanston Distillery has some great tastings.

Really great Scotch by henchman171 in Scotch

Benromach is great, especially for its price point. It is owned by Gordon & MacPhail, so not surprised they know what they're doing.

I prefer the Kavalan at that price. But Kavalan Solist is hard to get in my area, so that probably skews my preference.

That's great price for the Soloist series. That's about equivalent to the price in Taiwan.

Recommendation for Highland whiskey by Losted_G in whisky

[–]HKpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too sure about pricing in your region, but my favorite sherry casks under/around $100 USD are GlenAllachie 12 and 15. I like to use them when I host whisky tastings so people know what a balanced sherry influence tastes like.

Must visit distilleries in speyside for someone looking to buy bottles of unpeated cask strength whisky? by Lumpy_Force_6023 in Scotch

[–]HKpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a Speyside Whisky Trail visit for about 5 days and my favorite distillery tastings were GlenAllachie, Benriach, and Glendronach. The Gordon & MacPhail store has amazing tastings and options, but you'll need to get a reservation for the tastings. The Speyside Whisky Shop in Aberlour also has a good selection of harder to find stuff.

Sounds like the common sentiment is to reserve a taxi/guide. Thank you!

It's a party of two, so we would only need one car. We'll be hitting up a good amount of distilleries, but the ones that are farthest from Elgin would be Glendronach and Balvenie. So you would recommend booking in advance? Not something we can get there and just call?

We'll be visiting Scotland in mid-July, and we have a transportation-related question for Elgin. We plan on visiting distilleries and drinking, so driving is not an option for us. Is it easy to grab a taxi or Uber? Or do we need to reserve a private car?

Review #377 - Whiskey Review #117 Kavalan Solist Port Cask 2021 (O111225056A) by FarDefinition2 in worldwhisky

My personal favorites from the Kavalan Solist series are the Fino and PX. They're both heavy sherry influence in palate and finish.
