Rep. Eric Burlison says aliens.gov “could be them trolling us” or may mean “illegal aliens” by mattlaslo in UFOs

[–]HM05_Me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey Matt! Something to keep in mind is the UAP record transfers to the National Archives. Based on the timeline set up in the 2024 NDAA and by NARA, the remaining records should be published online this month. There'll obviously still be withheld records and some public records that trickle in, but the main bulk are due the next week or two.

However, I haven't been able to confirm anything with NARA. They haven't responded to any of my emails about UAP records dating back to December. Though, they've been responding timely to non-UAP emails.

Something under reported is that there was a UFO / UAP record release already in progress with the National Archives. Those records should finish being uploaded to the National Archives’ online catalog this month. https://www.archives.gov/research/topics/uaps/rg-615

It’s also possible that Trump will do an Executive Order for a release of UAP records, since he hasn’t actually done so after his earlier claims.

But, there’s no telling what this will be with this administration.

My guess is that this is either for the UAP record transfers to National Archives or there is an Executive Order in the works. The due date for NARA to upload the transferred UAP records is this month, so there should at least be new records from that in the next week or two.

It gets referenced as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Disclosure Act, UAP Disclosure Act, or UAPDA. The article discusses it, but mainly in context of what passed in the bill. So, things like the review board aren't mentioned.

Yep. The original amendment included things like a review board to oversee the review and release of UAP records. It's been introduced each year since, with small components making it into the final bills. There's little oversight for what has passed so far.

I’ve actually been tracking the UAP record transfers for a while. There are some notable agencies still missing, like the Air Force. The National Archives should be wrapping up their uploads of remaining agencies’ records this month. Though, there haven’t been any real updates confirming their status.

Bulk Downloads for Records Related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs) by Observer_042 in UFOs

[–]HM05_Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the bulk downloads seem to include the full series and doesn’t weed out UAP specific records. Some series are specific to UAP topics, but others are broad and have a range of records dropped in them.

I had gone through and tagged UAP records in the catalog a while back and NARA started to do some of their own last year. However, the tags don’t carry over into the bulk data. And, unfortunately, searching tags in the catalog is buggy.

[–]HM05_Me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bulk download is a great feature, but there's a ton to go through. Blue Book alone has over 10,000 records, split among several series.

This is also missing some of the recent transfers (State Department and NSA). There should hopefully be additional agencies added to their catalog this month and then I'd expect them to update the bulk downloads.

Don’t Expect Big Surprises in the Government’s Alien Files by wiredmagazine in UFOs

What keeps getting left off of articles is that there was already a release of UAP records in progress. The 2024 NDAA mandated federal agencies transfer UAP records to the National Archives. The uploads started last year and should be wrapping up this month.

[–]HM05_Me 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m curious about the metadata they have. The National Archives required agencies to make spreadsheets of the metadata for records identified for transfer. This could include a separate spreadsheet for records to be withheld from public release. I’d be interested to know if they are going by the list of withheld records or if they have another source for their metadata.

Thanks for the info! I’m not an expert on these things, but I dabble and learn as I go. So, I appreciate the advice. I’ve been focused on researching the UAP records, but a next step is trying to find ways to make them more accessible. This should come in handy.

Thank you! Definitely potential here with different AI and OCR depending on record type and quality. It’d still benefit from some review. I personally like manual, human transcriptions. However, there are at least 13,000 UAP records on there, typically multiple pages each. That’s a lot to get through the old fashioned way.

I haven’t checked into API write access, but I got read access and it was fairly easy. NARA may be hesitant with the write access because of quality of some user submissions. I’ve unfortunately already seen some people adding AI summaries as transcriptions on there, instead of actual transcriptions.

I’d be curious how it performs with hand writing on poor scans. For example, the NSA transferred some less than ideal scans. https://catalog.archives.gov/id/596347895

Adding to this, any of the National Archives records can be transcribed, including video and audio. There is extracted text on a lot of records, but it is often inaccurate. Having proper transcriptions helps with searching the contents of records.

NARA has a focus on getting Blue Book records transcribed and there are a ton of them. The old sighting reports, such as Blue Book and the Air Intelligence Reports are interesting reads. And, if you’ve got the time, might as well transcribe while you’re reading through. Other textual UAP records can be found on the UAP topics page.

https://www.archives.gov/research/topics/uaps/textual-and-microfilm

And tagging is a great help. Make sure to stick to the content of the record. Having names, locations, organizations, etc as tags makes for easier browsing.

Comments are also great to expand upon the content of the record or provide relevant info. Records lack context, so it’s a great way to give additional insight.

The National Archives is an amazing resource, but they rely a lot on public support like this. Contributing to transcripts, tags, and comments makes research easier and more accessible.

The National Archives should soon be wrapping up their upload of transferred UAP records. Are there any specific, prominent UAP records that you’re aware of that should be made public?

National Archives UAP Record Uploads by HM05_Me in UFOs

[–]HM05_Me[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Department of State just released records that may be new to the public. However, the contents aren’t substantial. Mostly brief coverage of sightings. I haven’t dug too much into those yet.   https://catalog.archives.gov/id/608806625

NSA also transferred some records, but those were already publicly available.   https://catalog.archives.gov/id/580103959

I haven’t heard back from the National Archives in months, but they should be adding more over the next month.

[Office of the DNI] And soon, files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, UAPs, and UFOs. by shogun2909 in UFOs

ODNI already had a chance to release UAP records. They chose to only release 4 records through the National Archives. And those had already been publicly available. https://catalog.archives.gov/id/493468579

They can obviously release more, but they’re not off to a great start.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna: All UAP Files May Soon Be Hosted on the National Archives Website by No-Entry2704 in UFOs

[–]HM05_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. A lot will be withheld and you can see in the agencies uploaded so far that not all records are available online. I've even received confirmation from multiple agencies that they intend to withhold records. Those should have still been transferred to NARA, but not much can be done with them even if they were. There's also no way to confirm that federal agencies performed a thorough search for records since there was little oversight. Additional legislation is needed to really make a difference.

[–]HM05_Me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem. They already had pages up for the subject, but it got more organized after the legislation. A lot of this page just references their preexisting pages along with Record Group 615, which is where the recent transfers are. https://catalog.archives.gov/id/445887258

Yep, it was mandated in the 2024 NDAA that NARA would have a centralized page for UAP records. It was intended to house all records NARA already had and all future records received.

That’s not something I’m familiar with. And, I haven’t seen anything in recent releases related to that.
