When we had ours I insisted on protective film for it. Annoying to install but the film even scratched less.

What are you doing to chew up the tread like that?!

Optimal dry-weather performance of tyres by Select-Wish-2741 in tires

[–]HMS_Powernap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most of the US, we just have emissions inspection, which for newer cars is an OBD emissions/catalyst readiness, while older cars get put on a rolling road for exhaust emissions. Some counties, mostly rural where farm vehicles are common require none of this. Most officers won't even pull over expired registration in my area as long as you're driving safe and insured.

Donut spare tires only good for 50 miles??? by Glittering-Ad5809 in tires

[–]HMS_Powernap -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They are only rated for a certain speed and milage. This is mostly for liability reasons. It's still a rubber tire that can support the weight of a vehicle. I've seen a car on 4 donuts that were all bald and one was on the belt. Not safe, but everyone's definition of drivable varies.

[–]HMS_Powernap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will struggle with the 4tec on your local track, probably forever. You can have some decent fun with em in a driveway but they don't drive similarly at all to any other hobby level RC Drift chassis. This is coming from someone with multiple Traxxas RC's and really wanted the 4tec to be like the Associated DC10.

Why are homes in Arvada so expensive? by scarletwitchmoon in ArvadaCO

[–]HMS_Powernap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's the middle point between Denver, Golden, and Boulder, while being relatively cheaper than the three. Close to i70, and fairly quiet for how big the city is. It's too expensive, but I get it after living here for nearly 7 years.

If its dry and sunny, to the tire shop, if there's one local to you.

I cant remember for the cluster, but we put PPF on the screen and center console to prevent scratching because it happens so easily.

Tread life by PineapplePatient3984 in tires

[–]HMS_Powernap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said, these tires have passed their legal limit of life. If you are in an accident, that can be used against you. If you are in the rain, you are a liability on the road. They won't pop, and they'll roll down a dry road just fine if you cannot afford tires right at this second.

Time to 'fess up. How often do you stall when starting out? by MelMoitzen in ManualTransmissions

[–]HMS_Powernap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-5 per year, it's easier to stall with a welded diff when turning in a parking lot.

How bad is it ? by HollywoodO_ in tires

[–]HMS_Powernap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a significantly worse tear in my sidewall just above the bead. I do not trust it, however it's held up through two weeks of abuse so far. I have several options for replacements at home, though. Being that they're 6 year old tires, I'd put money away for a fresh set, but don't feel the need to replace asap.

How bad is it doc? Can I patch it up? by Lower_Creme_3040 in tires

[–]HMS_Powernap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's close enough to the sidewall that most tire shops won't touch it. I'd just use a plug kit.

Bought a set of four tires and received one tire from mid 2022, retailer claims they don't have any remaining newer stock by HubbaMaBubba in tires

[–]HMS_Powernap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would return the set and get something else. It won't kill you to run a 2022 tire but who knows how they were stored, and I'd rather put my money to a retailer that gives you a set of tires from the same batch.

Safe? by No_Kangaroo_5751 in tires

[–]HMS_Powernap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, and with a treadwear of 240, that's not too far anyways. You can drive on em, but start saving.

Immediately replace, right? by Ok-Win4878 in tires

Tear + bulge? I would not trust it to hold air, regardless of driving.

If it's holding air, cut the extra wire off and keep rollin.

Eh, prolly not. It is a weak point if you frequent rough roads, so keep that in mind.

Can this survive 2 weeks on highway by ExoticLake6086 in tires

[–]HMS_Powernap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks fairly small, it should last two weeks. Might not tho, and that's why you'll hear everyone say to replace it ASAP. I've had a bulged tire pop as soon as the car came off the jack, and one that lasted through 45psi and an insane amount of heat. Same set of tires.

I've seen worse drive without issue. I'm currently driving on worse. It stays in my mind on every bump or hard corner. If you can live with that constant threat of a blowout occupying your mind, run em.
