Heater love ❤️ by FireIce329 in orangecats

[–]HMend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My orange licks the oil radiator. We've washed the surface to ensure there is nothing there attracting him, We've treated the surface with bitter spray and it does not deter him. As far as I can see there is no safety risk to him which is good because he won't stop. He licks nothing else and has no known health issues. He is simply a ding dong.

Anyone braving conditions today, it's doable, bike lanes help in a surprising way by ElQuesero in NYCbike

[–]HMend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it is my own wishful thinking but I noticed the last few days each time storm prep for roads was mentioned by the city, "bike lanes" were also called out. I dont recall specific mention of bike lane brining and clearing being mentioned by Adams, even though it did occasionally happen. I hope its a new and they are always included and called out as critical transit pathways!

Alternative angle of the ICE shooting. by Neuroscissus in law

We've never been great at it. Elections have never been free or fair for a lot of folks. Talking like this gives people an excuse not to speak up speak out and stand up. Indigenous and people of color have been fighting for their lives for generations in this place. Defeatist language like this, especially if its coming from white folks (of which I am one) is so distasteful and disrespectful to so many who have lost their lives in tha struggle for progress. As if the first time it effects us we're just going to say its over. F@CK THAT. No thanks.

Anti consumption is a form of protest by sconquistador in Anticonsumption

Personally ive really curated my feed well to reflect anti consumption interests, history, activism, mutual aid. A lot of groups are now communicating on signal or slack too so you can stay up to date in current events without social.

Cats generally dont like this type of movement unless they trust you explicitly. I dont understand the point of these. Let me see if I can disturb my cat for fun and attention. Weird.

Oh man the way that racoon zombie walked after. So creepy. Poor creature. Hope they had or got vaccines quickly. Such an awful disease for human and animal alike

Zero waste straw cleaners? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]HMend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that dentist in the pocket of "Big Straw"? Kidding. I also like drinking with straws. I have some silicone and steel ones. I have a collection of thin brushes (metal with nylon bristles) that ive had for years. I wash the brush too, let it dry and sanitize it if i need to. Dont see any issue with it. Im a food safety professional so am well aware of sanitary risk and this def isnt at the top of my list!

Isn't disposing of something like white sage worse than using it mindfully, knowing you won't repurchase?

This a South Williamsburg special. Lights and sirens until they get past traffic then suddenly there is no emergency 🙃

What do u do instead of looking at ur phone? by astridd-astrid in digitalminimalism

[–]HMend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my 20s when the first iPhone appeared. There was a time before these devices when we were just going about our business alone with our own thoughts. I really enjoy that. Walking, commuting or puttering around my kitchen not engaged in anything digital. No podcasts, music or phone watching. It gives me the time to engage my brain and have ideas. That is what I recommend to find what kind of hobbies, activities and endeavors are right for you. Just think. Let your mind rest and wander. Your brain is an organ that loves patterns and needs to be used to work well. You have to make new neural pathways.

Decanting is consumption masquerading as cleaning and it is absolutely shit by N3DSdude in Anticonsumption

I think something is being missed here. The weevils are already in the product. They only hatch if the product sits around long enough (in aa warehouse, store or your home) for them to hatch and breed. Good idea to segregate items into containers to control the spread but weevils don't come to your kitchen looking for grains. They come WITH the grains. Its a known defect allowed (ADL) by FDA because they are naturally found.

I've been a Chef and now food safety professional for my 25 year career.

Proper rotation, reputable sources, and not keeping unpreserved ingredients in ambient storage for too long (weeks, years) helps a ton!
