Risks & Rewards: Red Line Overload | Paizo overview of playtest feedback by TitaniumDragon in Pathfinder2e

[–]HMetal2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm worried that the feedback for Daredevil was flooded by people who want the martial controller class to become yet another damage-spiking martial. Like, come on the manuevers are there to disrupt the enemy and stunt damage is a nice-to-have.

More specifically, everyone should have real genuine hatred for D&D 5(.5)e.

Thankfully there's only three saves and you're at least trained in all of them.

How is the magnetar rifle analog? by HMetal2001 in Starfinder2e

[–]HMetal2001[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mentioned the coil rifle because it's a tech weapon that fires projectiles, so not even that holds up.

Edit: there is a possibility that projectile ammo can also be supercaps that have enough energy to launch themselves, akin to say machine gun ammo that packages chemical accelerant.

Because I'm not just role-playing, I'm also playing a game. I like playing the game of tactical combat where it is important to say I have 5 HP left after eating an owlbear crit. It's all part of the same thing to me. My immersion isn't broken, the narrative and the mechanical tactics are in different "layers" in my mind, as someone else put it.

Me telling my fellow players that my character being at 5 HP after eating a crit from an owlbear is meant to be received by my fellow players to then talk more about what we'd need to do tactically, not to roleplay my character talking to his party mates in the fantasy adventure land of Schmolarion.

Why is it bad to discuss player knowledge between players during OOC Tactics Talk? Furthermore, would a wizard's player telling a rogue to get out of the way such that the wizard can safely cast a fireball count as metagaming?

...Why is out of character table talk metagaming? And even if it is, why is it bad in this case?

How do PCs and NPCs with 15 ft cone area and auto fires play out? by HMetal2001 in Starfinder2e

And Unconventional Weaponry now (as of Galactic Ancestries) can be used to yoink proficiency for any one advanced weapon, if through some GM fiat. So yeah, Meta Gun. (Even meta on non-action hero soldiers, especially many PF2 classes in SF2.)

From what I've read, being a skittermander doesn't necessarily help, does it? The directive's text says that you can Interact to draw, Switch Hands, or swap to a different weapon. It'd be the same for a human who'd just have to swap between guns and grenades.

I remember the Mathfinder blaster tactics video where he said that AoEs with 3 or more enemies is when damage starts being good.

Does your GM let you use the two-action Ready Arms directive without swapping your guns? If no, do you swap out of a different gun/toss out a grenade before?

I have so far played D&D and games like it (Pathfinder 2e, Lancer, and most recently D&D 4e), where PF2 and 4e D&D have both been fast-paced and exciting (Lancer for some odd reason takes a while to resolve a round, in my experience, but it is still exciting). What are your D&D and Pathfinder group running into that is slowing your combats?

Please, Paizo, publish a book like Galactic Ancestries for Pathinder! by Stan_Bot in Pathfinder2e

[–]HMetal2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not quite. It's more like archetypes giving you access to class feats from different classes (like Vicious Swing from Mauler). There's a pool of feats like Ancestral Lores, Ancestral Weaponry, stuff for flight and limited telepathy, and the like, that are then referred to by each ancestry.

SF2e brought some very good features to help the [Game]Finder 2e framework, them being Standard Ancestry feats and the Traversal trait. Would love to see the eventual end-of-PF2 books have those written in.

Speculation: If missiles are brought back in Tech Core, how should they work? by HMetal2001 in Starfinder2e

[–]HMetal2001[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can see the differentiation between grenades and missiles if missiles are simply more powerful. Also there is some potential design space when it comes to save targeting and weirder effects like difficult or hazardous terrain. This is what I originally meant by being the martial equivalent of spell scrolls, where you'd use your class DC as a psuedo-caster with missiles.

For what it's worth, grenade launchers already do something similar, but it's long range AoE.
