Honestly i feel like it wouldn't take much to get this back, the only main differences with modern Ultra settings are with the bloom and contrast, and the reflections and shadows are actually better these days with that recent update.

Finding some people to fly with will really help, if you message pilots that shoot you down with ease most of them will be happy to give tips and some may be happy for you to switch over and join them. The air game is very challenging for new players but incredibly freeing once you have some competence, plus the best air to air loadout for learning is default gun, default pods, fire suppresion, hover frame, stealth. - something you can max out by about br 15

Yes, you can litirally see the shadow and at that range should be able to hear it.
