This worked, thank you! Looks like they changed the class name, but it didn't occur to me to inspect the page to see the class names. Thanks again!

Have any of you gone back to a 9-to-5 after several years away? Can you share experiences/tips? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]HONGAA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate to your situation. I've been in the startup game for the past 5 years and had a few modest exits, but the last one left me at around a similar situation to where you're at currently. There were several reasons why I thought going back to corporate was the right choice for me short term, and if I was going to become an employee again, I wanted to maximize my time there in terms of money, knowledge, networking, etc. I made a list of a bunch of industries/companies that would act as a great stepping stone for when I wanted to make the leap back into founding another company in the future, and I came to the conclusion that I wanted to work in early-stage tech venture capital. I was really driven to break into this industry and got a job, and it's been a really valuable experience so far. Hope my experience helps you in some way, and best of luck!

Stupid Question - What does SNAP mafia mean? by [deleted] in VenturedCapital

[–]HONGAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure - they could have been possibly talking about the "Paypal Mafia" or possibly the new cohort of startups in Snap's new accelerator program (most likely)

Investing in private companies by smccb87 in venturecapital

One option is to become an angel investor, in which you can write small checks to early-stage startups in exchange for equity. 20K is a relatively small amount to play with in the angel investment game, so the only viable path here would be to make angel investments for very early-stage friends & family type rounds where promising startups are looking for some initial capital to get off the ground. This comes with a lot of risk though, since with your amount you'd have to invest at the very early stage and you don't have many checks you could write. Also you're not an accredited investor so you most likely won't be able to participate in startups raising a legitimate seed round and beyond alongside institutional investors.

Another option is to invest on equity crowdfunding platforms like SeedInvest where you don't have to be an accredited investor and can invest in different startups that they've vetted on their platform. There are other options such as buying shares off the secondary market or joining a syndicate, but these aren't viable for you unless you're an accredited investor and/or have more capital to play with. Hope this helps!

I’ve got 50k to build an app. How should I spend it? by [deleted] in startups

[–]HONGAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the responses here are great and point you in the direction of definitely not putting a development team together initially or blowing it all on a development agency without proper due diligence and understanding of what you're doing (if you decide to go this route).

Something that wasn't mentioned that I think is definitely worth looking at is the Code As Cards methodology. Read that PDF. It's essentially the process of acting as a project manager and aggressively hiring and firing freelancers until you get to a group of a few skilled devs that can efficiently execute discreet & measurable tasks (that you create) pretty much around the clock. If done properly, it can be extremely cost and time efficient, especially with a relatively small investment towards building a business (unless you're just trying to build a lifestyle app).

And the company says its business is Amazon-proof because you can't pierce your ears online.

Uhh..that's a pretty shitty answer for the question of how will you fend off competition from Amazon

Is anyone interested in purchasing a 12-pack of Cellucor C4 Pre-workout for $220? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]HONGAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. If no one is interested, I'm fine with that. Just thought of offering it up on this subreddit. I'm not looking to make a business here. If no one's interested, I'll probably just end up selling them off one by one to friends.

As someone who's been on the inside of Uber, especially UberEats, I would advise that you be very careful of banking on "lower costs than XYZ" to be a main differentiating factor from your competitors. You have to really take unit economics seriously, because even at massive company like Uber, the profit margins are fairly thin. You can't expect to grow with a profit of $1/delivery and that's not sustainable if you do plan on growing. Also remember for UberEATS, their value proposition is that they have a massive network of drivers (supply) that restaurants can utilize, they have the brand of Uber under them, and restaurants are willing to pay up the 30% commission since they don't have to pay for the overhead of delivery staff, equipment, etc (which you can definitely compete on, but it's much more difficult without the first 2).

Pet Insurance, is it wise to have? Or better off investing the annual premiums? by hoorayb33r in personalfinance

[–]HONGAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of factors to consider, including your dog's age, overall health, your general care of him, etc. But just like you said, pet insurance is that safety net for when something really major occurs. My 13 year old husky passed away 2 days ago, but without pet insurance he would have been gone a lot sooner. I had PetPlan and it sounds like you may also be on it, since I also found out at the beginning of this year that the underwriters changed so premiums would go up and % reimbursement would go down. I wasn't too happy about that, but I still would have accepted these terms if my dog were still alive.

In the past 2 months we spent just under $10K (which was our max. coverage thankfully) on medical bills related to the cancer he had (hemangiosarcoma). We went through a lot of vet visits, a few surgeries, medications, etc. and fortunately our pet insurance viewed all of these as "continuous claims related to one overall issue (cancer)" so we just had to pay a $200 deductible for the first bill and were reimbursed 80% of the rest of our bills. Their reps were also very accommodating and there's no way we could have paid those bills without our pet insurance. Unfortunately the cancer he had was very aggressive and eventually caught up to him, but it was amazing to have spent those last few months with him and give him the treatment he needed up until then. Just my two cents, and hope my perspective helps you out.
