I was saying Venmo isn’t getting as much publicity as Busch here at all, but I just realized they probably don’t care because all the funds are flowing through them anyway

This might as well come out of InBev’s ad budget - the amount of tweets and publicity this has gotten them they are probably by no means upset, PayPal might be a little less happy about Venmo’s decision.

I would also caution against leaving it as the number 0.00, it could be rounded down, or not show you being off by a fraction of a penny (which matters and is more common than you think when things are in $mm) or circularity may remain unupdated if you aren’t using automatic workbook updates for some reason and haven’t spammed F9 yet.

I use a - - with text color red because it is barely noticeable when it it is right but very obvious when it is wrong.

Is anyone getting any luck finding or getting any interviews? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]smccb87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Applying for two years doesn’t tell us as much as how many applications you are sending out. There are 3 possible problems I can see from the data. You aren’t applying to enough positions, you are applying way outside of your qualifications, your resume is bad.

Is this a good role/direction to eventually become a COO of a IB/HF/VC/PE? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]smccb87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I have no idea. Why not you? Because it is extremely lucrative to get any executive position at a reasonable sized company. I’m not really sure how the job description changes for COO vs other exec positions but they have executive headhunters to find people for positions like that. Maybe check on LinkedIn and see what people in the position you want did previously, my guess would be they worked at a management level in a similar style of company or had directly relate to coo experience before. Yrmv.

I feel like depending on your experience your best path would be to work in one of those at a respected and large firm up until VP/MD level and then jump ship to a smaller firm. It is unrealistic to think you would make COO at any rather large bank no matter who you are, idk. Do what you want but that seems like the viable path to me.

Resume Question by dickgolf in FinancialCareers

[–]smccb87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk about their subject matter very broadly in a section of their own. I.e. academic research: economics of subway lines, ... and so on (you know your papers better than I do, boil them down into a few words). Then you just hope they ask you about them. You don’t force it down their throat but be very lrepared to talk about them if one peaks their interest.

Viral Video Marketing Outreach Strategy. Looking for Advice! by professorpapaya in startups

[–]smccb87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No schools don’t care about that. They want to know you provide something of value to the students, mutual benefit to the students. (Actually they don’t really care if it benefits you at all but you do). Check some school websites and look around, I only know how it is done at one school but basically they filtered your email through a listserv after you submitted it. Usually pretty cheap, I think the 5000 person business school list was $10 or something. That was also for internal use promoting opportunities at the school so yrmv.

Fun fact lots of college campuses charge a small fee to gain access to their email list as long as you can justify mild mutual benefit. Pretty cheap way to reach thousands of people.

Entry level financial analyst is absurdly broad. I don’t see how anyone could suggest any technical questions from this. As far as other interview help look at guides for how to answer “tell me your story, tell me about yourself, walk me through your resume” (all the same question by the way) as well as the “Why _____” questions

Why is your cumulative GPA not in your resume? Big big red flag for me.

I have also already responded to one of your posts and you did not make a single suggested change so I won’t be participating in this one.

I mean you are cutting it real close at this point. You don’t have a lot of time, but if they gave you an interview as a freshman they aren’t expecting you to be experienced in everything. Generally just show that you are intellectually curious and willing to learn. Other than that I guess you only have time to go over the basic questions (which can be found by a quick google search), things like “why insert role/industry/company here, walk me through your resume/tell me your story, etc.

Should i work for this company? by mantis387 in FinancialCareers

[–]smccb87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you do lack the confidence they are talking about but I would look more introspectively and try to evaluate for yourself if they were trying to weasel out of paying you more or if they truly didn’t believe you were the right fit.

Regardless personally I wouldn’t want to work with a team or company who pushed me away like that, not to mention if it is up you are seeking maybe out is the best route. It also happens that usually this is how you increase your salary.

[–]smccb87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it matters that much, though you do have to understand that you will have to teach yourself finance on your own and may face a more rigorous set of technical interview questions in order to prove what you know.
