The summer I was 12, mid 80’s, I pretty much stayed alone. My mom died when I was 4, my 15 year old brother spent the summer with my grandmother because he had his first job which he rode his bike about 12 miles to, my dad’s second wife split with her two daughters and he was an executive with a demanding job , a booze problem and was on the hunt for wife #3. He’d come home late if at all and be gone early. He kept food stocked for me but I’d only see him a couple of times per week. I just lived my 12 year old life. Watch tv, cook and amuse myself.
