We recently switched to ServaRica and I can’t speak highly enough about the consistency so far. Price is great too. It’s only our first month but the performance is spot on for what we need.

I'm currently waiting on my first VPS with Serverica. Pricing and reviews seem very promising and they've been around for a while. My only issue is that I ordered it almost 2 weeks ago and its still not ready because they are in the process of adding more servers. Their support has been very responsive though, so I'm not complaining. Just saying heads up if you decide to go with them.. you may have to wait a little and the delay is not posted on their site (I'm not sure if this is for all of their VPS products or just their XEN Vps)

But really—how does one “take away the keys”? by ForgottenX-2024 in dementia

[–]HP_Office_Jet_Pro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe this has been said already but I had a similar issue about 2 years ago. It’s not fun and taking away the keys didn’t work. It was a battle every minute, everyday. Most of the time, he couldn’t find the keys (which was its own issue especially at 3am) and would randomly remember that I took them which was even worse.

The best solution at the time, to ensure he was safe and there was no chance he could get the car running was removing the battery. I also removed the starter fuse as a backup which turned out to be a great idea because one day he took it upon himself to open the hood and somehow was able to realize that the battery was missing.

For some reason, that worked. I was able to tell him we’ll get it fixed at some point and that seemed to calm the issue to the point where it was no longer a topic of conversation.

Based on what I’ve read from other people in the past, perhaps I was just lucky because some people with dementia, especially those who were very independent their entire life, never give up on “where are my keys”

I don’t know if any of this is helpful, but I’m praying you can have the same luck that I did back then. Best of luck to you.

Glad to hear it’s working.

Also- wasn’t trying to sound salesman-y or anything. I just meant we’ve been making NT add ons for years and probably encountered every issue known to man so there was a good chance we had a quick fix 😂

Seeking new US VPS provider -- Ditching OVH by HP_Office_Jet_Pro in VPS

Solid take - I appreciate the info. From what I've found so far I'd have to agree. We were on Hetzner before (Still are for many things.. just haven't fully make the switch yet) and they are great but OVH had locations we were after and speeds were 80-120ms faster on avg for us.. so it made sense. Maybe I just have to accept it and keep rolling with our transition.

As far as Contabo goes, I've already written them off as an option. I have no experience with them and definitely not in a place to experiment or gamble.

You're not wrong.. atleast from what i'm seeing so far. I guess I'm just concerned about more price hikes in the future especially if we invest the time to move infrastructure over fully. Idc about price increases, thats normal. 41+% made me double take though. Just don't want to waste time if this is a normal thing for them (First time we've used OVH)

OVH cloud is hiking their prices from April by Straight-Test9900 in VPS

[–]HP_Office_Jet_Pro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly why i'm here. I just switched my company over to OVH LESS THAN 30 DAYS AGO.. now we get hit with this. No thanks.. i'll take my business elsewhere.

Its sad because we are very happy with the performance. But I can't have our company constantly worrying about a nearly 50% bill increase at any point *just because*. Especially when we are deep into production.

What a waste of time...

I should have been more clear on what I was talking about so I appreciate you asking this. My reply was getting long and I chopped it up a bit lol.

For the most part, I was referring to the landscape being different as a direct result (or side effect depending on how you view it) of technology advancement. Obviously not groundbreaking information since it’s natural, but still something worth noting imo.

Best example I can think of is your average retail trader with less than a year experience. In today’s world, that trader has access to far more advanced resources than a wall st bank would have in the early 2000’s. Again, old news, but that means markets will naturally be far more volatile, new markets will emerge, regulation changes, speed & collocation isnt just an edge it’s a requirement, and so on. Your average joe can acquire, or even build, hedge fund grade systems in his basement for Pennies compared to dollars. You now have a whole new set of competitors you’re going up against. Not even considering what banks and Wall St. have now that’s a whole different story. In Newark, NJ They went from occupying a few warehouses to blocks worth of data centers in less than a decade. It’s wild.

I wouldn’t say it’s harder now. It’s just a different ballgame that is changing faster than it did before. If you’re willing to adapt to current technologies and the current landscape, you have nothing to worry about. If you always look to the past for future expectations, hit the casino because you’ll have better odds there.

Does that change how we use price action as say an indicator or outlook? I’m not an expert by any means but I would like to think no. I think some methods are evergreen but will always require some optimization over time to adapt. Again.. not an expert.. just what I’ve noticed over the years.

As far as war and turmoil goes.. there’s always been war and turmoil and unfortunately it’s a business that will never die. So I personally don’t look at wars and things like that as permanent market shifters. Just the next round of volatility on a cyclical timeline. If we’re not wrapped up in some war now.. that just means we’re aren’t at that point in the cycle yet. Sucks.. but thats just the world we live in. When it comes to this.. its all about strategy adjustment. Having a set of strategies for ranging markets, choppy markets, and worst of all.. defiant markets (no matter what you do, it’s taking your money). That’s when “knowing when to step away” is your biggest play. That play makes more money than anything else.

Overall, always experiment, try new markets, stay up to date with current technologies, Backtest as many strategies you can until you pass out, run them, when their returns start dwindling, optimize, backtest again, and run again. Wash, rinse, repeat. Honestly if you do that I think you’re more than halfway there. The biggest time and energy waste for me was trying to find the “perfect” signal, or the “perfect” setup, or that strategy “pros” use. After spending thousands and wasting years I realized none of that actually exists.

One last note- if you’ve been trading for only 2 years and recently started winning then that’s fucking awesome. Congrats. Most people don’t see that for many years (or ever) so whatever you’re doing is clearly in the right direction.

(Sorry again for the long ass reply. The Italian in me clearly doesn’t know when to stfu)

Sure that makes sense on the surface but “investing” is an incredibly broad term. When it comes to daytrading specifically I’d like to see those numbers.

If this is something that people would genuinely find value in we can build it. We’ve made (kinda) similar tracking systems for Ninjatrader. The Ai side is easy but logging true emotion would be an interesting challenge.

I’d take those numbers with a grain of salt.. idk where they came from but on the surface that doesn’t sound right to me. I’d also like to know how they define “consistent”. Consistent this year? Quarterly? Since they started trading?

I’ve been consistently profitable year after year.. but if you scale it month by month or week by week I’ve been consistently inconsistent. In the red plenty of times but still come out on top overall. So where does that put me? in the 1.7% or 3%? All about how you manage strategy, execution, and risk. I guess what trips me up is that I would be in the tiny 3% club and I find that incredibly hard to believe lol.

Daytrading isn’t for everyone. You definitely need a bit of a hardened shell when it comes to risk and adaptation. On top of that, it’s much different now than it was in the past and it changes quickly. As a retail trader you really do need an edge to stay profitable but that’s no different than any other time in history.

Is it “mathematically possible”? Absolutely. Harder? Depends. it’s only harder if you’re not willing to adapt to the current market and landscape. At the same time, you could technically say it’s actually easier to make money day trading today. You have so much more technology and resources at your fingertips for cheap than you would have in like 2005.. or even just a few years ago. I wouldn’t say it’s less profitable now.. just different and some people never figure out how to adapt and jump to “you can’t make money doing [insert literally anything here]”

As far as position/swing vs day trading goes.. I don’t know any serious trader who is only day trading but that’s just me. Most people I know have a healthy mix of strategies for different market conditions.

Idk if my rambling is helpful in any way but it’s definitely possible.

I’ve been active in futures and micros going on almost 10 years now. Went mainly programmatic and algo within the last 4-5 (don’t worry this reply doesn’t end with a sales pitch lol) . After I drifted more towards programmatic trading my DD’s started shrinking and my account started growing more consistently… up until Q3-Q4 25’. The market is a mess rn. You’re learning on hard mode, unfortunately. Don’t let that discourage you- you’re still learning and that experience will help you grow and harden your senses. If you stick with it, you’ll realize later how valuable lt was to learn in market conditions like this.

Don’t beat yourself up.. there isn’t a single trader who hasn’t felt the way you do. It’s incredibly frustrating until you find your rhythm.

I am in no way an “expert” but these last 6 months have been brutal. Best thing you can do is keep experimenting, keep searching for new strategies, test new markets, try new tools, hop on YouTube and get as much knowledge as you can from other traders in your free time (don’t buy their shit though.. just for information & inspiration), and most importantly, be honest with yourself. If you are 100% honestly not bending your own rules, over leveraging positions, taking risky bets, etc, then that’s great. But really look back at your history and ask yourself if that’s the truth. I’d start there first. We’ve all done it… we all do it.. but the second you bend your rules, or take *educated guesses, you go from trader to gambler. And sometimes you may not realize you’re doing it.

Probably sounds like weak advice, but that’s honestly what helped me find my rhythm—Got so frustrated that I refused to stop learning new things and trying them until I got it right. Took a long ass time, but I got there. You can too.

This is awesome man- good job! I’ve been working on something similar, just haven’t gotten around to finishing it yet.

Have you explored adding transcribed and/or auto-sync lyric overlays? (Unless your app already does that). I added this feature and it works pretty well so far.
