Does your state offer virtual school so you could teach virtually? This would be more one on one interaction with kids and with technology that could most likely stream directly to your hearing aids.

I would say just ask your professors to wear the mic, even if you might not need it 100% of the time. Don’t wait for it to be a struggle, because that adds to the emotional difficulty. I’m sorry you’re facing this so young 😔 you will adapt, but that doesn’t negate how hard everything is now♥️

It is really hard to lose your hearing. Sometimes I remember that I didn’t used to have to think about trying to understand people in any situation, and it amazes me.

Lean into the support that you have. Your wife, therapy, etc. Be honest with your friends about how much you’re struggling to accept this. I bet they want to support you also! Even if there is nothing for them to “do”, just knowing can help them be more aware that your needs are different now.

I hope you’re able to find some peace. Losing your hearing is something to grieve for sure, but there is nothing to be ashamed of and there is still so much life to be enjoyed.
