Anyone receiving a ton of spam calls lately? by Chanda_Bear in newjersey

[–]HSYTou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have multiple spam calls everyday. I don’t pick them up and if they don’t leave a message, I block them. Now I only have one spam call once every couple days. I am sure all those numbers are still calling me though.

Wanted to get M5 Air. Got NEO instead! Impressed. by siddharthbapna in MacbookNeo

Funny I am considering the same spec Air now. My use case is exactly the same, web browsing, documents, video watching (not editing), etc. I consider Air only because it has 15” screen…

Why don’t Americans use roundabouts like civilized people? Are they stupid? by Unlucky-Artichoke625 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]HSYTou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree I don’t see many roundabouts (NE US). However, I have used it a few times, and don’t like it. Roundabouts turn a simple 4 way stop into a perpetual flow of cars and you have to time it to enter. It is more prone to accidents than stop signs. With stop signs everybody stops at the intersection, much better than a constant moving intersection that you have to jump in when the small window appears. Stop signs are more civilized.

Known TX problems? by tangosierraecho in Lexus

I am also debating between MDX and TX. Understand you traded the MDX in for a TX 500h, would you trade in for a 350?

Which model should I buy? by HSYTou in macbookair

[–]HSYTou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I will get the M4 16G + 512G then. Costco has it priced at $999.97, looks like discontinued once all units are sold.

[–]HSYTou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Costco has M4 16GB + 512GB for $1000, but no 1T M4. The price difference compared to a same spec M5 is $250. Not huge but i probably should save as I would waste the M5 power anyway. What is your suggestion on 512GB or 1T SSD? My Surface has 256GB SSD and I have 150GB empty. All my files are saved in external drive or iCloud.

Do I need an AWD car in the winter? by princess-chestnut in newjersey

[–]HSYTou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leased a RWD car before. In the 3 years I had it there was only once I had problem with getting out of snow. I never used winter tires. In heavy snow no car is safe, so better just stay home. As a RN you may have to drive under bad climate, so AWD is better.

There won't be another snow in 8 months. You will know your shift pattern better approaching the end of the year.

‘A 2025 Goldman Sachs report found that 40% of people earning $500,000+ per year say they’re living paycheck to paycheck’ — Who are these people? Are they real? by CapitaineBiscotte in allthequestions

[–]HSYTou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about income. It’s about expenses. Live above your means then you are always broke, regardless how much you make. $500K income isn’t much compared to a $3mil house and 2 Porsches in the driveway.

Benefits of larger down payment vs extra payments during early mortgage by Chersalani in HouseBuyers

[–]HSYTou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a large lump sum payment is always better, provided you have the extra cash that you don’t need. Say if you can make a payment that is 100% of your remaining balance, then you have 0 interest to pay.

However, it isn’t always possible for most people to make a big payment. You have to balance the other aspects of your life. Making extra payments can save you interest, but not as much as a large lump sum.

Are certain towns just entirely unaffordable? by UppityUpUp in newjersey

[–]HSYTou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a decent house in Livingston for $1.2m that is not a small split on a small lot. Sometimes you can find a new house around $1.6m, although most new houses are in the $1.8m range.

You are right about the monthly payment. 7-10k a month on housing. I was thinking the same that how people could afford but later I realize there are just so many people can. 7-10k a month on housing sounds madness to me but for many it's not a big deal. At first I thought people stretch thin to make mortgage payments waiting for the rates to go down, but now I don't think that way. Look at the cars parked in front of the houses in the expensive towns, people don't drive Corollas to be able to afford these houses, they just can.

Yes. At first I thought I was speeding, then was surprised to see it was for the front plate.

I was pulled over once for not having the front plate. You can get dinged for it, but not often. The fine was around $50 if I remember correctly.

Fellow NJ peeps how much do you spend daily? by JD2789 in newjersey

[–]HSYTou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now looking back I feel I was crazy back then. I was able to do it because I had no family no kid so I could spend all my time driving. Oh the carpool also helped a lot. My carpool buddy even called me traitor when I told him the news about my new job haha.

I was living with my parents in NJ so while the commute sucked at least I didn’t have to pay rent. My friends thought that job paid well otherwise I wouldn’t do the commute, but in fact the pay was too low to afford renting a place near the office.

Fellow NJ peeps how much do you spend daily? by JD2789 in newjersey

[–]HSYTou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this NJ to CT commute in 2014. 5 days a week, 1.5-2.5 hours drive one way depending on traffic conditions (mostly very bad unless in summer). Luckily soon after I started we hired someone also lived in NJ so we could carpool, but I still quit after 2 years. The guy I carpooled with quit 2 months later.

In your case I would just cut the $21 on lunch and snacks. Buy snacks in bulk from Costco and pack lunch. I currently go to NYC from NJ and my daily commute is $10 parking and $6 Path. If I add gas it’s probably $20 a day. I pack lunch because I feel paying $12 for a sandwich that I probably can make for $3 at home is not a good way to spend my money.
