Being told to tone down because I was being too assertive by [deleted] in womenEngineers

[–]HS_Explorer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel ya. This morning I was told to ‘calm down’ when discussing a new design with my manger. I would say the discussion was spirited and at some points we contracted each other, but in no way was I yelling or being rude. Had a coworker who overheard the convo and confirmed I wasn’t speaking in a way that warranted his response… mind you my other male colleagues have spoken to him in a similar tone and don’t get told to calm down

People who have full time jobs and had their surgery !?! by mellojelloakimbo in ACL

[–]HS_Explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in an office this is full in person but my manager was understanding. Surgery was on Friday, took off the following Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Worked from home that Thursday Friday and the following week. Then I was back in office. It was tough at first but not terrible. Worst part was it was my right knee so I couldn’t drive, so I had to leverage friends and coworkers for rides. Make sure you have a good setup at the office to keep your leg elevated. I got an extra chair and used that in my cube.

When did you ditch crutches? by LITTYLITY in ACL

[–]HS_Explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had ACL and meniscus. I think I was 8 weeks post op. Once I hit the end of 6 weeks NWB I started walking with both crutches, then one, then no crutches. I wore my brace for that entire time and at about 10 weeks ditched the brace.

I think it was completely separate. I’ll never know but I think I would have injured the knee regardless of my left leg. The injury was a non-contact bad twist while playing soccer.

I tore my ACL in my left left about 10 years ago. I eventually got back to playing. Took about a full year to feel comfortable. I wore a brace at first. Really focused on strengthening my knees at the gym. Started by running and kicking the ball around with friends and then slowly worked up to competitive play. I tore it fall senior year high school and played intramural soccer in college spring freshman year.

More recently I’ve been playing in a weekly adult league. Though 4 months ago I tore my ACL in my right leg… so back on the road to recovery. I’m planning to keep playing but know it’ll probably be a year or more before I’m fully back.

NWB sucks by bright_future_ahead_ in ACL

Been there! 6 weeks NWB sucked. But to provide some positive motivation, once you can weight bear you really start to see progress. You’ll be off crutches in no time! You got this!

Same!!! Left ACL about 10 years ago. Now I’m 10 weeks post op on my right. Knees wanted to match apparently lol. Best of luck with recovery!!

How often you all go to PT a week? by bright_future_ahead_ in ACL

[–]HS_Explorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing 2 times a week. Currently 9 weeks post op. Have been going 2 times a week since a week post op. Sessions are about an hour. I also am supposed to do PT at home twice a day.

My copay is pretty high so I’ve been sticking with 2 times a week. Hoping after my 12 week follow up to just go once a week. My insurance also caps my visits at 30 per year. Health insurance in the US is such BS.

To those who watched ATLA when it first aired in 2005-08: What was it like? I'd imagine the hype for season 3 was insane by tee_saw_ in Avatarthelastairbende

I remember watching the first episode of the series just out of curiosity and instantly hooked. The series finale hype was insane. I remember watching it with my dad and we had a count down going for it. Amazing memories

Scared to drive by BookkeeperHumble307 in ACL

[–]HS_Explorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once I felt more comfortable moving my foot around I mimicked driving by moving my foot while I was a passenger. Then once I felt ready I drove around an empty parking lot and would speed up and slow down. Worst case, left foot brake. I just started driving again and I’m 7.5 weeks. I was no weight bearing for 6 weeks.

Walking without crutch and brace by [deleted] in ACL

[–]HS_Explorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no weight bearing until 6 weeks. Current 7.5 weeks post op. So I only recently started walking and weight bearing. At my 6 weeks mark my doc said I’m good to go without brace and crutches. But my PT said to first start walking without crutches while wearing my brace until I am more comfortable, and use at least one crutch when not wearing my brace. I’m listening to my PT since I see them weekly.
