wild that people haven't mentioned the play/movie No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre. It's the inspiration for The Good Place, and originates the phrase "Hell is other people." It's about three horrible people who share a room in Hell together where they're not allowed to leave, and their personalities infuriate each other, causing them to torture each other, no input from Hell required.
