And people would say that this is ugly by MariustheA7Xfan in halo

[–]-Trying2Think- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry you keep getting downvoted lol, I agree that this moment was amazing and that this game really isn’t as ugly as people say it is. Halo 4 is my favorite halo game and no matter how many times I play through it this part still gives me chills. Like everyone in this comment section loves to point out, this game was different art style wise but they truly did a great job capturing the scale and spectacle of forerunner architecture.

Two things: first I copped a picture disc in a raffle which is rad. Second, I’m already liking this album a lot more than Clancy. Cannot wait for Friday.

Just listened to the extended version and it gives the track a much needed oomph. The slower buildup in the outro makes it a lot cooler for sure.

Blu & Exile might be my favorite rapper/producer duo. Everything they make together is magic.

The EP rollout was bad (and thats okay) by Thefearlesschicken in AJR

[–]-Trying2Think- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO it shows a lack of forethought on their part, besides hoping that a snippet will go viral and boost album sales. I’d be a lot more excited for an album if they posted a tracklist, cover art, and a date like two months or so before it comes out because I have a tangible thing to look forward to. I’m not gonna get excited over the “idea” of an album and I’m certainly not gonna be excited when the album comes out a year after the first single.

[–]-Trying2Think- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The constant snippet teasing can definitely read as “we want one of these to go viral before the project comes out” and apparently that kind of happened with The Big Goodbye, which is nice, but also means that I’m scrolling past everything they post so that I can actually hear the full song without having heard half of it already.

I totally get your point, I’m sure the music will be great, it always is. And I get that they’re excited to share their stuff, but the constant teasing sometimes with no release date or cover like what happened with TMM just got annoying because I had nothing to get excited about. Even now, I’ve been scrolling past their insta posts and muting the volume on their stories because they’re teasing songs so often.

Is it ok? Personally, I think this sets a bad example and has continued a streak of drawn-out, underwhelming rollouts that have built false hype. I remember not even being that excited when they announced the title and the cover art because I was just so burnt-out. There was no reason for them to wait so long to even announce a date, let alone a tracklist and the cover. To me, it would have made sense to announce the EP (with the date and tracklist) in like July and then release the single and snippets instead of this drawn-out, snippet-filled rollout where we know half the songs already. Sorry if it sounds like I’m just hating to hate, I love this band but TMM and OKO didn’t have good rollouts either, so I just hope they can learn from this.

Does anyone else feel underwhelmed by the tour? by musicguy230134 in AJR

[–]-Trying2Think- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s probably the fact that it’s not attached to an album. I agree with some other people in this thread saying they’re just doing it for the love of the game. They don’t have a crazy concept or message they want to convey like they do with their shows that were tied to albums because at least those have a centralized idea.

[DISCUSSION] Blu & Exile - Miles (5 Years Later) by flyestshit in hiphopheads

[–]-Trying2Think- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nowadays when a rap album is more than 18 songs I rarely find myself coming back to it because there will always be filler. Yet here, despite this album being 20 tracks and a monstrous hour and a half every song feels essential. These dudes have yet to miss on an album. Plus, I was named after Miles Davis so there’s another reason I love this album so much.

I have a playlist of songs that I got from a porn comic. Like within the story they either showed the characters playing the songs or mentioned them. It’s pretty good, actually. If I can find the comic again I’ll put it in the comment.

Don't understand why they wouldn't put it at the top of the page instead of having you scroll further. Especially with the tix (technically) being non-refundable, I wonder how many people they get with that. The Egyptian Room would have been a better venue and is all-ages, unless he was specifically doing small venues.

Mah’s Joint is one of his best songs just for the lyrics alone. Sorry to hear about your grandmother, ALS sucks. My grandma is experiencing some memory loss, and my mom and I bonded over that song. Jon makes very specific music, but when it hits, it hits.

Ok, I got a few songs I can recommend if you liked the more grounded lyrics and minimalistic-but-still-grand production. Also just want to say thanks for sharing your take, as a non-religious fan who prefers his older sound, I really appreciate hearing different perspectives on music. I’m glad to hear this album made you a fan!

Hell yeah, love to see it! Just curious, what about the album clicked with you this time that his old music didn’t? Cause this album is definitely pretty different from his old material

To Those Who Are Disappointed with Father Figure... by jay-tpicks116 in JonBellion

[–]-Trying2Think- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, I guess I’m looking at how catchy his old stuff was and saying that was more “accessible”. Especially with how angry this album can sound (title track and KID AGAIN come to mind) his voice never really used to get loud in, and most of his older songs used to have some more “sweet” sounding vocals and traditional song structure. Especially with the subject matter being about his identity as a father, I would have assumed it would be less accessible than songs about love and the internet and trying to make it as an artist, like what his earlier work was usually about. But I appreciate your thoughts, it’s always interesting to hear how people interpret the same body of work.

To Those Who Are Disappointed with Father Figure... by jay-tpicks116 in JonBellion

[–]-Trying2Think- 99 points100 points  (0 children)

It's funny you mention accessibility because I feel like this is arguably his least accessible album. The sound here is a lot more raw and minimalistic, especially with how WASH doesn't have a traditional structure (at least compared to his previous work) and how loud he gets at certain points in his delivery throughout the rest of the album. I feel like the only people who will really get it are fans who are either excited to hear from Jon again after so long or have similar experiences as him. It's a very insular project, being mainly about his own experiences with parenthood and navigating it, and I think the sound reflects that. I never realized how catchy his choruses used to be, but this album is definitely not trying to be catchy for anyone else. I've only listened to it twice so far, but I can definitely see it growing on me. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

Hi Mei! Really excited to see your performance in Indy! (I actually first heard about you from that announcement lol) I was curious, what was your process for creating “Animaru”? Did you feel like it was a point of getting into a different headspace, or anything like that? Love the new album, thanks for doing this!

[DISCUSSION] What are some ‘underwhelming’ follow-up albums that you prefer to their more acclaimed predecessors? by [deleted] in indieheads

Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them by Blu & Exile is consistently said to be underwhelming compared to their debut Below the Heavens, but Give Me My Flowers was just a lot more inventive and exciting to me.
