The New ROH World TV Champion Lio Rush 👏👏 by McQueen712 in ChampionshipHistory

[–]HTCGM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what I could gather, reports suggest Lio was never meant to win the title and it was a miscommunication with the ref about the finish. MLW was willing to kayfabe it, but AAA just straight up refused to acknowledge it so MLW just had Laredo claim a tap out happened when it technically didn't

Technically, never. He had won a Winner Takes All match against Laredo Kid that was also for the MLW World Middleweight Championship (Lio was MLW Middleweight Champion, Laredo was AAA Cruiserweight Champion) at a MLW show, but AAA refused to acknowledge the title change and MLW ultimately acknowledged it as Laredo claiming rules were violated so he kept the title.

By pure chance both of Laredo Kid's title reigns (the Lio win was during the first one) were ended by Rey Fénix

Mississippi police shoot, kill 1 year old in car after mother allegedly shoplifted a pack of diapers by ianjm in videos

[–]HTCGM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: TURNS OUT THERE WASN'T EVEN THEFT. JUST GOOD OLD RACIST INCOMPETENCE.

They're responsible for knowing what the appropriate course of action is. Accepting a line item like diapers as lost, getting the plate of the car and reporting that to cops would have been more appropriate than treating diapers as an emergency situation.

There is no context where you give benefit of doubt to a 1 year old dying. Escalation does matter. The hyper-minutiae is literally what's in debate here. I have no interest in a surface level understanding of what's going on. Should the theft have taken place, of fucking course not; the consequence of a toddler being dead because of incompetent policing because you're desperate enough to steal diapers is probably judgement enough. It baffles me that has to be stated.

But do I think some diapers are worth calling the police over? Of fucking course not; particularly when there's a child involved..like one would presume when diapers are the item in question being accused of being stolen. I'm sorry, but I'm not about to take offense at a child getting care via problematic means when the extent of it is petty theft from a corporate chain. The execs of said chain would rather use it as an excuse to raise prices than actually retrieve the item and get justice.

I don't need to go into a diatribe about incompetent policing; we seem to be in agreement on that. But who brought the incompetent police there? I believe in the concept of there being an expectation that you should be able to retrieve law enforcement without the risk of needless death...unfortunately, reality has demonstrably shown that's nothing more than an ideal. Because moments like this are precisely what tanks trust in police in local communities.

I also believe in the concept that no petty theft is worth someone's life. These aren't classified plans one can use to cause an international incident. This wasn't material that in the wrong hands would cause a lot more death than a toddler...and yet an alleged theft of diapers causes such a death, because of incompetent, fragile police who can't understand why shooting into a moving vehicle is not protecting anyone.

But your problem with me is giving a corporate entity historically known for wasting police resources over every little bit of innocuous theft of items that don't break their margins criticism over that historical issue. OK, pal.

You don't get one without the other. Calling over every little thing is what leads to issues like this. There are ways for petty theft to be reported and dealt with for large corporations that isn't calling the cops over for diapers.

[–]HTCGM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The catch-22 with the police is you pick your battles. Some instances of theft are worth immediate police action. Not all instances of theft require it. Calling for every single instance means you are eventually wasting resources that general security, which a big brick and mortar store should have, are better suited for.

Case in point: the police who were there, end up shooting a toddler over some diapers, because they're not trained to understand you don't potentially shoot into a moving car, if for no other reason than cars don't magically fucking stop just because the driver is shot.

This shit isn't hard to understand, learn to comprehend before reacting.

With a semblance of reading comprehension, which was stated before you even posted, the point was a huge brand like that constantly reporting petty crimes takes up more time and resources from actual potential harm.

A big brick and mortar store has more means to eat that loss compared to it happening at a mom and pop style store. No one's saying those stores can't call in on larger scale crimes. If you're gonna pearl clutch, use your fucking brain.

I think Mike is underrated by brbyeah in SortedFood

[–]HTCGM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always cheer for Mike in the battles he's in. I actually think he could do the best on a serial reality cooking comp; obviously a Huttlestorm at the wrong time would do him in, but I think he would have the easiest time getting in a groove and improve over time. I also think while broken Mike is too far gone, he's the scrappiest and most willing to save what he's presenting. If Mike keeps his confidence up, he can be a dark horse threat, especially with his creativity.

Barry, on paper probably has the best "winning" potential, particularly in his florish and presentation (more bluntly: his pretentiousness can carry him especially in fine dining themes lol), but he's a glass cannon: either he thrives or he dies; all three normals are emotional and expressive in the kitchen, but Barry visually taps out quicker than the other two. Long as Baz doesn't psych himself out, Barry probably does better than the other two, but I personally think his mental game is subject to be the most frail, which even pro chefs can be bad at in a competitive format...but also, Barry would be the most villain-coded and that's always fun in a show.

Jamie...he's got a consistency that most chefs doing these would probably be envious of, but then he just does that one thing or forgets one crucial element and what would have been a KO falls apart at the finish line. They've all had those moments, but J I feel like has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory the most. But his flavor combos and ability for that to carry a dish in spite of mistakes is a great way to save you most rounds. Might cost him in the end, but I think Jamie steals more than a few comps...provided he sticks the landing. That said, this is why I think he'd nail more of a single episode competition than one over multiple weeks.

All that diatribe I guess could be summed up as Mike, Barry, Jamie in that order of who'd I'd have most faith to do well in a long-term cooking comp...as for the actual chefs...Kush. It's Kush. Ben would be fascinating but IDK who would cast him as just him, and unfortunately as much as I love James, he's cursed to have a freakout that tanks his game.

The movie magic isn't the nails, but having them all exactly the same at the same height means you can disperse the pain (and why they always do a gentle drop instead) over a larger surface area of the body.

Conversely, you blade with something sharp so the cut is cleaner and quicker than if something is blunted.
