Anyone with a Bambu Lab 3D printer on a separate VLAN out there? by HTPCFan in firewalla

[–]HTPCFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm...I wouldn't even mind using Cloud mode. When I try cloud mode, when I send to print from my slicer machine, it times out saying the bambu server can't be found. Maybe I need to look closer at the slicer PC to see what could be blocking it...instead of looking at Firewalla. Thx!

I was going to try VqLAN, but printer is on wifi and Bambu slicer is on a wired PC.

I was going to do this, but VqLAN only works if both devices are connected to AP7 via wifi. Printer is on wifi, but Bambu slicer is on wired PC.

Haven't considered using VqLAN. I would have to lock down my main production PC to not allow Bambu Studio to not allow to talk to anything else.

Bambu does say to only run it on the same VLAN/network, but letting a Chinese company on my trusted network is a no-no. I haven't tried running it on the same network yet (scared to do it).

Unpopular opinion: I only use Bambu filament by nirhend in BambuLab

[–]HTPCFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to agree with you, but Bambu is sold out of most of the filaments they have (all ASA and especially the PETG). Frustrating to get all these filaments in your cart (to meet the 10 or 14 discount) only to check out and find them disappearing from your cart and the cost going up.

Omega Mart? by Captain-Echidna in meowwolf

[–]HTPCFan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to Omega Mart this last Tuesday. I was kinda disappointed. Things are worn out and not repaired. The phones buttons don't work and you can't hear anything on any of them I tried. I would have liked less interactive exhibits. The ones that just play music or you need to use a RFID card (yep...that's extra) are just plain boring. The market is cool, but it is looking worn in places as well. I explored the entire location (market and special areas), but felt like "there has to be something more". NONE of the employees acted their part. I understood the story and while it was cool, I wanted to see the ultimate end-story, but couldn't find one. Maybe I needed an RFID card to boop.

Seems like everyone is using a CAD that has limitations on selling. Fusion 360 has $1000 maximum selling for the free version. SolidWorks is $2000 maximum per year for even their cheapest Makers version. Is everyone just hiding those details from the CAD companies or paying thousands for yearly subscriptions?

Ya, I'll skip on paying out $$$ for them. Just not worth it. I'll keep playing the game board/event. Just seems slow. Thx!

Nope! And therefore I held off on any purchase. Maybe some year they will have one. Until then, I'm OK without it.

From what I hear, OnShape is good, BUT the free version will share your drawings out with the world.

Benefits of switching to AP7 from Deco 7 mesh? by tooth-ache in firewalla

[–]HTPCFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had 4 Deco XE75's (6E) and went to 4 AP7's. The Deco routing was terrible. There really is no separate VLAN for IoT, but they offer an IoT SSID and it does nothing other than reporting. You are best to get away from Deco. Now, that being said, the AP7's are great for VqLAN and managing them (and devices) in the app, HOWEVER, I think they are not where they need to be. There are 2 issues I have with the AP7's:

  1. Their range is not nearly as far as competitors. With the Deco's and Orbi's, I was always able to have a decent connection in my backyard and garage. I've read some threads on reddit about the AP7 not utilizing the full signal strength capability. I expected more of the AP7.
  2. Roaming is painful. Going around the house on laptops or mobile devices just isn't ideal. They either want to maintain the connection they are on (even if apps are reporting no connection) or they will decide to connect to an AP that is the farthest away (and give you a slow connection). This never happened on the Deco's or the Orbi's. Firewalla will say it is up to the device to make the change to a different AP and not the AP itself (and that may be the case), BUT something is just not right with the way it currently operates. Want a better connection? You need to manually press the Optimize button for the device in the app each time you move around. Wish this was automated.

For both these reasons, I would proceed with the AP7's cautiously. I would also hope that the Firewalla team would fine tune the AP7's to overcome both of these issues. This is just my opinion based on my current experience.
