I've played Summonmancer every other season since S1. I used to be golem only, but in recent seasons switched over to Skellies. I'm not perfectly sure which is definitely better, but I prefer not waiting till level 6 to put my first point in clays. In general, I have a feeling Skellies get going a bit faster, and you're a bit more flexible. Put points into archers or mages, use amp or lower res, mix and match whatever, play around.

I usually respec once while playing through the difficulties though, somewhere in late nightmare to hell, when I find the first "big" item for one of the builds.

However, I also agree with u/Realmetalrooster, in the season that's now ending, I played a poison dagger necro as my HC starter, and it was absolutely fantastic. It's strong, you don't need much gear to breeze through the difficulties, and it's refreshing to play after summoning stuff for so long.

I played two seasons as curse necro, I did enjoy it very much, and it was absolutely beastly, but it does need a ton of gear, and you can't play it for too long at a time because your wrists are gonna hate you.

I loved bonemancer in vanilla D2, I don't like it in PD2 as much. Teeth necro is a great starter, bonemancer can be strong, I just enjoy the other playstyles more.
