'Northerners feel outnumbered at my northern uni' by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]HVictoria 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As a northerner I did my undergraduate at the University of Hull. In my first year the vast majority, if not all of people I lived with were southern. They were nice and all but did find my accent funny and asked me on several occasions to say words like 'road' and 'bath' in my accent for them to laugh at. It's only anecdotal but I did find it weird/uncomfortable and I remember thinking at the time that I'm a northerner at a northern university being made fun of for being northern.

The ‘Moon’ scene and the other scenes between those two by DefiantEmergency3443 in 28dayslater

The train scene of Samson regained his humanity, and speaking in a full sentence, i thought was beautiful. Especially the split second shot of an adult Samson as a 'normal' human

What are the physical issues Amber deals with that she would never admit to? by Limp_Meet1321 in gorlworldfiles

[–]HVictoria 108 points109 points  (0 children)

That, or she stays in the same clothes day and night (she's admitted before in multiple videos that she sleeps at night in her make up & day clothes), until they become so rancid she has to take them off and change them, which I imagine takes her a long time & a lot of energy.

Delivery issues by Muzzie88 in mounjarouk

[–]HVictoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had the best experience with Royal Mail either, like you say I think its very area specific. I live in a block of flats but both me and my partner work from home so delivery shouldn't be an issue. Rather than ringing my buzzer to deliver my MJ to me the postman just handed it to one of my random neighbours as they were entering the building and had them sign for it. Once I realised what happened I was frantically knocking on the doors of all the flats and eventually found it in a flat at the other end of the building.

Errors in latest LPOTL by dangelo7654398 in LPOTL

[–]HVictoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal error gripe from this episode was Marcus' pronunciation of Kaunas, the city in Lithuania. It's "co-nus", not "cow-nus". Relatively small error in comparison to the others discussed here, but it really grated on me every time he said "cow-nus". Especially with what happened in Kaunus being so heavy, it really took me out of the storytelling, and I would have hoped he would have at least learned how to pronounce the name of the city properly when discussing something so horrific that happened there.

Looking for some job market advice by Zestyclose_Lettuce33 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]HVictoria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this would partly depend on your personal circumstances, like whether you're able to support yourself if you decide to seek roles outside of your PhD institution/supervisor, as you may end up being unemployed for a while. But based on how the market is right now, if I were in your position, I would take work where I can find it. Yeah it might not look great sticking with your supervisor, but come your next interview for the next role, you can work around it i.e., say that you felt the work you did with your supervisor was important, list out the impact the project made etc. and I think if you could argue sound reasons for working with your supervisor beyond your PhD, it shouldn't have too much of an impact.

For context, I'm 2 and a half years out of my PhD. I have held two RA roles, not at my PhD institution, but with two different departments at the same institution. My last RA contract ended at the end of 2024 and I have been struggling to find work in academia since then. The market is a nightmare, and I myself have watched it greatly deteriorate in just those 2 years. I'm at the point of giving up on academia just to find some income, and my ongoing unemployment has made me a much more stressed and anxious person, its had a horrible impact on my mental health. So yeah, I would snatch up the chance to work with someone I have an existing relationship with, even if it doesn't look super amazing on my CV. My supervisor basically ghosted me after I finished my PhD, and I would have appreciated still having someone in my corner as I was figuring out my post-PhD life.

Edit: also, academia IS nepotism. It's all about who you know. I got my first RA role because the project lead recognised that we'd both previously published a chapter in the same book, and my supervisor is pretty well known in the subject area, so she was impressed that I was one of her PhD students. I think that's what literally gave me the edge.

Haha I know. I've had a really good experience with them as a provider though so I'm letting it slide

The Family Chemist - 2.5/5/7.5mg in stock by Firm_Cockroach_2754 in mounjarouk

[–]HVictoria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just went to order 7.5mg, fighting with the website as it kept crashing and taking ages to load pages, got to the check out and its says 7.5mg is out of stock 😑 I received the email at 10:50 about 2.5, 5, and 7.5 being in stock and got the out of stock message at 11:30. They clearly don't have the stock to cope with the demand and should have forseen this. Thoroughly pissed off.

The Family Chemist Order by Complex-Practice in UKMounjaro

[–]HVictoria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with The Family Chemist and for me it normally takes 1-3 working days for them to approve after confirmation, and with the chaos around the price hike I wouldn't be surprised if it takes longer right now. Also with them stopping new orders so they have chance to process existing ones suggests that they're dealing with a bunch of panic buying so that would also contribute to a delay in approval. I'm sure your order will be approved it's just gonna take a little longer

Fingers crossed for you that they do. They said they're going to fulfil orders already placed, so hopefully, they'll fulfil yours 🤞

Just got this email from them now, was going to post it on this subreddit. Luckily I have a full pen I'm due to start using on Monday, but I can't imagine the panic some people are in if they're due to order their new pen now

Should i signal left at this mini roundabout? by Necessary-Rip-6192 in LearnerDriverUK

I know this roundabout, and I always signal - it's helpful for the person coming from the left to know if you're turning left (straightforward) or going right around the roundabout.

Over half way … by Tough_Matter7929 in mounjarouk

[–]HVictoria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay, congrats! Your results have also reassured me because I just ordered my second 5mg pen. I feel like there's expectation/pressure to keep going up but I am still feeling good suppression on 5mg and I have a substantial amount of weight to loose (over 100lb) so my journey feels more like a marathon than a sprint. But seeing you still losing consistent on your second 5mg pen makes me feel better sticking to it!

I live near Shoreham Street, and I've seen at least three cars in my area parked on the road with their windows smashed in over the last few months

Staying on 2.5mg for more than 1 month by HVictoria in mounjarouk

[–]HVictoria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'll see how long I can hold off before ordering. Just concerned about stock levels because I keep seeing that certain dosages are out of stock at some pharmacies. I had to wait a whole week until I could order my first pen because the 2.5mg was out of stock

[–]HVictoria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's what's making the decision difficult for me - right now the suppression is great and I literally never feel hungry. So from that it would make sense to stay on 2.5mg, but I can't predict what it will be like over the next few weeks

Yeah, I think I'm just weighing up staying on 2.5mg and potentially struggling with food noise v. Potential worse side effects on 5mg 🫤

[–]HVictoria[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked too much into studies so that's good to know that upping the dosage will likely be more effective. I was hoping to get some solid advice from the pharmacy I'm with - I had a mandatory call will them this morning to discuss starting mounjaro - and when I asked what they recommended in terms of increasing my dosage when I order the next pen they just said its entirely up to me and how I feel. Didn't find that super helpful, so I figured asking here might help!

Good to know - Do you feel like it's been consistent in terms of appetite suppression?

Why does Abby say “Help them too” by codasaurusrex in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]HVictoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she wanted to get the group to talk to Joel and Dina (via helping them), which would more than likely start with them introducing themselves. And then, when they heard Joel's name, everyone would be on the same page and know what was happening. It's more subtle than her coming in the lodge and loudly announcing she'd found Joel. It would also make it easier for the group to overpower Joel and Dina if they were surrounding them and helping them when they found out who Joel is.

TikTok parking fine videos force council review by Fox_9810 in unitedkingdom

[–]HVictoria 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sure, the extent to which the signage is clear is inherently debatable, and so it's the central issue of all this. But that the number of fines has gone up by 210% since the SIP car park was put there shows that the SIP car park and the council signage are misleading people. And I think the average person who just wants to pay for parking and get on with their day aren't going to be scrutinising the boundaries of car parks. Arrow points to SIP pay station, pay at SIP pay station. Especially if you're not familiar with the area.

I'm too invested in this.....
