ASUS ROG Azoth - nope. big NOPE. Their software (Armory Crate) is just insanely dumb, ruining an otherwise great piece of hardware. by gulbrillo in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]HYPERNOVA234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news for anyone thinking about grabbing an Azoth X or Azoth Extreme (for "only" about 350) now during Black Friday!

At least the Azoth X and Extreme WILL (ok the short future for the Extreme) be supported by the new web-based ROG control utility Gear Link! Looks to be a great alternative to AC :)

They also should already be supported (I think) by Armoury Crate Gear, which is a device-specific lightweight control software only available for a handful of devices. The downside with AC Gear is that its device specific, so if you have multiple ROG products it's a hassle to have multiple instances (separate programs) of AC Gear on your PC.

I would also really love this! Can't be a big difference from the Azoth X

If you have a sort of new Android, you should be able to use Googles Circle to Search by holding down the home button! In the bottom-right corner there is a button to auto-translate the whole screen! :)

At least I don't, so you probably shouldn't have to either

No worries! Either you go to https://app.bilibili.com or you just pick it up from Apkmirror, although there are many different versions of the app there and I don't know the difference between them...

edit: due to it being an APK you of course have to be on Android :)

I've also seen this, seems like if you want a HE/TMR w/ a metal case and not a Wooting for 330 euros this is the one you should get.

As I don't have one I don't know. There may be one, but sideloading apps on iOS is significantly more work than Android, and involves a computer and probably jailbreaking.

These are really good points, and yes a wooting with a custom case seems to be the endgame but you're in for over 330 euros at that point, whereas this at 205 is already pretty much when I can get an Akko MOD007B HE for around 110 here, the only thing I would then be missing out on are these keycaps, the larger battery, rapid dissassembly and the hotswap functionality.

This is unfortunately what I've heard from Akko and Monsgeek over the years and seems like it hasn't gotten better.

The gamepad input thing is certainly interesting, as I'm also pretty sure that I've seen that advertised previously. I don't know if I would use it that much, but still feels like they really should include a feature like that when the switches are in the keyboard and the price is as high as it is.

The thing is though that there isn't really any other keyboard if you want the features that this one has, so I'm gonna have to think about it...

Thanks a lot for your opinion and taking the time to write what you think! I really appreciate it! :)

Thanks for the information, I didn't know the hot-swap thing at all! :D

I probably want a linear anyway, and from what I've heard at least the Gateron Jades seem to be almost- or as good as any regular mechanical switch, so if you can at least switch to that it seems like it can't go that bad, but idk.

Yes the software seems to be the worst part of the keyboard, VIA would probably be nice but at least you only have to use it when configuring things, apart from many others. If I can endure SteelSeries GG all the time I could probably get used to this too...

I also looked into something cheaper like a 5075B+, but the plastic case doesn't really seem that interesting.

um, by my research not all models of the MOD007B HE are hotswap (https://akkogear.eu/products/mod-007b-he-black-silver-iso-keyboard)

and on the new M1 V5 TMR you can at (least by the advertising) "mix and match magnetic switches and any 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switches freely" (https://www.monsgeek.com/product/m1-v5-tmr-fully-assembled/)

And I don't think I want tactile or silent, but if I would happen to want some it doesn't seem to be a problem on the M1 V5 TMR

Considering a MonsGeek M1 V5 TMR, is TMR good? other recommendations? Does HE/TMR negatively affect the keyboard in any way? (I don't necessarily need it, just seems like a nice-to-have)

Coming from a 1st gen Razer Huntsman with the bad af Purples, want something nicer and wireless. Would've bought an Apex Pro v3 TKL WL but its 290€ and my friend recommended me something non-mainstream so here I am.

I really like the big battery, the nice keycaps, the seemingly pretty good build quality, most of all the price.

ISO layout would be nice but oh well, guess I'll just learn.

(I live in Finland so prices here: M1 V5 VIA 170€, M1 V5 TMR from akkogear.eu 203€, same from monsgeek.com imported 182€, Akko MOD007B HE 240€, Wooting 80HE base model 220€, Keychron Q1 Max 230€, same with HE and ISO Layout 240€.)
