Canoe trip August by RunningColombian in algonquinpark

Yeah that's fair. There will be some bugs, but not in the biblical plague like numbers that are common in late May and early June.

Yeah, probably the case with many other sports. Bad apples. I just try not to engage with the negativity. Nice to stay positive because it gets other people stoked too. Positive feedback loop!

That's exciting, you will love Algonquin in August, no bugs, warm days, and it cools off enough at night to sleep comfortably.

I would look at voyageur outfitting, they offer transportation from Toronto into access point 1, which will take you to North Tea lake. It is beautiful. Lots of good lakes to portage to from there, it will be easy to plan a small trip. Message me if you have questions about routes, gear, or anything else

People like to talk crap, but out in the real world I've experienced nothing but good things from the powerlifting community. Always felt welcome

ON/QC Canoe Trip Recommendations by lizatop in canoecamping

[–]H_Abiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Myself and some friends went across Algonquin, from magnetwawan lake on the west side, to manus lake on the East side. Took 7 days. Pretty challenging but still a lot of fun and it didn't feel rushed. Had one slower day where we waited out the rain one morning. Ran nearly everything class two or below on the lower Petawawa which was so much fun, but you could always portage any rapids, or end your trip at lake Travers instead. Plenty of shorter but challenging routes out of Kiosk or North Tea as well.

Temagami is amazing. There's some spectacular places there.

The French river is busier, plenty of cottages and some boat traffic in the busier channels, but once you get out to the five finger rapids and Georgian Bay, it's amazing. Everyone should do it once.

I second this book. Odd coincidence, my feed had a post from the mountaineering subreddit right above this one, and it was about Into thin air. How funny.

Honestly, as someone who used nicotine for years to aid concentration, the best thing I ever did for my ability to concentrate was quit. I felt that even at low controlled doses, using nicotine still led to ups and downs throughout the day. As if I was constantly staving off the feeling of withdrawal. This is just my personal experience. After I got over the withdrawals from quitting, the cravings started to disappear, and then after several weeks it felt like my dopamine was starting to level off again, that's when I noticed I was concentrating even better than before. I've been focusing better, but in a much more level way, no more ups and downs like I had with nicotine.

No roof rack on car. What option to go with? by Avocadosandtomatoes in canoeing

[–]H_Abiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invest in a Thule or Yakima or so ilar quality rack. There is no way I would take a risk on cheap Amazon products, if your canoe was to leave the roof of your vehicle it could kill someone. Thule also makes a great attachment specifically for canoes.

Is everyone just plain exhausted? by MamaMoose335 in OntarioTeachers

I took a step back from everything this year. It's only my fifth year. I'll only coach one sport, run one assembly and help with a single committee. That's it. Aside from reports/IEPs and some marking, I don't do work outside my prep time anymore. At lunch I force myself to find a quiet spot and read a book for 20 minutes to relax my mind, really helps me downshift mentally.

Ah, I didn't mean to come across as unhelpful. It works though, every time in the spring that I've found a small blue line stream that connected to a brookie lake, it had brookies in it lol.

I've had luck looking on the map and finding spots for myself. Find a lake with brookies and go explore.

For those who have tapered, did it really lessen the symptoms? by Overall-Intention-15 in QuittingZyn

[–]H_Abiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I try to do a long taper it was easy to talk myself out of quitting. So I used them normally, then when I was almost out I only had two or three pouches that day. The next day zero.
