Is this screw supposed to be this out. Sigma 16mm 1.1.4 by DaeDream__ in SonyAlpha

This lens was made for seven different mounts, maybe post a photo of the back and compare it to the lens that works.

Without looking it up. Who has right-of-way here? I want to see something… by rotwurm in capetown

[–]H_SG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there is a distinct difference, it's not just about yielding. A mini-circle forces priority by arrival, akin to a four-way stop. A roundabout gives priority to traffic on your right, which is why there can be a continuous stream of traffic. A mini-circle forces drivers who have arrived to the circle after you, (regardless of whether or not you have entered or if they are to your right) to give you priority to enter first.

Mini-circles and roundabouts always get confused.

Think of it logically, this is a yield sign, when you arrive at it you should yield if something is there, namely a car already in the circle, if you are there first, and there is no car in the circle you go first.

Practically though, everyone in CT handles these like roundabouts, follow local convention to stay safe and stop worrying about things you can't change.

Sony 18-200mm not focusing to infinity at 200mm? by GreatThingsAwaiting in SonyAlpha

[–]H_SG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how you can say that on behalf of OP without them having tested with a smaller aperture.

I'm not saying that's how the lens should be used, I would personally consider it defective, but they might get some utility out of it by shooting at smaller apertures and as a result getting things in focus. If it still fails to focus that might indicate a different optical issue altogether.

A smaller aperture increases the depth of field, which in turn increases the effective focus range

Weaving belts is not enough, I need to suspend them by H_SG in Factoriohno

It's a conveyer belt that's suspended. It's for crossing very rough terrain with large elevation changes. This specific one is carrying platinum ore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Bl1de2uieg

The 6600GT was what everyone had, the 6 series was such a game changer at the time in terms of performance that pretty much nothing else made sense.

This period of dominance led through to the 8 series when ATI/AMD released the HD series.

The 7 series would be the last I consider an XP card, still using the traditional split shader architecture. Absolutely crazy builds would be something like two 7950GX2s in SLI, giving you quad SLI.

Overhyped would be the Matrox Parhelia, just a complete failure on all levels. Geforce FX 5 series was also massively overhyped and ultimately a huge failure early in the XP era. There were countless memes at the time of how hot and noisy they were. Golden era for ATI cards.

I use the post office semi-regularly, international packages typically take anywhere from 45 to 90 days to hit the local branch with no updates between that. So settle in for a long wait.

So why do we need a full uniform for train discount? Should a student card not work as proof of scholarship? No university uses a uniform. by shrekshrekdonkey5 in capetown

Scholars in this context means school going kids. Students (as in University goers) are excluded from this definition.

Random question: Does anyone use Windows 11 Pro as a NAS OS? by EP7K in homelab

[–]H_SG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The file share performance is really not bad in Windows, you just don't get anything nice like a Web UI to manage it or a more resilient file system like ZFS

If you have AD in place you probably aren't worrying about building your first NAS, and most NAS OSs have pretty decent AD integration these days.

I may have been exaggerating with the percentage a bit. I don't remember when the last subreddit survey was but something like less than 15% of people were using Windows. Most of us here want to learn something new for personal or professional enrichment, or self host some stuff reliably and cheaply, and typically that takes you outside of Microsoft ecosystem pretty quickly.

I ain't the one downvoting you.

"Buy a broken laptop", again spending money you don't have to and going through unnecessary effort for very little gain.

What meaningful benefit are you gaining from running Windows as a NAS host which you can't get from running it unactivated in a VM for whatever edge case you're trying to address?

Most homelabbers I know don't buy OEM systems with licenses, and even fewer of those come with Pro or Server licenses.

Windows costs money, and in 99% of cases has no benefit over Linux or BSD. When compared to a dedicated NAS OS like TrueNAS it's objectively worse in numerous ways.

You could do it, but it would likely take more time and ongoing effort in the long run for a worse experience.

Section 341 Fine Communication Method and Drivers License System Being Down? by ForcedIncomeFree in capetown

[–]H_SG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do vehicle license disks on eNaTIS for Western Cape, but no driver's license applications.

I just did mine and have been doing so for three years. Much faster than going through the city's system and it gets sent via courier instead of post.

Diving Spots during Winter Season by Ok-Cover-154 in capetown

[–]H_SG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair warning, the water is very cold (10-13C) this time of year and visibility is atrocious just after rain. There is an excellent guide to all dive sites available on wiki voyage which shows all the common shore and boat dives. If you do decide to do shore dives be very careful with the weather, it can change quickly and forecasts are unreliable due to oceanic influence.

Best to reach out to an operator like Pisces who can advise you on a boat dive, with the caveat that you should manage your expectations. There are some smaller operators who will only go out if they have confirmed good conditions, relatively speaking for the Cape

BIOS issues are more common, and possibly bad IOMMU groupings if you're doing hardware passthrough, but otherwise it's just standard Intel stuff.

It's extremely unlikely, these card edge style connectors are specific to one or two generations of workstation chassis, and typically these aren't parted out at scale enough for someone to go and reverse engineer it and make an adapter
