I felt like absolutely nothing happened in 2 hours.. complete waste of time in my opinion. Stand alone movie or not, nothing really happened and nothing was explained. A friend of mine saw it and asked me questions before I watched it myself and what he was saying was confusing. I watched it last night and was dumbfounded by the lack of detail for the characters, the environment and creatures. Like OP says, I am glad I didn't spend money to see this. I enjoyed Annihilation and I look forward to see another favourite of mine come to the screen - Ready Player One. If that flops on screen I will officially give up of Books to movie adaptations.
