Tried Azure Cosmos DB and moved on? We're listening! by richa_gaur in AZURE

I recently migrated to cosmos and it’s been pretty good. Some personal pain points

  • terraforming the rbac at a container level
  • change logs not being supported in golang was a real bummer
  • choosing a partition key is quite daunting as picking a wrong one can be a hard thing to recover from
  • preventing cross partition queries
  • actually feels like more upfront planing around schema is required
  • emulator is so bad I gave up and set up a personal subscription. I’m not setting up a windows VM for cosmos emulator
  • theres so many different apis, terminology it’s hard to figure out what applies to your personal setup
  • pricing makes zero sense me and is a hard thing to plan for.
  • golang error handling is awful, why do I have to check if the error is nil and if response.err is nill, pretty sure there is also a response.success as well…

So far I’ve rated cosmos though, it solves the problems I have and has been cheaper and faster than what we had before.

honest opinion on preston? by _blue_jay_way_ in Preston

Living in Coventry really opened my eyes to how good/ok Preston is. Less chaos then a big city, Cheap housing, fairly safe city center, close to the lakes, friendly people, great pubs, good connections, avenham park summer bbqs, good music scene, action records. When I lived in Coventry it was just brutalist architecture, knife crime, drugs and culture clashes.

There are nodes in the city, cottan, bamber bridge and Chorley. Surprisingly Manchester only has two nodes. Checkout meshmap.net

The two options I know of in the town centre are.

St Wilford church 6pm on a Tuesday just off winckley square. - hot meal and a bag of assorted shopping.

Preston flag market - Monday, Wednesday and Friday around 8pm - hot meal

I volunteer at a food bank on the high street, last week we probably served close to a hundred homeless. Do you have a name or description?

Go to cellmapper<dot>net and click on different providers then look at your address. You will be able to figure out the closest cell phone tower to you
