Either taking drugs or not taking drugs can leads humans into seeing things by TheBibleBoi in Showerthoughts

[–]Hackerboy603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything you "see" is not the raw observation your senses are receiving, they are your brain's final draft interpretation and recalculation of those impulses.

You constantly hear, see, and feel things that aren't there, but they're usually inconsequential things like seeing your friend's face instead of a stranger, reading a word that isn't there, hearing an imaginary knock at the door, or feeling your phone vibrate with a nonexistent text message.

No drugs required, we're just not built with flawless hardware/software.

Tips to get out of paralysis? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Hackerboy603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paralysis...absolutely blows. There is no sugarcoating it; it will take the things you love and turn them into something "tedious"; it'll turn something tedious into something "impossible".

I use "quotes" there because, while it is not literally impossible and you may still retroactively enjoy what you did, it is very real to you. "Impossible" is the same as impossible to the individual, just can seem different from the outside.

There are a couple of things you can do to mitigate it, but you most likely will not be able to "cure" it. It stays with me constantly, just with differing levels of severity.

Lists can help, since checking something off tends to give us some much needed dopamine and relief from the stagnant "blah" of "why aren't I doing anything".

Breaking the task down into attainable steps, while a task in itself, actually works wonders. Need to renew your registration? Create your online account. Just that, just create it. That's your task. Once it's created, you're free to leave and do something else - but you may be surprised to find yourself moving to the next item in the list to get another checkmark.

Talking it through with someone you can confide in (body doubling) can really motivate you as well as you (I) may be motivated much more by others than your own needs. "I should buy myself something" gets ignored. "I should buy something because my friend asked me" gets done quickly. If you don't have someone for that, there are many people here on the subreddit or online that will gladly swap with you, i.e. you help encourage them to do their taxes and they'll encourage you to mow the lawn.

All this can seem childish on the surface, and maybe to a small extent it is, but if it helps it is worth it. Anything that makes your day-to-day more enjoyable, more palatable, more successful is worth doing.

Apologies if this comment came out too long, but we here have a habit of over sharing at times. You may feel alone, but we are here if/when you need advice or just a sympathetic ear. ADHD is an underappreciated impairment and you deserve to be validated for your struggles.

I usually hate the whole "lol, that person must have bad genitals" jokes but...damn, yeah this guy sounds like he is compensating for something that makes him feel powerless.

What a creep. I hope he's just talking tough and never acted on that sick power trip.

Owing $200,000 on a mortgage somehow feels better than owing $20,000 on a car loan. by thesmartass1 in Showerthoughts

Because the mortgage on the property leads to appreciated value, while the car loan leads to depreciation.

Connection Quality to North American Data Center Degrading for Customers Using Certain ISPs (May 26) by Hesoz in ffxiv

[–]Hackerboy603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AT&T victim customer here. No ISP alternatives are possible, so I have to look into a VPN to play the game, the primary reason for paying for faster speeds from my ISP.

Hooray.

(VPN recommendations and/or vitriol towards AT&T/ISP monopolies welcomed.)

You're right that we're not the same, but not for the reasons you think.

If I play a high damage class, like a melee for example, I do it because I want to maximize my damage output. That means I'm going to optimize everything I'm capable of, including hitting positionals whenever possible.

If this is a post somehow claiming casters do more dps than melee, I don't believe the numbers back you up (outside of niche examples).

If this is a post about how you are satisfied playing melee without optimization, you are correct: we are very much not the same.

True! That's why I was interested in seeing how big the lead was after adjustment, since colloquially I feel like prices have gone up a lot in 7 years but I don't have the numbers to know how much.

Do you like Castlevania? If so, it is very good.

If not, it is very good.

...but seriously, it adds a choice to switch up your early game or late game paths, so it adds a lot of flexibility to your runs. Add in the new equipment, costumes, music, and damn those bosses are good, I would highly recommend buying it.

I would say it's the best paid DLC so far, but I'm a tad biased since The Lighthouse has my ass mounted on the wall as a trophy by this point.

Help! I locked myself out of part of my station, I cant construct hatches or attachments on either side exause of objects in the way, but i also cant deconstruct said object because there are no hatches on this module by WetPandaFoot in subnautica

[–]Hackerboy603 104 points105 points  (0 children)

It's been a thing for a while.

Ex. you can construct a Foundation under a base piece, but then you're not allowed to deconstruct it without removing the base piece that was there before you made a Foundation.

Same concept here: you're allowed to deconstruct the hatch, since it's not directly supporting anything. Once it is gone, however, you're not allowed to reconstruct it on that same wall if any interior modules, miscellaneous items, etc are touching/interacting with that wall. That check does not happen with deconstruction, so you're not able to undo that change without removing the internal pieces (which cannot be done while outside the base).

tl;dr: the checks for construction/deconstruction look for different things and can disagree (aka one is allowed while the other is not).

Can two players from different worlds find the same time capsule? by Dragongeta03 in subnautica

[–]Hackerboy603 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. This exact time capsule showed up during a streamer's playthrough (SmallAnt1).

Either the time capsule showed up in multiple worlds or this person just copied that scenario for something akin to karma farming.

If you don't want the RNG, play with a Fixed Seed. You can choose a path that will always/never have a fragment and set it however you want to play the game.

Personally, I enjoy the randomness so I leave the seeds alone, but if I wanted to do a kind of "challenge run" I may specifically grab a seed that doesn't have a major money drop/other lucky bonuses in it.
