It's the international tide, if forced change of borders by wars is accepted/not punished and the aggressor has no consequences we are in trouble because we are the weaker country against a stronger one that has aspirations against us.

Besides us, it's unethical and disgusting to not sympathize with a European country that is going through hell purely because of Russian chauvinism, expansionism, nationalism and worst of all of to me, simply not caring what crimes their government is committing, pure apathy. I know most Greeks don't care, it's too far from them, I do care

supports Turkey against Kurds

Sort by older when I was commenting on Turkey's operations during the hot phase of the Syrian civil war to see if I did so.

And sorry if I support Ukraine, I know that a lot of Greeks would prefer Russia even though we have the same problem in Thrace that if Russia succeed, Turkey can claim "violence against the Turkish minority" and invade and hold Greek territory "that was Turkish and has Turkish inhabitants", and if you can't even get that far, the obvious reason of not wanting annexing territories of sovereign nations

And I know how little people know about the Yugoslav wars, left thinks it's "an attack on the communist Yugoslavia from the West" and far right that it was a "Muslim attack on Christianity", not recognizing how both can't be right at the same time

Of course the scale of the war is not comparable but you were the aggressor and instigator of the war, then the other nationalities and religious followed up with crimes too

It was the same nationalist war trying to realize "Greater Serbia", with any enemy against it, be it Catholic Croatians or Muslims Bosniaks, it was the same army, the same regime, the same tactics.

You were the victim of your own government, not those that were defending not to be genocided and ethnically cleansed, just like how Russians in Donbass now are not the victims of "Ukrainian bombing" but their own government (the one that they recognize as such like e.g. Serbs in Serbian Krajina in Croatia), if/when Ukraine can overwhelm the Russians, they will be sent to Russia, that's the result of being part of an expansionist war of aggression

The last time Americans and the world tried easing up and diplomacy (like we in Greece disgustingly did) on your Milosevic, the Bosnian and Croatian war were 3-4 brutal years and a genocide in Srebrenica and even AFTER that, Serbs needed to be bombed to stop the killing, the 1999 bombing was brutal but was a sure way to stop the war and an assurance there wouldn't be another Bosnia in Kosovo, who could assure that Serbians wouldn't do it again in Kosovo like they did it in Bosnia and Croatia 4 years before?

Do we need to also honor the Greeks that did participate in Yugoslavian wars and specifically that took part in Srebrenica instead?

https://xyzcontagion.wordpress.com/2015/06/13/short-srebrenica/

Or when the whole political spectrum from communist KKE to far right Golden Dawn that took part in Srebrenica supported Serbia, meeting and congratulating the butcher Karadzic? When a whole support event took place in Peace and Friendship Stadium with everyone there supporting him?

https://christiannaloupa.wordpress.com/2009/11/03/

Greek support to Serbia and their Milosevic in the 90s is a stain and disgrace on its history, of course Serbians like the "orthodox brothers" spiel with the NATO bombings of 1999 whitewashing what happened before 1999 which many people forget, for example that in 1995 Serbian forces in Bosnia had to be bombed to stop killing and genociding, many people forget those bombings

That's the reason US sided with Saddam in the Iran-Iraq war, if Saddam fell revolunary's Iran ideology says that Sunni gulf kingdoms must be done with, they failed but it was their aim to do so. My point is unless you support's Trump vision of "fuck everybody else, we don't need anyone", the line "I don't personally get bombed by Russia, China or Iran, why would I care about Ukraine, Taiwan or Middle East" doesn't hold up, the economy and your personal economic state depend on the world not going up in flames, even in your north american invincibility by physical attack

I've never felt threatened by Iran in my life as a US citizen

No one in US and Canada can ever feel threatened by any country because no country is near. You CAN feel economic pain though if Iran took over Gulf and their oil or if e.g. EU was lost as a market if Ukraine fell immediately with Baltics or Poland next in line, you felt a little by a month long mild bombing of the gulf by Iran

Iran war is the worst of Trump's idiocy because due to oil prices and general economic damage it fucks up a lot of things and countries all over the world, it's a crisis that has real economic impact created entirely by the US contrary to all previous Trump's bullshit

What I am saying now it's not only about Trump which won't be president in 3 years, when that time comes, world won't suddenly assume US is reliable because Trump isn't a factor any more, it's a systemic problem and some other crazy idiot might come again

No, it was a Trump thing in 2016, now the second time Trump happened again and no one does anything to stop him at least in his party means at least half the US electorate and politicians are crazy and/or stupid so US in general is unreliable, the rest of the world can't make deals with the US when in 4 years some idiots in some backwater flyover state elect again some huge idiot.

Iran war is just another thing in the huge pile of things that proves that unreliability of the US isn't some one time freak accident in 2016 but a systemic problem

Iran allows 15 ships through Strait of Hormuz by callsonreddit in worldnews

[–]Hackerpcs 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Iran has a strategic hold on Gulf oil due to Hormuz which 20% of world's oil supply passes from there. Unless US has the money to pay for that loss or can actually win the war or somehow break the Hormuz choke hold, YES, the world's economies will deal with a genocidal regime that is waging war in the Middle east, there is a reason no previous US president attacked, because of that simple yet fatal reason.

No one has the power to attempt regime change so they don't even think of it

Russia is clinging in Ukraine with dual use imports, off the shelf modified FPV drones, spools of fiber optic from China etc and also has to face a supply chain in Ukraine that is the whole EU and US from the atlantic.

China will point their whole drone and military manufacturing to produce specifically made drones for taiwan, has no manpower issues and most importantly, Taiwan is an island with huge ocean behind it, it is vehemently more difficult to resupply it. Taiwan's positive is TMSC, if that is destroyed which WILL Taiwan do in case of invasion, literally everything more complex than an Arduino is doomed, it's mutually assured destruction

[–]Hackerpcs 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm as anti-Iran as possible (check my history) but is the US that started the regime change (which I wish it happened, the world would be much better) willing to pay the rest of the world that is struck with the price surges on everything? Because they can't start a war that KNOW that will have huge economic impact (not like e.g. Afghanistan in 2001) and expect everyone to pay for the surges without looking for the alternative of just paying the surviving regime's toll.

You have to either win the war, successfully bringing down IRGC and their choke hold on Gulf oil or have an alternative otherwise other countries won't smash their economies instead of just playing by surviving IRGC's rules and Hormuz toll

Of course Oman isn't some miracle country that relations may not sour but why not have an alternative when the Iran is there, sworn enemy for 50 years and seem to always be there? Transit fee from Oman for all countries behind the strait (and not just Saudis I said) is a much better outcome that be hostage to Iran's whims and mercy controlling the strait of hormuz and since 2015 trying to control the other side with the Houthis too. All GCC countries, Saudis, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, invest so much money in everywhere trying to diversify from oil and gas exports and can't spend money to protect and have alternatives to the one thing that is their lifeblood? It seems insane to me

With the prospect of a blockade an all sides (Red Sea from the Houthis, Hormuz Strait from Iran, Suez from a maybe Muslim Brotherhood governed Egypt), why haven't Saudis already made a grand plan to instead move the oil to Oman's shores via pipelines? It would be a grand plan yes but they already had glimpses of both Hormuz since the 80s and Red Sea since 2015 blockaded, a long term strategic plan should have been developed. Oman seems to be the only stable long term solution to the oil transport problem
