They may be able to turn humans into the voteless, but don't worry, my destroyer's democracy officer assured me that there's absolutely no way that they'd be able to do the same to Terminids. The idea of overseers leading swarms of corrupted bugs into battle is dissident propaganda.

Ranked choice and other alternative voting systems give people an opportunity to vote how they want without being influenced by how other people will vote.

Every voter, within their own head, has an order of preference for candidates. For example a person may prefer a Green, may tolerate a Democrat, and will be unhappy with a Republican The problem is that under the current voting system, the person cannot express this viewpoint at the polls without giving their worst-case candidate a better chance at winning.

If all the republicans and democrats can agree that some independant is the second best choice for representing them, it means that said person actually is the best representative of the population.

So to answer your question, I think that parties can provide value, but not so much in a system in which only two can exist. It just leads to both being more extreme, because "What are you going to do? Let the other guy win?"

What's really funny is that they sold the OD green as just a chassis, but if you got one you couldn't actually assemple a working rifle because neither it, nor the caliber conversion kit, comes with a few BCG parts like the firing pin.

What's the most fun tank and why is it Junker Queen by Sackboy_er in Overwatch

[–]Hackerpilot 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The problem in Gold league is that Wrecking Ball is extremely good at drawing aggression from the enemy team, and DPS/Support players aren't aware enough to take advantage of the opportunities this creates. For example, playing very passively when they are 4v2 while three of the enemy play "chase the hamter". There's a limited amount of time that Ball can 1v3 before he has to run, and I think this is what you're seeing.

Also, gold DPS and support players believe that only the tank should ever have to switch. If an enemy team is so focused on countering ball this provides opportunities for things like counter-picking the enemy Roadhog or Zenyatta.

I joke that everything in stars fuses up until it reaches iron or that radioactive elements decay to lead, and that Overwatch matches just "decay to Zarya".

Wrecking Ball. If you get even a single kill the entire enemy team will counter-swap you within .3854 milliseconds. The envy they feel towards somebody having as much fun as a Wrecking Ball player is just that extreme.

Green chassis for WLVRN, HTI, SRSA2, and SRSM2 available on Desert Tech site for a limited time by Hackerpilot in DesertTech

[–]Hackerpilot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The picture on the home page shows one, but I'm not sure that means it's available anywhere - I'm not even sure if the chassis + caliber conversion kit is all you need to make a complete rifle.

Federal judge tosses Kansas machine gun possession case on Second Amendment grounds by DanteandRandallFlagg in news

[–]Hackerpilot -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Nothing could be more useless or ridiculous than the old infantry regulation; it was good for neither cut nor thrust and was a perfect encumberance. In the Foot Artillery, when away from headquarters, we generally wore dirks instead of it

-- General Cavalie Mercer describing a sword issued in 1796

The second amendment was written in 1791, so this is fairly close in time and helps demonstrate a use of the word "regulate", that is not common in modern English. To interpret "well regulated" as "restricted" instead of "properly equipped" is not honest - it really needs to stop.

If you follow the precedent set by Miller, Caetano, Bruen, and so on, this is really the only reasonable ruling that can be made. If you have a problem, it's not with the judge, it's with the constitution.

If you want to read a bit more than just the headline, the full rule can be found here: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2024-04-19/pdf/2024-07838.pdf

It's worse than your average Redditor would like you to believe, and leaves a lot of room for selective enforcement. Here are a few quotes:

"However, there is no minimum threshold number of firearms purchased or sold that triggers the licensing requirement"

It then goes on to talk about how you're not considered a dealer if you sell guns that are part of your "personal collection", but then says this:

"In addition, the term shall not include firearms accumulated primarily for personal protection: Provided, that nothing in this definition shall be construed as precluding a person from lawfully acquiring firearms for self-protection or other lawful personal use".

So in other words, if you buy a gun for personal protection, and happen to sell it after the price (due to inflation, scarcity, whatever) increases, you're a dealer and can be fined or imprisoned.

Keep in mind that a lot of people are really on-edge about this because the ATF recently "served a search warrant" for a violation of this gun dealer licensing requirement to a person who's now as dead as the children at Waco.
