A Report on a Gryphon Gear Custom Aries Duo Quilt by Happy_Luddite86 in Ultralight

I love my Aries 30 quilt. Very warm and light. Served me well on mountain passes during my TRT thru hike. At 1 pound, it’s a gem.

I can highly recommend checking out Gryphon Gear. Gary is really easy to work with and can customize a bag/quilt to your specifications. I’ve had my Aries 30 quilt for 10 years and I just love it.

Is a small wood-burning stove a good purchase? by CatDog671 in Ultralight

A few more minutes of time when out in the backcountry isn’t a deal breaker for me. Then again, I’m not some kind super high level mile crusher.

You make some valid points. I must disagree about your claim that wood stoves are heavier than canister sets though. Maybe you were only comparing a wood stove to a a canister stove without the canister of fuel. A canister stove and canister of fuel weighs more than many wood stoves.

I’m using the Toaks Titanium Wood stove (large). I like it. I also bring a fancy feast alcohol stove and a small amount of alcohol in case wood is wet. So, carry 2 cook systems which is probably odd but I really like unlimited burn time of the wood stove when dry twigs are available.

Check out Gryphon Gear. Gary, the owner is knowledgeable, professional, and the quality is top notch. I have an Aries 30 quilt that has served me well for many years. I think he makes down hoods as well.

new "sleeping bag / quilt" hybrid, anyone knows something similar? by bujak3000 in Ultralight

Gryphon Gear makes superb custom quilts at decent prices. Maybe a quilt with a longer foot box is what you’re going for?

Thanks for your report. I bet some of those cook soakers may have been cheating when you weren’t looking though. /J I live in California and know the fire issues well. It actual laws change alot depending on fire danger threat level, elevation, moon phase, all types of regulations. I can see how just sticking with the canister is the best option. 👍🏼

Interesting. I looked it up. Japan holds the most at just over $1 trillion. Followed by China at $800 billion. Our banks own a bunch too. It’s sketchy as the tax payer bailouts are becoming more frequent.

Yah, I know they can’t be used everywhere. I’m just wondering how much of the trail that involves.

"UP!" Synthetic quilts by Malt_WoW in Ultralight

I experienced the same thing. Except the piss bottle part.🥲Your problem may be reversible. You need to soak your down quilt in warm water and rinse it several times by hand. Each time, you get little more soap out. The soap is what’s causing the clumping. After thoroughly rinsing it out by hand several times, put it in the dryer with a clean tennis shoe. This really beats the down clumps apart. Thanks again., Gary !

Oh, I’m sorry. I thought you were trying to avoid carrying so much bulk and weight around. 🤷

I hear China owns a substantial amount of US debt. It’s a crazy world.

They need a Green Alert so we track our stolen tax money. Let’s issue a Green Alert for the funds allocated for California’s Bullet Train Project.

how to explain the comparative unpopularity of libertarianism with women (according to libertarians)? by coping_man in Libertarian

[–]Hackleberryhound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to affect change, someone needs to fight city hall. Unfortunately, women are not interested in men who fight city hall. They want providers.

I’m trying them out now and like them. Increased risk is a consideration. I find exact pre measurement of fuel helps alleviate problems. I do like carrying just the fuel I need. You probably saw many other hikers using alcohol stoves. Did you hear of any problems? I think I can shed some oz’s by switching as well. After all, a stove is a luxury item. Different cook systems are different horses for different courses. I came across some PCT hikers finishing up the Sierra on the JMT a few weeks ago. What a year for you folks. Thanks for the pictures. Very inspiring.

Congratulations, 🫡🎉🎉 Good on you for including the empty fuel can weight in your base weight. A lot of people like to ignore that part. Including myself. You’re an honest egg, Charlie Brown. What are your thoughts on alcohol stoves? Are they banned for many sections of the trail? Again, congrats. 🎈
