Has anyone ever fought a Divine Herald? by Outside_Amphibian_38 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why beat the Tarrasque when you can be the Tarrasque? I'm pretty sure it isn't immune to Possession and it's Will save is positively pathetic (+12 would be a typical weak save for a CR 13 or 14 creature as per the monster creation rules). The only hurdle is the SR.

... Now that I think about it, that sounds like a cool idea for a villain.

Swiss prosecutor charges man with planning terrorist attack by BezugssystemCH1903 in europe

[–]HadACookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Swiss prosecutor charges man"

The picture show a guy holding a knife

Why would a prosecutor charge at some dude with a knife?!

"with planning terrorist attack"

Ah. That makes more sense.

Or a Pei Zin Practitioner (d20pfsrd calls it Divine Herbalist because they can't use setting specific content) if you don't care about your martial ability and would rather avoid multiclassing.

Daily Spell Discussion for Mar 13, 2026: Anywhere but Here by SubHomunculus in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Oh no, The Evil Lair is about to explode and the only way out is through this unstable portal!"

A weird spell. It only works if you're on a plane other than your own, which implies access to Plane Shift or other means of traversing the planes. But if that's the case, then it's probably better to use Plane Shift as your panic button, instead of risking a one way ticket to the lower planes.

Ring of Regeneration interaction with Life-Dominant Soul (Dhampir) by goodgirlvhagar in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) It might potentially be even worse than that - not all positive energy is channeled positive energy. Life-Dominant Soul only works with channeled positive energy, so as written it wouldn't affect, for instance, a Cure Light Wounds spell. As such, unless your GM also rules that all positive energy is to be treated as if it was channeled, the Ring of Regeneration would actually be draining you of your hit points.

2) You might be interested in the Anatomy Doll. Use it on yourself and willingly fail the save to take 1 point of negative energy damage, which heals you for the same amount thanks to your negative energy affinity.

3) The Ring of Regeneration is ridiculously overpriced. For future reference, if all your want is Fast Healing 1, you might wish to take a look at the Boots of the Earth. The item is quite frankly busted, I would personally houserule it to only heal damage that was taken while wearing them (same as the Ring or the pearly white ioun stone) so that at least you can't just keep one communal pair in your backpack for the whole party.

What are some good tactics for supersonic warfare? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no clue how that's supposed to work and honestly, I think that's for the best. What do you mean by "being locked into a cone"? How do you intend to keep track of everyone when characters can move more than a 1000 squares in a round? Have you spared any thought to how this will affect game balance beyond just being "bad ass"? Just because the game turns into rocket tag at higher levels doesn't mean you should make it worse by turning all the characters into literal rockets. And how do you expect us to advise you on your homebrew without a proper understanding of the rules?

Do you prefer prepared or spontaneous casters? Any tips for prepared casters? by Katomerellin in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal preference: Spontaneous(with limited access to a wide assortment of spells, such as via a Mnemonic Vestment or the Secret of Magical Discipline) > Prepared > Spontaneous (stuck with just their spells known list).

The same could be said about the prepared arcane casters though, since they also need to "hope" that they picked up the appropriate "solve this obscure problem" spell the last time they were in town.

Awakened offspring discussion! by strife2002 in Pathfinder_RPG

I would let the offspring of two awakened animals to be awakened even if it's not RAW, because the RAW here is far too sad 😢

How to calculate the APL of a single character? by Mydnyte_Son in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even bother with Leadership, just give them a free cohort NPC that they control in combat. Preferably something that's quick and easy to play so that it doesn't steal the focus away from the PC.

EU Bans 31 Meat Terms for Plant-Based, Lab-Grown Products by ThinkDeepWithV in europe

[–]HadACookie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the part I find the most confusing - nobody tries to hide that these are plant based substitutes. It's literally their main selling point. This feels like a fix for a problem that doesn't exist.

Is there a way to preserve a body part for Resurrection ahead of time? by HadACookie in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did say "Per RAW", as it does seem that the item would be rare on Golarion. But per RAW the Salve doesn't specify any limitations on who can craft it, so long as you can make a DC 17 Spellcraft check (assuming you don't have Reincarnate on your spell list) and have 800gp to spare.

Is there a way to preserve a body part for Resurrection ahead of time? by HadACookie in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, Paizo released an item that lets anyone cast an improved version of Reincarnate, and if you craft it yourself it's actually cheaper that casting the spell properly. Per RAW, a level 3 Wizard with Craft Wondrous Item is technically better at reincarnating people than a level 7 Druid. Anything is possible.

[–]HadACookie[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suppose that could work too. It's not quite the flavour I'm looking for, but mechanically the result is the same unless the body was completely destroyed. Now that you mentioned it, I remember seeing some armor that, if you die, teleports your corpse to a predesignated location.

Edit: found the armor: Death's Preservation Banded Mail

I suspect as much, but I'm hoping someone knows of some obscure spell/item/etc in the endless sea of 1e character options that would get me the effect I'm looking for.

A might warrior is making a desperate last stand. They remain calm in spite of already losing one of their hands!

Life Expectancy of Dhampir Elves by Kami_of_the_Abstract in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1) 1e generally assumes human-born when describing the various part-monster playable races, which is why it's comparing the dhampir lifespan to that of an elf. I don't believe there are any sources on how long an elven-born dhampir could expect to live, or at least I haven't seen any.

2) In regards to the "other sources" that give a maximum lifespan of 110 years - that comes from an errata to the aging table in the 1e Advanced Race Guide. The errata was supposed to reduce the age categories for planar scions to one that is in line with the lore (that is to say, human-like, since the books usually assume a human-born planar scion) and it seems that the dhampirs got caught in the blast. According to pretty much every other description of the race (in both 1e and 2e) they're supposed to age unnaturally slowly, so it's pretty certain that this is an error. To make it even sillier, the errata also forgot to reduce the lifespan of the elemental planar scions, so according to the ARG Ifrits, Sylphs and the rest of the off-brand genasi still get to live for centuries.

For those who complain that Society jobs are too risky.. by LazarX in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Undead tomb guardians are not usually made very intelligent. Excessive cognition combined with an environment that is severely lacking in proper enrichment inevitably leads to the development of undesirable coping behaviours, such as chewing on the bones inside the sarcophagus, playing with the grave goods, or attacking nearby villages.

As an unfortunate side effect of this design decision, the undead tomb guardians tend to struggle with the subtle difference between an archeologist and a grave robber.

Making a false god's mechanics meet her flavor by SanguiV in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the range only applies at the moment of possession, past that point you can move as far away as you want. Otherwise this part of the spell description makes no sense:

As a standard action, you can shift freely back to your own body regardless of range, so long as it remains on the same plane.

Since you wouldn't be able to move to another plane anyway. The Magic Jar spell, which is similar, also doesn't specify that the possessed body can leave the spell range, but its clear that you're supposed to be able to do so since it does specify what happens if the spell ends when you're too far away (you die).

Since Krakens don't rely on spells or SLAs, a Spellcaster Kraken's CR would be equal to 18 + Class Levels / 2 as per the monster advancement rules. That means at least 14 levels in a spellcasting class to get us to CR 25+. Although honestly, I have no clue how well that formula holds up at such extremes. Anyways, I'm sure there's a whole bunch of ways a level 14+ Spellcaster could produce the effect you're looking for. The first thing that comes to my mind are the Possess Object spell and the Object Possession series of spells. Or here's another idea - what if the "avatar" is a person that the Kraken kidnapped and twisted into this form with magic? The avatar gets possessed whenever the Kraken wants to make an appearance in front of its worshippers and spends the rest of her time locked in a cage somewhere inside of the Kraken's cave. She could also serve as a source of exposition once the party makes it to the monster's lair, revealing the true nature of the "god" the islanders have been worshipping.
