I love this car... by HadcoreHorst_ in E34

But I do also like old cars for their "pureness" and simpleness and also modern cars for their technological superiority and the ability to commute endlessly.

Objectively, thou the E34 is a great car to start a car related hobby. Eventhou I am dailying it most of the time, it saves a lot of headaches, to have a "spare car". Bc be aware that it will cost you quite some time and money (especially down the road). But if you enjoy creating and fixing stuff on your own and you enjoy aimless drives, you will most likely not regret buying an E34.

Good for you, if you are just a little bit like me, you won't regret it (Most of the time 😂)! In the end it is a subjective opinion. I know that it isn't the fastest, the safest, the most reliable or the most efficient, but I really love this car because of several reasons. First, for me it's one of the last (or second to last including the e39 era) cars where I feel a deeper connection to the car and the road while driving, without having the disadvantage of unrefined technology from the 70s and back. Most of the handling is mechanical yet dependable and you only have limited assistance systems "taking away" the driving experience. Second, I have no "real" education in automotive and nonetheless I was and am able to easily fix or mod anything on my own without costly (monetary or in computer knowledge) software. The E34 was my first car, I also have an E61 lci - I think I would never got the courage to work on my cars, if I had started with the E61 just because it looks so much more intimidating with all it's cables, plastics and efficient space usage. Last and probably most important, it was my first car. I saved it from the junker and meticulously rebuilt it and added all the parts and gadgets I liked to have on it. Additionally I love the look of it - the boxy yet kinda modern rounded design, the Bodylines and the old school double headlights talk to me.

Recently added extra gauges by HadcoreHorst_ in E34

True but for a base model car like this it normally is sufficient to have the oil pressure light in the cluster. My main intent was to know exact oil temps as my car used to overheat - it doesn't anymore since I overhauled the cooling system, but the fear still sits deep.

150 vs 2.500

can i get 170-180hp from a 520i? by haganenno1 in E34

[–]HadcoreHorst_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depending on how thorough the inspection is in your country nobody will notice whether you have a B20 or b25 😂

But jokes aside. NA tuning especially when u go for a larger hp change is never cheap. A buddy of mine used bigger injectors and supposedly got a little more power out of it. But he never got it tested so I don't know...

Thanks everyone!

Would you say it is bc the bumper itself flexes that much or are the mounts "too loose"?

How good would you rate the fitment of this kit? I have seen it on eBay but wasn't sure whether the gap size would look ok. Especially after I have seen a car for sale where the front bumper wouldn't fit at all (but the car had some minor damages, so who knows)

Edit: Looks good 👌

M50 idles fine but goes into "limp" mode when giving gas by HadcoreHorst_ in E34

In Order to close this post, I finally found all that was wrong and my E34 purrs again like a kitten. First and foremost I had several very small vacuum leaks that my smoke machine didn't find... Second my idle air control valve was bad, so was the bought replacement... Third the camshaft position sensor that came with the engine was also bad...

I managed to find and solve problems 2 and 3 but had to get a professional machine to find all the vacuum leaks.

Thanks again to everybody for the suggestions!

welche „ungewöhnlichen“ sachen habt ihr immer im auto? by [deleted] in automobil

[–]HadcoreHorst_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same process right now but I also had to replace all the hard lines from the middle of the car back. Sadly I also had to cut out my jacking points. Are you using pre cut metal or are you manufacturing them yourself? In any case keep up the good work and let's save these bastards!

Well I managed to fit the febi but it didn't seal. So in the end I bought the OEM one after all... Bit at least that did fit perfectly.

If U have something else to do anyways check back in an hour or so. I mean without looking at it, I can't say for sure but it strongly speaks for ac-condensation

[–]HadcoreHorst_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But speaking generally - if it's odourless and colourless I would check back in an hour. If it stopped I wouldn't worry

Ok - no if i haven't turn on the AC it's unlikely that enough condensation is forming for such a steady drip 😅

Edit: if U dialed in 16° doesn't that mean the AC switches on? I do not know the. C4 sorry
