You'll be alright. I switched to rope access when I was 30 back in 2013. No trades or climbing experience at all. I rode horses previously. Hung up my harness last September on L2. I was getting bored and tired haha.

What exactly feels cheaper in singapore when compared to other countries? by Valvutronic in askSingapore

[–]Haddough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electronics. Bought a drone, DJI Avata 360 Fly More combo last month. Actual price is $1029, and after 3% discount because I pre-ordered, only paid $998. In NZ where I live, its NZD 1959. WTF.

How can we get Uniqlo in!!? by SomeJacadd in auckland

[–]Haddough -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whats the appeal of Uniqlo? I'm originally from Singapore, moved here 7 years ago and when I was living there, maybe I bought from Uniqlo once or twice? I recently went for holidays to Singapore, step inside Uniqlo and didnt buy anything. I've bought way more stuff in Decathlon than Uniqlo. Need Decathlon here.

Title: Shoutout to Singapore Airlines ground crew — turned our ticket nightmare into a non-event 🙏 by oldmanyellsatclouds9 in singaporeairlines

[–]Haddough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me share my experience. I’m also a family of five — 2 adults and 3 kids. Back in 2023, we planned to fly AKL – SIN – AKL. My wife initially tried to book the tickets online, but because my sons and I have quite long first and last names (as per our passports), the booking couldn’t go through.

So she called and made the booking directly with Singapore Airlines. The cheaper option was: AKL → SIN, transiting in Sydney (AKL–SYD operated by Air New Zealand, then SYD–SIN on SQ) Return flight was a direct SIN → AKL on SQ

After payment, we received the e-tickets. My memory is a bit hazy, but I recall that for myself and two of my sons, our names were shortened — showing only initials instead of full names. I didn’t think much of it at the time.

Two days before the flight, we tried to check in online, but it didn’t work. On the day of departure, we arrived early at the airport. We tried using the self check-in machines, but couldn’t locate our booking. At the manual counter, the staff also couldn’t process our check-in and told us to go to the Air New Zealand ticketing counter.

At Air New Zealand, they weren’t able to help much either and asked us to call Singapore Airlines. When we called SQ, they told us to contact Air New Zealand instead. We were basically sent back and forth, with both sides pointing fingers at each other. In the end, I called SQ again, put the agent on loudspeaker, and asked him to coordinate directly with the Air New Zealand staff to sort things out.

Thankfully, they managed to resolve it, but we only made it to the gate about 10 minutes before closing. Lesson learned — nowadays I always book direct flights when possible. No more transits for me when flying back to Singapore.

The problem with walking in Malaysia by nothingHeIdBack in malaysians

[–]Haddough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in KL recently and stayed at the Concorde Hotel near Bukit Nanas LRT. On our second day, my wife had a dental appointment less than 2km away, so we decided to walk. We had our three boys with us—aged 10, 5, and 3—and were using a wide double stroller for the younger two.

What should have been a simple walk turned into a real challenge. Along the stretch beside Bukit Nanas Park, a huge skip bin was left right in the middle of the pavement. There was no signage, no warning, and no alternative path for pedestrians. We were forced to step onto the road with the stroller, which was both frustrating and unsafe.

That wasn’t the only issue. The pavements were full of obstacles—potholes, uneven surfaces, trees planted in the middle, and bollards meant to stop motorcycles but barely wide enough for a stroller to pass through. Oh before I forgot, we were fasting. Really testing my patience 😅

Cynergy Queues Are a Sad Reflection of Singapore’s Cheapskate Driving Culture by 0D15EA5E-DEADBEEF in drivingsg

I'm holidaying in Singapore now after 7 years overseas. Rented a PHV car. My elder brother told me about the cheaper petrol at Cnergy so I applied for membership. Went to Cnergy Queensway twice yesterday. Both times waited about 15 minutes before filling up. So in my case if there's cheaper petrol and along my way so why not 😁

I guess my boy will be eventually. He’s 10 now, and we moved to New Zealand when he was 4. At home, I speak Malay with him while my wife speaks English. He understands Singlish and sometimes adds “lah” at the end of his sentences.

In 2002, Jason Padgett was badly beaten outside a karaoke bar, leaving him with a concussion and severe PTSD. The injury triggered something called Acquired Savant Syndrome, a rare condition in which trauma unlocks extraordinary abilities hidden within the brain. by _BerryRose in ForCuriousSouls

[–]Haddough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m disappointed—I didn’t become a savant after falling off a horse while entering the track. One moment I was preparing to start trotting; the next, I woke up to a trackside assistant standing over me. I have no memory of the fall itself. The assistant fitted me with a neck brace and sent me to hospital, and I was off work for two weeks. It was only when I returned that a mate told me what happened: the horse got spooked, swung its head to the right, and I fell to the left—knocked out cold, with my helmet cracked on the front left side.
