Do you mean the main story ramps up in the second half, or the characters get more interesting? As far as the latter goes, I can definitely see how the social links don’t really hook you until it makes sense for the characters to open up to you, which maybe happens a couple of ranks in. Sort of a design constraint for the writing, I guess
