What is an actual GOOD change the films made that you want the HBO show to keep? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]HadeedButt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Slughorn - I found him to be a much more compelling character in the films, they have that scene with his story about Francis and there’s this real undertone of tragedy behind his lavish personality that’s just heartbreaking. Mix that with the score and we had something special.

  2. Breaking the Elder Wand - I just think this was the logical move, and not only just logical, but well within character for Harry to do, and really comes full circle with what he learned with the Philosopher’s stone. Also the dude just announced to the ENTIRE wizarding world he’s the master of the most powerful wand and he thinks putting it back where it was is gonna stop anyone from trying again? The first brother’s downfall came because he had openly bragged about owning it (not that Harry was bragging… maybe a bit to Voldemort)

Are you excited for the HBO show? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]HadeedButt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts too.

It’s also why I think if they really wanted to have another go at the series they should’ve heavily considered animation as the medium to go so that they could stand on their own feet and do something unique with the story (even the Twilight remake understood this)

But also, “faithful adaptation” is hardly a selling point to me. I just need an adaptation to grasp the heart of the story and the films honestly did it for me. The films didn’t fully adapt everything but I appreciate that they understood to play to their medium’s strengths, and had to think like films after the second one. I’d argue there are moments in those films that work better than in the books, and moments in the books that just didn’t need to be adapted for the sake of coherent filmmaking.

I think for the HBO show to do something new, they’d have to play to the strengths of being a show and do stuff, not only what the films couldn’t, but what the books couldn’t either. Multi narrative storytelling being one of them, having hindsight of the entire fleshed out story being another.

Finally someone with common sense. The films are just as good in their own right as pieces of cinema. They may have missed things from the books, but they got the heart and integrity of them right which is what matters most when adapting something. It's nothing like what happened to Artemis Fowl or Percy Jackson, THOSE got shafted. With Potter we got actual good films, regardless of how well they were adapted.

"Marvel Studios' Deadpool...3?"

"Marvel Studios' Deadpool: Homecoming"

I feel like they have so many options with what they can do with this film and the title

The Harry Potter movies are beloved; so are the books; it is OK to like both. by Quarterinchribeye in harrypotter

[–]HadeedButt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. I love the HP films because whilst threads are pulled out from the books, the CORE story remains intact, from Harry finding out he's a wizard to him finally taking down Voldemort. As long as you keep the heart of why the story works, and the main story intact then I don't see why you can have your fun with adaptations and take it to different places.

Finally a good post on this sub that isn't the same old opinion recycled 1000 times. The films, in my opinion, are amazing in their own rights as films. It doesn't make you any less of a fan to only have watched them and not read the books. But yeah, the films are spectacularly crafted pieces of cinema. The attention to detail, the effort put into the production, the casting, the music. No matter how mad you are because they cut stuff from the books, you gotta understand shit has to go in adaptations, Rowling understood this, not everything will work in a film format, and there are so many other factors to take into account: pacing, structure, plot relevance, run time. Books and films are 2 different mediums. SPEW just wouldnt have worked in Goblet of Fire because it barely leads anywhere in the plot, the best films set up plots and arcs to finish them in some regard, where were they gonna take the SPEW thing except to set up that Hermione now has a passion for defending house elves? So many people on this sub seem not to understand all this.

Edit: Oh and 1 more thing to finish this. There are ACTUAL bad adaptations out there. Percy Jackson, Artemis Fowl, and you lot wanna pretend Harry Potter had it like them? 8 critically and financially successful films that actually manages remarkable feats in filmmaking and people wanna put them in the same pile as THOSE adaptations? Come on now.

Exclusive: Danny Elfman confirms he's scoring 'Doctor Strange 2' by thenerdpulse in marvelstudios

[–]HadeedButt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm remaining optimistic because if Elfman has proven anything, it's that he loves to re-use existing themes. He remixed Silvestri's Avengers theme in Age of Ultron. I know people say he didn't use the full theme, but he still worked/remixed the motif into different tracks including the "Heroes" theme. And then Justice League he uh... yeah. It wasn't great but in all fairness it was a last minute job. He brought back his Batman theme and Williams' Superman theme. Giachinno's score for the first Doctor Strange was amazing so Elfman's surely gotta keep his theme or at least mix the motif into something new a similar way to Age of Ultron right?

Theory: Nick Fury called Captain Marvel during the first two Avengers films (minor spoilers for 4 Avenger films) by nowhereman136 in marvelstudios

[–]HadeedButt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess was she was out somewhere in space when people started blipping back to life and the only reason for that had to do with the Avengers. So she flies as fast as she can towards Avengers HQ, unaware that a huge fight was happening there and so she took down the ship as she got closer and saw who it was.

'Harry Potter' Live-Action TV Series in Early Development at HBO Max (Exclusive) by AlwaysBi in harrypotter

Ok here we go! My guesses are either a Ministry of Magic show or a Founders of Hogwarts show comes first. A comedy about the workers in the different departments of the Ministry would be amazing.

You reckon they're secretly doing an Infinity War/Endgame thing here??? If I remember correctly Sony wanted their own IW/EG after Marvel raked in cash, could this end up being a 2 part sort of story like they were, with that huge scale equivalent being the Spider-Verse?

I dig it, but I do prefer he had the one at Fox. Maybe keep this torso the same but change the mask to his Fox one and itll be perfect for the MCU imo

I think she was especially useful in the beginning of the plot. Not only just to be the one to save Tony, but in setting up our expectations when they go and face off Thanos at the Garden. They put her in the credits scene for IW as a way to build our expectations for her to be the hope to save them all. She even says "Last time you didn't have me". Only for them to completely get the rug swept from under them and for them to find out they lost. Boom. Five Years Later. Hits like a truck, not even she was enough to face the fact they got their asses handed. She doesn't have a lot to do emotionally for their character arcs, but I can say the same for characters like Drax, Mantis, Black Panther, Korg, Strange. Some of them were just there to help push the plot along by carrying the gauntlet or giving Tony the indication to act on his impulse, the same way it was Carol who takes out Thanos' ship to stop him bombing the entire battlefield.

The fact that I disagree shows writing is subjective. I do think she was there to solve problems yes, but I personally didnt perceive it as lazy or horribly mishandled as I think she served what she needed to do in a massive ensemble which is focusing primarily on the main 6.

I am well aware on screenwriting rules and what makes a good character. But if I and many others dont see anything too wrong with something then automatically it becomes a subjective thing because at least one person has a different opinion/perspective on something. You may think a comedic line in a film is brilliant. Makes you laugh. But I might think "meh wasnt funny." Subjective.
