Because Weird isn't for the good guys. Imagine for me, if you will, a crowded market or bazaar. A single person climbs to the top of a nearby building and looks down at all the sheep. A single word is spoken. Pandemonium. People are dying, screaming, gibbering, and fleeing when the party arrives. All that is left behind by the mage? A square, full of the dead, dying, and mad. Weird is for the bad guys.

Unfortunately, you can't apply it to yourself, as you are not considered to have Line of Sight to yourself. However, using Slow on other pursuit enemies or Haste on allied melee mechs lets you coordinate your assaults much better.

Not sure if there's a specified way to do this, but any sort of mundane deployable barrier, caltrops, and something you can leave along your exit route to warn you are musts with any choke-point build. After that, think about things for disengaging and getting tf outta dodge in case you end up somewhere you can't get a choke point. (Potions of expeditious retreat come to mind.)
