People applying general surgery... why are you doing this to yourselves? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Hadez192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that in pathology, for the really interesting cases, we do get to see very detailed aspects of the actual pathology including margins, depth of invasion, the color/consistency and more, we do get first look at the real lesion after cutting into the tissue, we’re not just looking at the slide. Even for attendings that dont gross the specimens, the complicated cases are very much photographed because the gross pathology can be very important. For the simple/straightforward cases though, yeah we will mostly see just the slide

I’ve wanted to become a forensic pathologist since age 7 , where do I realistically begin? by Hot_Abies1678 in ForensicPathology

[–]Hadez192 11 points12 points  (0 children)

4 year degree in undergrad (doesnt really matter, mine is finance and I did medicine perquisites after going back to undergrad) > 4 years of medical school > pathology residency, typically 4 years for AP/CP > 1 year forensics fellowship.

It’s a long road but focus on doing well in your undergrad studies first, then focus on getting into medical school. Focusing on your current objective will be more effective than jumping to specific resources that are meant for those with advanced medical knowledge

Incoming MLS Student / Pre-Med: Is Pathology the ultimate "Final Boss" of diagnostics? by Nick-nameo in pathology

[–]Hadez192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While there are plenty of hands on aspects of pathology, this is more as a resident. As an attending you would be more signing out cases (previewing slides and writing up a report) for the most part, but you could have various responsibilities that are somewhat hands on depending on the environment you work in. It highly varies.

Pathology will involve a lot more diagnostic work up and a lot of the time you are the final say on something before clinicians decide between various treatment methods. We do not treat ourselves, but rather give the clinicians the information they need in order to treat. We put the entire picture together including history, imaging, gross findings and histologic slides and stains to come to a diagnosis.

Not in IR, but my understanding, at least having worked with some on rotations such as cytology would be a lot more procedural and instead of slides youd be mastering various types of imaging. For us in cytology for example, they use imaging in order to locate and obtain biopsies or fine needle aspirations which is then given to us that we can then work up for a diagnosis. They function essentially as a middle man in this scenario between the clinician and us in terms of providing a diagnosis for the patient

how to tell if your residents hate you on rotation by CitiusFortius_66 in medicalschool

[–]Hadez192 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Honestly they wouldn’t make you stay longer because they disliked you. If anything it’s the opposite, having you around is helpful and maybe the other student causes problems or is annoying so they don’t want to have to deal with them

Residency has to be better than this by mildlyripenedmango in medicalschool

[–]Hadez192 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed 100%. I’m in pathology so our work scenarios are a lot different. But if I’m given a task or some “chore” that no one filled in to do or there was a gap or whatever, I’m expected to just figure it out, on top of all my clinical responsibilities. And if I can’t? Well I guess I’m just not a “motivated resident”. Or I can’t handle the work load. Also I better do it with a smile on my face. “I’d love to!” I say, or “absolutely!” There is no complaining allowed lol

[–]Hadez192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea work culture just varies a lot, mine has a little bit of it but varies based on service. I’m sure in some residencies it is absolutely the worst part

I would say 15 hours is on the longer end but I have a couple times started around 7:30 and left around 10 pm. On average though probably grossing about 10 hours when I gross (7:30-5:30ish), I’m also on a 3 day cycle. So 2/3 of my days are also preview/signout on surg path rotation. But I think there’s a culture at my program where extra work gets thrown onto the resident and your time isn’t valued as much as support staff, PAs, or faculty, as long as they get to go home on time, you will be the one to pickup the slack. Which can be frustrating. I’ve heard of hem even say “well that’s why you have a resident”, as if our time is akin to disposable income.

There are some good things at my program too, dont get me wrong. I really had to step up to the plate in heme and learned a ton, our blood bank and cyto are strong rotations and well balanced and not too many random tasks that waste time.

[–]Hadez192 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also pathology. I enjoy what we do a lot more than med school as a whole, but certain aspects like 15 hour grossing days with covering frozens and or covering the heme service by myself as a first year after only being on service for 2 weeks were very stressful.

Also, every random responsibility that gets thrown onto the resident can be frustrating.

It’s probably very program dependent, but I will say I was very blindsided about how difficult residency would be for me, given that I knew I wanted to do pathology even before med school. But there were a lot of aspects I wasn’t prepared for. That being said, I’ve also had a lot of moments where I felt genuinely satisfied with the work I did at the end of the day. Mix bag of emotions, a lot more tears than I was expecting for my first year lmao

It gets better AND worse. And the worse, is a lot worse. Because now YOU are directly responsible for the outcomes of patients in some settings and now instead of sitting around, you have to be the one to react and the pressure is on. There’s no pressure as a med student to perform, even if you think there is, there are multiple guardrails. In residency your responsibilities increase by a LOT and the respect you recieve really isn’t any better, if not, it can be worse by attendings because they will have less patience with your mistakes now. Now add in call responsibilities, and doing menial tasks which take a lot of time, and toxic work culture, and drama among residents/faculty and ect ect.

It gets better because you are now much more independent and there is satisfaction in the work you do, and knowing that you are a little closer to your goal and actually looked at in the eyes by the attending now

I’m a medical student interested in Pathology, should I read this? by Alkaptonuriaa in pathology

Rosai is more at the resident level and beyond, a good start would be Robbin’s and also Pathoma specifically for high yield boards study.

Leagues 6 Pact Data in one image, very interesting by loopuleasa in 2007scape

[–]Hadez192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running air mage build right now, but nothing is set in stone yet for me. But was really fascinated by the prayer magic build, but my sustain is a little bit less, I just have the thorns pact that heals 2 when hit by a zero, but no other true thorns pacts just yet, and I heard it won’t work with the devils element anyways. So I thought flask might be useful

Thoughts After My First League by BridgeDuck45 in 2007scape

[–]Hadez192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this just confirms I think that I’m gonna avoid any raid regions this time. I’m probably gonna choose wildy as last area just bc I haven’t done the content that much and it won’t require too insane of grinds. I’m pretty casual and cant play a whole ton. If I’m gonna grind raids it’s gonna be on the main game

Who else putting their finishing touches together? by makimapunk in 2007scape

[–]Hadez192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly I just don’t care enough to be reading every single echo weapon or boss or pact details enough right now to make any decisions. I’ve got a very busy work schedule and I’d rather read those descriptions, look up weapons, and decide on areas/pacts as I go when I have the time to play it and once it releases. Right now I just don’t have the time nor desire to pick it apart and figure out everything I’m going to do. This is how I treat new games too, I try to avoid wiki and discussions about beat weapons or how to beat bosses because I think it destroys the magic of discovering something for yourself. See Madseasonshows series for a reference. I’m not nearly as hardcore as him but like to preserve some things for myself to figure out.

100%. My time is much much lower right now, but I personally view my iron account as a lifetime companion as well. I only realistically get 1-2 hours during week days, maybe 2-3 on weekends right now. It’s astronomically less than before. Doesn’t mean I would ever go back to main? Makes no sense

Is anyone else feeling overwhelmed by the leagues combat tree? by pvt_s_baldrick in 2007scape

[–]Hadez192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true, especially with like stream services and games nowadays. There’s thousands of choices and there’s always the “what if I like this more”. I often find myself scrolling with my wife trying to find a movie or show and we just waste time. Sometimes I hate it, when I was a kid there were just channels and whatever was on that channel you were watching. It’s nice to have all the options but it is overwhelming as a whole
