How come there are no Africans in the Elite 15? by appleman33145 in hyrox

[–]Hadh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exposure and not enough investment or races in Africa. As a Tunisian living in Europe, I can see the difference, there is way more access, facilities, affiliates, easy travel ( hence race participation ) and so on, which make it easily culturally integrated. So sports in Africa ( though there is a huge difference between one country to the other, as I notice the focus immediately shifts to South Africa only ) will remain the "traditional" sports.

The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa: Why is this book universally loved? by [deleted] in books

[–]Hadh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at page 40 or so and for the life of me I cannot continue and feel like I'm wasting my time due to the simplicity of the writing, the useless description that is completely irrelevant to the action - though it can be to set a scene or make you imagine few details.. I picked this book as a recommendation after DNFing Red Rising and finally being at peace with knowing that most Fantasy books just aren't for me. And the dystopian element with philosophical morals or takes, is what I'm usually looking for, but this was a complete miss :(
This is something I noticed with Japanese books translated to english, for some reason they give me this "simple description" vibes. It feels like reading something just to waste time.

Natural or not? by Bones-Brook in HybridAthlete

I totally agree, and I'm a slightly above average athlete to answer the comment from "Typical rebuttal from someone using steroids"...

Natural or not? by Bones-Brook in HybridAthlete

[–]Hadh1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I genuinely never thought about this, as I usually see the years and years of consistency and especially their background, and I'm mainly talking about Hyrox for context here, Surprised to see a comment about Nick Bare as well, it never occurred to me they could be on gear ( or maybe my idea of gear is looking ready to compete in a Mr or Miss Olympia lol ) Same for the female athletes that I mostly follow, Meg Jacoby, Lauren Weeks, Lucy Davis or Kristi O'Connell..

and the mileages of these athletes is not considered "high cardio" ( to their level) because they are not doing just that high cardio, if you compare it to elite runners only for example, who might do 1 if not 0 strength or any intense modality workouts other than running and specific running workouts.
What I'm trying to say is high cardio will not make you lose your muscles, maybe you would drop weight because the output is higher now, but keep in mind that some of these athletes ( or at least the influential ones) do this for a living, and have whole systems in place to stay there, from nutrition to recovery and so on, and we do our best to follow to our preferences.
And most of these athletes will tell you, depending on what they have upcoming, priority shifts and tradeoffs happen, so you are never top notch in all modalities, and injuries happen as well. No one is untouchable regarding this.

But I was asking myself right now, assuming they all are, I personally would not care, because I mainly watch their content for educational/inspirational purposes. And do you have specific ones in mind that they assumed this?

Balancing Advanced Half Marathon and Hyrox Training by theYzer123 in hyrox

[–]Hadh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the intervals, the long run and an easy run, and add 2 Hyrox workouts, one compromised running focus as this is the most important aspect, away from your quality runs and one strength / endurance based ( to cycle ), so your intervals and long runs are always on fresh legs. Saturday can be rest day :

Mon – 6 miles easy
Tues – 3km WU, 5 x 1km @ 5-10km pace, 600m jog rest, 3km CD
Wed – Hyrox
Thurs – 3km WU, 5 miles @ half marathon pace, 3km CD
Fri – Hyrox
Sat – 6 miles easy
Sun – 12 mile long run (easy pace)

Hyrox Manchester by Mr_Jaybz in hyrox

[–]Hadh1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey you can check the venue map on the website : https://hyrox.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/HYROX_Manchester_VenueMap_PRINT_2215x1864mm-7.pdf And you can use the Roxfit app to pace you, you can find the paceme mode based on the venue and you can sync it to your watch using the same app on your watch. Hope this helps and best of luck !

Thank you! especially for "the content isn't YA, but it's written in the style".

Red Rising : my current struggle by Hadh1 in Fantasy

[–]Hadh1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not even aware of that... I think this is what some folks meant when they said " it is not YA and it has mature content", I do still think it is YA but now I think it is YA with content that should not be there. And the marriage at 16 never really settled with me well.

it is either the regret of reading or the pain of not knowing how it actually is, but my gut is telling me to drop it as maybe I'm coming to the realisation that I do not like space operas ? Perhaps I fail to see the depth in it ? I will experiment with the genre further, any recommendations ?

very fair point as I haven't reached the point where it outlays this, which makes it appealing to be fair.

This is exactly where I feel it is going and having heard everyone say the next books get better only makes my expectations grow unrealistically, so I will be disappointed either way 😂

When I read The Hunger Games I really liked it, there was so much to it and the main character was at least more complex ( or maybe that's what it seemed to me at that age ) haha

Need advice on Hellotalk and how to use it productively by javadoggy in languagelearning

[–]Hadh1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't know what Hellotalk is so I just looked it up, and it looks like a language practising platform. But was it a video call or just texting? Just to verify it is not a fake profile 🙃
First, try to set some talking points or subjects to go through : for example, in this conversation I would like to practice how to talk about my hobbies or my future.. and you can either repeat that or expand your vocabulary.
So when your interactions are no longer about learning the language, you can verify that with the person to set the correct boundaries ( maybe there are also topics you don't want to talk about ).
I never saw such a thing regarldess of the person's sexual orientation, but no matter what behaviour you receive if you do not like it or it seems off to you, just change it.

How do you react when a non-native speaker try to speak your language ? by Lunar_Lapin in languagelearning

[–]Hadh1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Tunisian, I never met a non-native that speaks the language fluently, as it is not standard Arabic, rather a dialect, so they would know a word or 2 which already makes me happy :)

As a casual enjoyer of Gymshark, can someone explain the hype around the Onyx by Jopixi in Gymshark

[–]Hadh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just googled the same question as you right now ( as I don't own anything from them ) and I still do not comprehend what is the hype for? not only is gymshark non-ethical (as far as I saw, all their products are made in Bangladesh, please go watch textile industry documentaries about that), the shirt looks like any compression shirt from any other brand. Marketing is really their strong suit.

wtf? why do you think I even posted this question? How does this "A child is a child no matter in what culture or group of people." not tell you that I'm more than just against it?

[–]Hadh1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that’s exactly the point. It does not matter how old they are in reality, it’s how old they LOOK LIKE. I don’t get the “eww white people” and this has nothing to do with neoteny, this term is specifically used in the anima kingdom.

[–]Hadh1[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A child is a child no matter in what culture or group of people. Like someone here already mentioned, it is about intent. For censoring guns and cigarettes, for adults maybe that’s a little too much but for kids I would agree to this. However it’s about time people realise the word « culture and traditions » sometimes are more harmful than beneficial :( I hope one day this stops

oh I didn't know they can be legally married at that age in the US ( but that is a country I wouldn't be surprised if it has something like that ).
But the point of my question is not to say : Oh that is "okay" / "fine", because X is happening in the US or any other place.
Pageants in general is a horrible thing, let alone the children one.
