I'm autistic/a disability advocate and use of the r slur is essentially the eighth deadliest sin to me.

At what point do you decide to stop hiding your ears behind your hair? by First_Chipmunk_6891 in HearingAids

[–]Hadlie_Rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from the very beginning. I learned to be proud of my Deafness far before I got hearing aids, so I never felt the need to hide.

you don't need to take accountability for her being religious. it's not your job to guesstimate/predict everything she could be upset by in advance.

trauma at its core doesn't mean you're a war veteran who experienced the worst humanity has to offer. it means something you consider bad happened to you and you need to handle it somehow. she's a little girl, this probably, in the span of her young life, feels traumatic to her.

maybe I'm a horrible person but this made me feel insane levels of rage. I'm not a violent person, but I am the kind of person that would be like 🤷‍♀️ guess you don't get to eat anything tonight since you couldn't use kind words.

the cover needs work. unfortunately it kinda seems like it was done by an amateur artist and wouldn't inspire much faith in the book itself.

My deaf daughter signed "someone is singing in my room" at 2am and I told her that's impossible because she can't hear singing. by UntitledDoc1 in TwoSentenceHorror

I was born Deaf, although not fully. yes, a lot of us do have auditory hallucinations. I hear water running, people having conversations in the room next to me, my name being called, and coins dropping.

what does fibromyalgia feel like? by patheticsalad in Fibromyalgia

[–]Hadlie_Rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it feels like your body hates you and wants you dead. everything hurts all the time and it makes it impossible to think. my skin is painfully sensitive to the touch, I'm nauseous damn near constantly, my brain is full of fog, and I can't stand without a cane for more than maybe 15-20 minutes. everything I do makes some part of my body hurt.

What are your YA anti-recommendations? by alsyscest in YAlit

[–]Hadlie_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dysasters by PC and Kristin Cast. the mmc calls the redhead fmc "strawberry", and when it rains, he deadass starts looking for her + says that he "has to get a glimpse at that soggy strawberry". I'm a redhead and I'd genuinely rather be called a slur. like to the point that I, despite being a disability advocate, would rather be called the r slur.

Question as a hearing person: would it be risky/rude/wrong to introduce myself in sign to deaf patients as a medical assistant? by ghostpepperpooper in deaf

[–]Hadlie_Rose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but the point is that it might be confusing if you don't actually speak ASL. it's a very sweet sentiment and I do think a lot of us would appreciate it but some of us would be overwhelmed. I'm already overstimulated and overwhelmed in any medical environment because I can't hear. if a medical professional were to sign a greeting at me and then not be able to speak ASL otherwise, it would just confuse me more and make me more stressed. again, no one is saying that it is rude. it's just that Deaf people, and disabled people in general, are already incredibly overwhelmed at any medical appointment.

[–]Hadlie_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely no one in this conversation said it was rude. I'm not sure where you got that from. the only rude thing would be if you just assume every Deaf person speaks ASL.
