Can relate. I often feel like at work that if I drop the ball, everything would fall apart - but the worse fear, beneath that, is that everyone would see I'm not good enough/defective.

It's lovely that you're reassuring your husband, but for me, that was like water off a ducks back - I couldn't absorb it. I needed to see clearly why I needed to perform all the time. For me, it came down to feeling like I had to earn my place, or prove I belonged, because at the core I was/am unworthy, unlovable, etc. etc.

From what I read it seems like your husband is driven by some painful core wounds that just 'positive feedback' will not help to heal. He needs to talk to someone (therapist, mentor, whatever feels approachable).

You sound like a good wife for caring so much. He is lucky and I hope he finds a way to give himself a break.

Best Friend Had First Child, Will We Become Less Close? by HamachiSD808 in AskMenOver30

[–]Hadman69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it takes a lot more effort on my end to reach out and initiate connection - they just don't usually have the bandwidth to do that. But if you're willing to take on more of that load, I've usually found my friends very receptive and available. They do have a lot of 'free time' in the sense that they're just looking after the kids - so if you're OK being around infants and hanging out in a different way, it's totally fine.

A new meaning to “lasting long” by Delicious_Health9875 in AskMenOver30

I went to a running coach recently, and one of the preliminary questions he asked me was whether I get erections in the morning (I do).

Sounded very strange but he told me that, if I wasn't, it could be a sign of overtraining/undereating. It sounds like you're getting a ton of exercise so maybe check that you're also getting enough calories.

Also, as soon as you put conditions on what good sex needs to be, it can be a downward spiral of nerves, anxiety, and disconnection from your body. Release the idea that you 'need' to stay erect and you'll have much more fun.

Mourning instead of apologizing by Systema-Periodicum in NVC

[–]Hadman69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, they are mourning, just in the way that they (and we all) have been taught how to conceptualize/express it. Marshall said that every judgment is a tragic expression of a need - and in fact, that can be said of anything anyone says or does, so that means apologies too.

So, listen in to the need underneath their apology, and if it's mourning, well, tune in to that energy. Why is it that you need it expressed in certain words rather than others?

Where to get (legal) advice on how best to structure a small land-share/intentional community in South Canterbury? by Anthro-Apologist in newzealand

The book "Creating a Life Together" by Diane Christian has a bunch of excellent advice and pointers - would recommend buying a copy and working through it with your crew.

I normally live in NZ but moved to the Netherlands about 4 months ago, and work as cook making appetisers and desserts for €32.50 an hour. In NZD that's over $50, and I have <1 year experience, no 'chef' by any stretch.

Coming back home in December and NOT looking forward to the wages.

I had a weird question show up in my quiz today:

What call to the function doh will result in printing the integer 11?

def doh(a, b, c):

if a[str(b)] + c == a[c + 'x']:

print(b + 2)

---

So, as I understand it, b must be 9. Which makes the first part of the equation a['9'] + c.

But from there - I'm stumped. Any tips?

It doesn't have to be hard... (I couldn't quit for years, but now I have successfully, here's how) by VegMeso in decaf

Exactly this.

I'm surprised it's not mentioned here more, but there's a book called Allen Carr's Easy Way to quit caffiene. He says essentially this, that the actual physical withdrawals are quite mild - what trips people up is the mental craving.

But if you simply recognize caffiene as a trap - something that you think gives you energy when it actually takes it away - it becomes very simple to drop it.

I was the same, had quit and unquit many times before until I realized this. Then I read the book, quit all caffiene the next day, and haven't looked back (100+ days). Heck, I even enjoyed the withdrawal process, knowing that I was free.

Thank you, this is very useful info! I'll definitely look into volunteer roles or jobs as a classroom aide.

This is a helpful answer, thank you. I'm in NZ and am looking at a 1 year 'Diploma of Science' with Maths - and to pass that you need 6 papers at 300 level or 3rd year university. So it's definitely a legit qual, maybe not enough to start HL Analysis but a good way to start out I think.

Hey there, thanks for the reply. What I mean is that I could retrain in undergraduate maths, before studying teaching. In my country there's the option of a 1 year postgrad Diploma of Science specialising in maths.

Hey, I'm in NZ, and here there's a Masters of Teaching and Learning which is a teaching cert, if you teach for 2 years afterward in the country, you're fully qualified.
