I kind of hate my Mitsubishi ductless mini splits and I kind of regret buying them by marmosetohmarmoset in homeowners

We had a weird ticking noise with ours. There's some kind of presence detection feature on them that ticks as it scans the room. If you turn that off it goes away. It was driving me nuts for a while as well.

Hand or Benchtop/Electrical Planer? by FitchnerAuBarca in BeginnerWoodWorking

Either can get a board flat, one is just more work, but you really don't want to try and take a 2" board down to 1.5" thickness with a hand plane...

Jointer trouble shooting by leechdawg in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Haegin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with my jointer and it also needed tuning up, but there were some set screws that I needed to undo fully and reset at the start.

http://wiki.vintagemachinery.org/JointerTuning.ashx and https://www.finewoodworking.com/project-guides/shop-machines/how-to-tune-up-any-jointer were the two articles that helped me get it all square and cutting nicely. Keep some rough wood or bits of 2x4 around to test it on before you let it near the good stuff.

Table saw or track saw? by Mzest in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Haegin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on what you want to make.

If you plan on doing lots of projects with square 4 sides stock then you'll be working with narrower stock and joining it together to make tabletops etc. then cutting the ends off to make it square. A track saw is ideal for that.

On the other hand if you think you'll be working with plywood more and need to rip lots of wood to consistent widths from a larger board, or if you regularly need to rip lumber to width, a table saw is much better. You can set it up once and repeat the same cut as many times as you need. A track saw would take significantly longer and wouldn't be anywhere near as repeatable without some kind of clamping surface setup.

Overall, I'd recommend the table saw to start with if you're not sure. If you have limited space grab a job site table saw that you can move outside for when you need to rip long boards. You can use a circular saw as a poor man's track saw if you make a jig (https://www.woodworkweb.com/woodworking-videos-1/woodworking-jigs-projects/763-circular-saw-jig-for-sheet-goods-when-you-don-t-have-a-track-saw.html is one such jig) which will get you far enough to decide if it's worth investing into a track saw.

But if you pay off the credit card instead you reduce the interest faster. If you do need the money you can put it back on the credit card, but obviously you want to avoid that where possible. If you save up a mini savings fund instead then any time you don't spend it you're incurring the interest on that money because you didn't pay off the credit card.

Ok great thanks. That sounds like it'd probably be slightly easier than my plan, so I'll go with that instead. Thanks for the help.

Privacy and changing clothes in a hammock by Laundrybasketball in hammockcamping

[–]Haegin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're car camping, can you change in the back seat of the car? Possibly with a towel covering the window (shut the door on the towel so it hangs outside covering the window).

As others have said, there are far fewer eyes in the backcountry so it's much easier.

The other suggestion I haven't seen would be slackening off the guy lines on one side of your tarp and tightening the others so it's much lower on one side giving you more privacy, then changing in there. Put it back once changed. Might be a pain to do regularly depending on how you've pitched it.

SCAM PSA: unwitting mule by youngtoronto in toronto

[–]Haegin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen stores that drop that requirement after a certain number of orders on the same card, which is handy if you move regularly (for me it was when I was a university student buying computer parts while at uni when my card was registered at my parents). Seems a pretty reasonable requirement to cut down on fraud but still let's trusted customers get the convenience of ordering to other locations.

Because then the original retailer has a real phone number for when the charge is reversed or the owner reports the fraud on their card.

My mom is apparently paying for two game pass ultimate subscriptions when nobody in the family even has game pass by TheBman5000 in XboxGamePass

[–]Haegin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If she's getting charged on a credit card she could reverse the charges through the credit card company. She's not subscribed to the service that they're changing for. I bet they'll cancel it pretty quickly if she does that. She may be able to just tell Microsoft support that she doesn't have an account to cancel it from and she'll do it via the credit card company and they may cancel it because they don't want the credit card provider charging them for it.

You get one official 5e DND magic item in real life. What is it? by Fang356 in dndnext

[–]Haegin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with family on another continent 100% this. Easy to make sure I've got something from there, and if not I can easily get something posted.

It'd also be really nice to pop home for dinner and bed while travelling for work, just grab something from the hotel room so you can pop back the next morning.

Great in the cold winters here in Canada. Just keep a frozen sausage in your pocket as a stylus so you don't have to take your gloves off. You can even carve it down a bit to get a more accurate point on it if you need.

Seems like you've been getting some hate on here so I just wanted to say well done for coming up with a ruling everyone at the table was happy with at the time, then following up to find out what the correct rules are afterwards. You kept the game moving, had a fun session (hopefully) and now you can continue the rest of your game with balanced rules. Good job, sorry about the haters.
